I'm trying to keep an open mind but I have to admit I'm struggling with the new art style. Don't get me wrong its very graphically impressive but its so detailed its borderline realistic which is a drastic change from the very stylised whimsical graphics of the previous games. I worry it may loose alot of the series trademark charm in the pursuit of AAA spectacle.

I hope they stay true to the nature of fable good evil and the little stuff like having a house family and letting you pick male or female character

Juuuust throwing an honest opinion in here. First of all, obviously the trailer has no gameplay. And the comedy is sort of British in the "UK Office" sense. But if I'm gonna judge how much this trailer invokes the same feelings as Fable - which is what a trailer for a game is supposed to do - then heres what I think. Theres more than one kind of British comedy. The Office was originally british, and this new fable trailer would be right at home with UK The Office fans. But UK The Office is COMPLETELY different from the style of humor Fable faithfully adapted, which was old timey British Monty Python/British Telecom sketch comedy. They're both awesome styles of comedy, but are fundamentally just so different that it doesnt really work. I'm a huge fable and Monty python fan and I want to see this style of humor truly refined to perfection by knowledgeable fans of all the old inspirations and source material like a Fable reboot really should be, and instead it seems like we're, not? I really want more and better versions of the games we got, but instead, just based on this trailer - it seems like we might be getting something different entirely. My issue and pretty much everyones issue is that the trailer just doesnt quite fit the same atmosphere as old Fable. A trailer is suppose to be a compact version of the experience and themes of the game. So of this really hyper modern video doc-mockumentary is what the game is supposed to be, I know I wont like it. Fable was well received because it was a charmingly tragic dark fantasy with extremely graphic low poly cartoon violence, Monty Python/British Telecom sketch comedy humor, a whimsical score by Danny Elfman (the guy who did the soundtrack for nightmare before christmas and most Tim Burton movies) and just a weeee 👌🏻 touch of "Evil god cosmic horror". I'm not a Fable purist btw, Fable 3 was a flop because it lacked most of these elements as well. The best part of the trailer is the little "Well done" from the random pheasant after the hero kicks the chicken. That part is SO Fable but the rest of it is ehh Also, this trailer seems like its trying way too hard to be a Team Fortress 2 "Meet the team" trailer, from the filmed interview style (that makes no sense because this is a high Fantasy game) right down to the character eating a sandwich while sitting down after winning the fight. (In team fortress 2 it was the red heavy eating a sandwich after his interview, then it was the red scout eating the blue heavies sandwich while sitting on top of blue heavy after beating him in a fight, where here it's the female character sitting on the giants glasses eating a sandwish after presumably beating him.)

I think this will be a good game, just not a good Fable game. Kinda like Fable 3. Still a good game but wasn’t really liked by the Fable community. Fable 2 was great and I know more of us loved that one and Fable (1) was truly a breathtaking masterpiece. What’s funny is they don’t need to make everything extremely shiny and polished, they need to return to Fable (1)‘s roots.

If developers want their players to look at a character for 40-50 hours, then they should at least try to make them look good. There's a reason we apply different cosmetics on our character in several games to make them look cool or try to make a good looking character in the character creator. Aesthetics mean a lot.

I was actually excited to play as a cool snarky farmer named Dave in a super high quality game, but then the trailer took its turn and the title card came up.

This video very perfectly encompasses all of my worries with the new installment. When they do finally bring us a trailer explaining the gameplay features, I'll definitely have my ears open for what they *DON'T* say rather than what they do say.

Given how modern video games haven't been going all to well with its huge empty open worlds, terrible humor, political issues bugs ect, there is an legitimate argument to be made in what tgus game is going to turn out. I don't know many games where we'd see gameplay over a year before launch. I generally think people are overreacting. Everyone complains, and rightly so, when games get pointless cgi trailers, but now that they replace those with minimal gameplay trailers everyone complains that they didn't show enough. Normally we wouldn't get any gameplay this early, before the tease and leaks I don't think many people were expecting to see it at all. The game might be awful, Microsoft track record and all, but it might also be great with playground at the helm. We simply don't know anything and everyone is wildly speculating.

Nothing is wrong with saying you love Fable 3. It was never a bad game, just an empty one. You can tell the difference by whether or not you wish there was more content. If you wished that the game was over sooner, that would mean it’s bad. Fable 3 ended way too soon.

Just hoping the game functions as it should on launch (or at least 60% functional) and that its a bit fun to play.

They show that they're committed to the true essence of fable, beyond the humour and music they are making sure to include things like balverines, bandits with quips, melee and magic combat (don't think i saw ranged represented but I'm sure it's in), they hint that the hero can be loved or hated by individuals with the lady going against the mood of the crowd and calling the hero a wanker. Fingers crossed for Hobbes closer to those in Fable 2, they had so much character. I'm more optimistic than I have been about this game now, which is why I'm so confused at the reaction it's received so far. Your concerns are very real though and i believe that comedy should remain uncensored, comedy should be provocative and make you think. My hopes for the character are not for a character creation, but for an expansive customisation mechanic through in game actions. Not just good or evil but fat or slim, muscular or skinny, hairstyles, clothing, make up, face paint, etc, similar to fable 2 but with more depth. Anyway, I'm excited still. My favourite part in the entire trailer was the guy with the wheelbarrow saying "yeah, well done" sarcastically after the hero kicks the chicken.

In all honesty, seeing that character, in that outfit, my mind immediately went to 'voiced by Eric Idle'.

I hope it stays true to what kind of game fable has been and why people love it. Nowadays it is so easy for games and movies to merely use an established franchise to push garbage on people.

I just really cannot get behind the new art style, the previous Fable games are timeless because of its cartoonish stylized aesthetic. I played Fable 2 some months back and it holds up perfectly. I also hope the humor isn't too bad, it is what ruined Borderlands and Saints Row for me.

what i liked about fable 3 was the realsm that was felt, like as time went on the "charm" faded from the world, which gave it a different type of charm. What im hoping for in the setting in the new one is the downfall of the guild, like yes lionhead gave us enough info on that already but theres still so much to do with that, and the part in the trailer where the villager is showing distaste for the hero could hint to that setting

As someone who played the trilogy as recently as 2yrs ago, I could care less how the game looks... I just wanna play a fantasy RPG riddled with British humour and folklore and kick some arse while doing it. I think this game will pleasantly surprise sceptics.

I remember when December 2017 playground games opened up their RPG division and started hiring RPG developers, i guessed right there and then that it would be fable and somehow 5.5 years later still little to no actual gameplay shown

Fable 2 is almost a perfect game but a major issue I have with not just that game but with all 3 games is why couldn’t we create our own character? It truly doesn’t change anything in the story if we were able to customize the way our character look. Its one of the biggest glaring issues looking back. I really hope Fable 4 rectifying this issue. Still gonna play tho

Sure i dont mind if the protagonist in this trailer is an odd looking one, its quite charming in its own goofy way, and i also have a colleague who looks like this, albeit she is between 40-50 and is through with 4 children. However, thats not a character i can bond with, and if thats the actual playable protagonsit of the title, then i am not interested.

I’m excited for this. I just recently have played the original and just started Fable 2. They are super old, with some gameplay that doesn’t hold up but very enjoyable. I’m looking forward to a revamped reimagining of the game. And this trailer looks beautiful.

Idk much about Fable tbh. I just like the vibe of the trailer gave off. I’ve been craving a classic medieval fairy tale fantasy game. A lot of medieval/fantasy media recently has just been trying too hard to be dark and gritty. I miss the vibrant colors, and stuff. As for the character, I prefer “ugly” main characters. it’s more relatable, like a run of the mill average person. Most people aren’t super attractive models.

Oof yeah didn't even think about the "modernized comedy" aspect. You want an example of how bad that is, check out the comedy of Saints Row 1 and 2 and compare it with the new one that flopped HARD. Once you make something like that safe, it loses its soul.

I’m really unsure about how the feel about this trailer. We can’t glean anything substantive in terms of story or gameplay, obviously, but at the very least we should be able to discern the tone of the game in comparison to the originals and I am just… not feeling it. I don’t know what it is but it feels like it’s too self-aware of it is and trying too hard to be sarcastic and charming while Fable was authentically charming. They talk about heroes and kick the chicken as member berries but it didn’t do much to draw me in as a lifelong fan of the series. (Also the focus on what I assume is one Jack and the Beanstalk inspired side quest is just… strange to me. I don’t get it nor did I find it that funny.) It’s entirely possible this will be a game that lives up to the hype and reputation once we see some substantive gameplay, I certainly hope it does. But as a first foot forward, I think this trailer was a giant misstep.

I'm glad to see someone present a logical argument on the current climate. In my opinion social media had caused more harm than good and we as a species have become fragile and get offended by pretty much everything. Try creating something these days. Summarizing, like you I am cautiously optimistic about this title.

Every screenshot I’ve seen of the trailers or announcements has had one very specific thing as the focus. This tells me where the studios priority is and I don’t believe it’s in the quality of the game or “giving fans what they love”. I am bummed because I absolutely love fable but modern game studios don’t know what they’re doing, or they do know what they’re doing and it isn’t trying to make the best game possible. Because of this I haven’t played ANY modern games outside of Nintendo products and I especially haven’t pre ordered a game since 2013. In fact, for the first time since the original Xbox, I don’t have an active Xbox live subscription (I do have an active sub for Nintendo). Any studio wants my money, or my time (since I can’t get that back) they have to earn it. I’ll wait a month or two and hear what everyone says, or doesn’t say before I buy it.

The ideal Fable reboot would basically be a simplified version of The Witcher 3's combat, with comparable level/world and quest design and the tone of a Mel Brooks movie. What it will probably be considering it's a AAA 1st Party title is another Sony-style "third person over the shoulder 'cinematic' Action RPG" with Sant's Row reboot "humor" Am I basing this off the trailers? Partially. But I'm also basing it off of pattern recognition from the past 10 years of AAA game design from companies not named From Software or Nintendo.

Weird take but I hope you get to jump climb, and explore more freely like in Breath of the Wild, Assassin creed, etc. I also hope they overhaul the combat giving you options be a stealth character, a brawler or a wizard And also alot of customization like in Hogwarts Legacy

Honestly I don't have a problems with heroines. In this case, it does bother me that the character they choose for the trailer looks... well normal. In the Fable universe heroes are suppose to be this superhuman, larger than life figures. Even the women, look at Hammer from Fable 2 and Inge from Fable Legends.

Fable/Fable the Lost Chapters will always be my favorite game. 2 was a disappointment and 3 was just a little better than 2. I’m not looking forward to this game. Haven’t been since it was announced and this new trailer just made me feel disappointed even more. But I do always give games the benefit of the doubt and do plan on playing it, I’m just not expecting it to “wow” me. I guess we’ll see.

Im really excited for Fable! Im glad its back and with a new take, i just really hope they show more of the game this year just to help to boost the hype and reduce the hate its getting. The game decription gives us a litte insight on what the game is about with the morality being back, it also maybe like shrek where some of fairytale stories are incorporated within albion! I want to be able to lose renown somehow, like over time or something. The worst thing about Fable 3 is that you can't really roleplay at the end, everyone knows you are the regent and treats you like it, why would I move into a house in Aurora when I'm the King of Albion? I hope Aurora comes back, and most importantly we NEED the lore of the old games to be relevant. There's a balverine in the trailer which is good, but I really hope we get at least some link to the old lore. Scythe would be my personal wish.

Q: Why does it matter what the characters look like? A; Would Lara Croft have been popular if she was made ugly? Would Kratos have been popular if he'd been made to look like Erkle? Just two examples out of the extensive list of characters in gaming. People play games to escape, to experience what isn't their life. No one wants to play a game where you go to WalMart, playing an ugly character surrounded by ugly people. We have real life for that. So yes, it matters. I've never understood how this is difficult to grasp.
