The great advantage of these short films can also be a disadvantage, especially if you're looking to have everything wrapped up and tied with a bow, maybe ready for the sequel. All of these films require more input from the viewer, more imagination. These films remind me so much of the science fiction that was being written in the 1960's and early 1970's. Those books were a challenge to read just as these films are a challenge to watch. Keep them coming!

I mean... it doesn't give you much. It delights your imagination as to what it could be with all these things but never has any real context, just some long drawn out point she talks to her dad and it gets on... And on... And on and on and on. I do like the acting, they made me feel immersed somehow when there was nothing to be immersed in. This does have the feel of a fully fleshed out series but 24 minutes didn't scratch the itch it created. It really did nothing for all the great stuff this actually had. I thoroughly enjoyed it but they opened way too many doors and then proceeded to slammed them in our faces just as we came close

I liked this little, subtle bit: He says to her daughter "You have changed so much." She says to her father "And you haven't changed at all." And he mentions drifting at 30,000 miles/second. That's about 16% of light speed. Even though it would be small, time dilation would have had an effect. I'm not sure if it was intentional by the writers as that dialog exchange could be taken in a more literal way but it offered a linguistic overlay for the nerds that noticed.

I will give it a "has potential" rating - the idea of FTL and crystals and persons capable of doing something with them is intriguing and they did a pretty good job of making things look alien. The characters were both annoying - doing stupid stuff inconsistent with the severity of their situation.

I don't get the people saying there's no plot and it leads nowhere and there's no context and blah blah I thought it was pretty engaging and if you have even the slightest bit of imagination it's extremely thought-provoking and enjoyable mysterious. It's a short film people. Don't expect the plot to be as vast as a full length feature film. Enjoy it for what it is.

All actors are, in essence, good liars (or storytellers if you don't lie that term),, and children that young usually haven't had enough experience in life to have developed the skills an adult or even a teen has.

Lying isn't the skill that's needed to act, it's the abilities to imagine, pretend and play. Kids have those skills. I've seem many kids take on difficult roles, years ahead of them and do them well.

This has a "teaser" quality to it. The acting, scripting, and cinematography are all more than competent, but there isn't enough connective tissue for it to constitute a story. Throughout I waited for some sort of indication -- or evocation -- of what David's family was fleeing, and why. As for the crystals, there was no indication of their importance beyond that the "Ministry" didn't want anyone to have one. Perhaps Darkwave will extend it with additional clips, which I'd very much like to see.

Excellent work! It was really an enjoyable short to watch. Of course the script leaves some things unresolved, and its a pity. Perhaps 2-3 more mins to explain the importance of the child, its power and what are those crystals all about would be necessary. Other than that brilliant work. Wish there was a second episode or something.

Adults can't do FTL, not organic enough, (Quantum Physics issue?) But, Organic kid can! What was the Dark Wave? Natural, man made, alien, or AI? Perhaps too much Tech messed up things. Now regular, organic kids are needed to break the grip of the 'Whatever' that is running things. So parents, kids, families can change everything, but 'In Change' thing doesn't want to lose power. So... Parents run to save their little family! Phoenix is re-birth from the ashes of destruction. Symbols of hope! This could truly be a world changing TV series! I'm a former Physics teacher, I would love to work on this!!! Am I close in my assessment?

I love how the dude has her wait at the truck while he searches the bunker real fast like. She waits a few minutes, has a talk with her kid then takes him to piss. She walks over to the bunker which is only about 25 yards away and when she gets there the guy is just staring at the junker door then sayz there has to be another way in just as he opens the door he's been staring at for 5 minutes. Forget continuing, we need to force the story forward. I understand shorts are tuff because of the restraints but idk?

Here is a spoilery honest review.. cinematography pretty good. Acting mostly really good.... mostly. Parents look NOTHING like the kid so that took me out of the story... it's like the directors were... well the kid has a unique look with his lips and curly hair. Most visual effects were good. The Bird ship or whatever it was was a cool concept but the 3D model they used for the last shot was terrible. No textures, no lighting, it looked like a 3D model you purchase on Turbo Squid for $30. The mom, best acting. Little hammy during the entire dad- daughter reunion piece. The dad pretty good. The fight between the half dead technician in the bunker was awful, AWFUL! pulling punches, terrible choreography... but the worst was the addition of the "slow motion" as he was electrocuted. *eye roll. The story was intriguing. Although... there wasn't a defined beginning-middle-end. Even short stories are supposed to have those. The beginning was fine, intriguing... kept me watching... the middle grew bland with the Father-Daughter speech and the Dad in the bunker looking for supplies... then the ending was awful and fell apart. I get there was some sort of "twist" with the Bird plane you thought was gonna be bad but then ended up good, but as an audience member I didn't care by that stage. Production value: 6/10 Acting 8/10 Production design 5/10 Visual Effects 7/10 Story... um, 7/10... started off good but fell flat.

chadiwack There wasn't a defined beginning-middle-end, in the short for a good reason, we are dropping into the middle of a day in the life of these people, a lot like changing channels during commercials and just catching the tail end of a show you never watched before. So we don't know what's going on, at least not until we tune in later or catch the reruns.

That was excellent. I wish this could be made into a TV series to help flesh out the background more and to see what happens next.

This is like reading a book that was missing the first two pages and everything after the middle of chapter one, ie: possible potential, but a nothing burger at the moment.

Great movie, short but leaves so much to the imagination and all good. Has potential to be a block buster. The phoenix aircraft coming in the end was superb.

"Dad" has been in dozens and dozens of movies from the fellow asking Luke Skywalker if he wanted a new droid for his X-wing to the Captain of the US Nuclear Submarine in the James Bond film. Guy has been everywhere in films of the 60-80s.

I presume FTL is Faster Than Light, I presume that The Ministry is a hackney religious sect endowed with delusions of statecraft, and I hope that the kid is supposed to die in the next frame. Not being in the car when they were about to scram is a hackneyed, cliche dramatic device that is just cheap. And he looked nothing like his parents ethnically or morphologically, apart from the usual limbs. I liked the plane. This wasted 20 minutes of my precious life.

Fatal flaw: Supposed to be smart, but standing around pulling his while the reactor is overloading and the bad guys are inbound. He straight up doesn't deserve to survive, let alone have a wife and kids. Someone that self-absorbed would get left behind as a living booby-trap by my survival party.

I agree. The dad makes sense the classic not-so-smart mistakes that his wife tells him not to. They would never survive long if that's their modus operandi. A little better writing fix this, but this is just a short showing proof of concept, a little more work in the editing room and writing table could fix this that make it more intelligent in a little smarter and fix some of the plot holes. Incredibly excellent work and proof of concept! What a pleasure it would be to work with this Talent Group!

Back story: Humankind discover mysterious crystals that enable FTL drives and they spread across the lightyears. Then the crystals start to fracture and fail, leaving colonies isolated by the vastyness of Space. Happens alot in SciFi books....

What's with all the picayune judgment. It's a short film. A very well crafted and produced one at that. They most likely noticed most if not all of the shortcomings and/or things mistakes. Costs money to fix things post production you know. I'm sure they will take more into consideration if they get the opportunity to expand it. Why not just enjoy it for what it is?

Saroya Fanniel umm.... so whats wrong with peoples constructive criticism or opinion of a movie they just watched. Oh let me guess.... everybody should lie and say good job atleast you tried. To me personally the movie made no sense. I have no idea what was even going on.
