That Sail boat could use 'electric' power too as a Back up and use Solar power to ensure that the batteries are always charge. Battery power to have more control over docking, times of no wind etc. Between Solar and Wind, you could have a zero emission option for 'long' range transportation over Water. The chances of 'no wind and no sunshine for an extensive period of time is extremely LOW. In no wind, you can use the Electric and as soon as there is enough wind, use the sails and recharge the batteries...

It was very good channel. BBC should start it again. In case, expenses are a problem then its frequency may be reduced but stopping it, is not correct decision.

The Lightyear two will have a shorter range and has a target price of €30,000 (26,000£). Because the car is so aerodynamic and lightweight, they can place a smaller battery than competitors. The battery is the biggest cost of a car, and I don't understand why there are so many big SUVs are being sold who require so much more electricity.

I remember seeing an elecric Mini at the 2006 British Motor Show that boasted hub motors (and some ridiculous 0-60 time), it never got anywhere like most things, but I always wondered if that motor set up was used, as makes sense for packaging (may have an effect on handling with unsprung weight), so nice to see it has been used in the solar car.

Bmw was showing promise 10 years ago with the i3 and up until recently completely dropped the ball on ev’s. The problem with hub motors is that they add a lot of unsprung weight and take a pounding because of it. They need to be build very strong which then adds even more weight. For the sake a driveshaft it’s not worth it. You might as well put a much lighter motor in middle and one reduction gear is cheap and reliable.

Because the show is absolute GARBAGE. This used to be a great show, with really good presenters. Then along came Spencer whatsit, and Thingy from the weather, and it all went downhill from there. Spencer talks to you like you're a 6-year-old child, and Weather Thingy.....errr.....I really don't know what she is there for. As for the rest of them, I see the BBC loves to tick boxes, and we have a guy with no arms or legs, and he's sent to do pieces on Football, or where you might need to hold things - a wine testing piece was one. Then we have Nick Nobody, a man that just doesn't seem to care what he's "Presenting" - and he's not funny, BBC. Seriously, what happened to Kate Russell, Richard Taylor, Dan Simmons, and LJ ? - At least few knew about the material they were presenting. This show needs to be retired, and fired into the Sun, where it shall forever remain.

Um facts in this video are very sketchy.. the solar challenge is in Australia.. The Sea of Solar.. Um er, co2 blurting manufacturers made the solar panels, co2 blurting trucks transported them to the port, and bugger me? Co2 blurting ships, tugs, and drilling rigs are required to install them.. and co2 blurting tugs are required to keep the panels clean.. Wash them to maintain efficiency.. what a wank..
