Part 2 of the sea-doo spx project. In this video I demonstrate how to remove the 657 / 650 rotax engine and also introduce my latest acquisition.

This was deffinitly someones race boat at one time. Bildge pump, pipe, carbs, sponsoons, seat are all aftermarket. BTW that seat is a hump seat. Very very rare seat. Dont get rid of that. It will fit your 94 xp. Youve got some good parts there!

The 93 XP was the. Hot rod. Of the industry back in its day your camera angles brought back. So many memories of working on that exact make and model One. Thing i used. A lot. For. All the tight spaces was a Stanley brand 1/4" ratchet set i bought ar Walmart It. Had. A small ratchet that still allowed tou to get enough leverage I also. Used a very large. Plastic zip tie to fish. Dropped tools from under the engine or ,many times would let them shake out on their own from riding them or. Bouncing on the trailer Going. Down the highway

Spx and xp are simmelar you can exchange parts! Had a couple of them in the past! Wonderfull machines, almost nostalgic!

Just purchased a 1994 SeaDoo GTX with a running 657cc. However, it was smoking bad and 1 of the 12 bolts on top was broken. Took compression reading cold 150 in front and 130 in back so began to disassemble the top end. Piston on pump side had nicks in the top where (my guess) part of the ring broken but the cylinders looked really good. I will purchase 2 new pistons (old ones are marked 100), ring set, piston pins, roller bearings and c-clips. I will have a machine shop fix the broken bolt and will re-hone the cylinders to produce a cross hatch. So far most of the items I have purchased are from SBT is that who you would recommend for the pistons, rings, pin, etc.

Love the vids! You're personality isn't boring and monotone like a lot of youtubers. What state are you in where you get all of these incredible deals?? It's crazy, down here in South Florida we get perfectly good jet skis (no motor but also not a single crack in the fiberglass) for free!! ppl literally throw them out. But dirtbikes on the other hand, BLOWN UP and ppl want hundreds for it..

All PWC's (Personal Water Craft's) Waverunner (Yamaha terminology) Jet Ski (Kawasaki terminology) all don't come with titles. These are all untitled vehicles in the US at least. They come with a "Certificate of Origin" which many people mistake as a title. To legally purchase and register a PWC, Waverunner, or Jet Ski...whatever you wanna call them is to have the original owner and buyer hand write or type a letter with HIN# (Hull Identification Number) and go to a notary public at any bank does it for free. Then go to your local DMV and get your new registration card and fancy state sticker. Now your registered and legal to use assuming you have a license to use it in tidal waters or a lake. Hope that helps :-)

stdavross666 Do you still run XP's I just bought a cherry low hour 657cc. Drove it yesterday. She goes real good. Fast for water. How reliable is this motor in general??

JAYMAG Brownstone Hey mate, yeah I still ride XP's and SPX's. All are 800 machines (or 787). I have been riding my 1996 XP800 hard for several years riding almost every weekend. I do however maintain my machines good. Rotax engines are bulletproof but electrics are there downfall. Keep them maintained as best you can. Use good oil with API-TC rating and check and clean after use. We only ride salt water here in australia so its very hard on the ski's. my 96 still on original motor. XP hull the best seadoo ever and great for wave jumping fun.

Jennies Garage at around 10:45 where you lost your allen wrench, they make long flexible aluminum tools with a magnet on the end for fishing out tools and bolts for those kinds of situations that I highly recommend I use them all the time.

For future reference u should be able to tilt the trailer backwards and shake it and if that doesn't work get a water hose tilt the trailer backwards and try to spray from the front of the motor underneath it

I had someone tell me a bike had about 15k miles less than what it had when i arrived. He listed it with 18K miles but when i showed up it had 38k miles and he said "oh sorry didnt realize that was the trip meter".... I rode it for 10 mins and walked away.

When you picked that engine, many lolz... Always have someone to hand it off to. Its not heavy, but very bulky.

Awesome work, I gave $100 for a 1988 gtx that I put a battery and solinold on and fired right up. I think I need to bypass the oil injection system and just run mix gas in the tank.... any thoughts on that or try to fix the mixer, also sputters if you don't nurse it up to full throttle, still a fun toy, my wife wanted a slower one, 1600cc kawasaki that has been programed and tuned was too much but these little things are small, light and fun and seem to go forever. Awesome video and love the information and hands on walk through

Another problem I ran into with my 95 xp is that the one way air valves ( one in the left side of the ski hull and the other in the area just below the latch cover] were clogged or not functioning and the gas tank would suck in and cause the ski to run for 200ft and then die. I could not figure out why that happened until I got home to drain the fuel before winter and air rushed in when I pulled the gas cap and I knew then it was not letting the gas tank breath. Cost me 12 bucks for upgraded one way valves and new hoses.

650 Seadoo Motors they made them possibly one to two years and then after that they went to the 7:20 and then the 787s and then 951

when i was in kawasaki training last year, my instructor would get sooo mad if you sat tools or bolts in the foot wells. i think he would have a heart attack if he saw what youre doing. lol. also just let it be known that most nuts and bolts are stainless in these things(kawis are at least) so dont drop any down there cus youre not getting them back without some bubble gum on a stick.

The bottom isn't that bad u can het a 2 part epoxy paint and fix that and u can replace the boards on the trailer and u can get a title it's old enough u shouldn't have any problems

any used jet ski will have scars on the hull , because people are lazy . instead of tying them up to a bouy and ancor in the lake shore , they always beach them

Just an fyi from a Jet-Ski &Seadoo owner: a “Jet-Ski” is a brand name from Kawasaki. “Seadoo” is made by Bombardier. “Wave Runner” is a Yamaha. All these water crafts are referred to as pwc’s (personal water crafts) What you have there is two “Seadoo’s” & not two “Jet-Ski’s.”

Most people refer to them as Jet-Ski's or just "ski's". Even dealership service departments call them ski's. Its common parlance. Like how all tissues are generally referred to as klenex.

Jeramy Downs I understand what you are saying like all copies are referred to as Xerox copies or all plastic bandages are generally referred to as Bandaids. But that is where the general public is incorrect. I hear service dealerships referring to them as pwc’s. I had a Jet Ski & Seadoo at the same time & called them those respectively. We’ll agree to disagree.

Andrew Mcphail we all know this. In the UK most of us call our vacuum cleaners, “the Hoover”. We all know that Hoover was a brand name of which many of us have never owned. I’ve noticed that some people have started calling their vacuums “the Dyson” but they’re probably just pretentious snobs. I had one of these Seadoo SPX 650s identical to this one and everyone I know just called it a “Jet Ski”. My RYA licence says “Personal Watercraft” on it but it’s a bit of a mouthful and not many people know what it means anyway. I've also found it not to be worth the cheaply laminated paper it’s written on as any numpty can hire or ride a jet ski anyway and if you try to explain to the jet ski rental guys on the beach that you have a jet ski licence they look at you like you have two heads and proceed to tell you how to press the start/stop button and how to pull the throttle lever to go.

so glad you made these videos, very helpful!! but my spline shaft or PTO output shaft what ever you wanna call it, isnt sliding off easy like yours is any suggestions?

+Tinder Boyz they can get pretty stuck. try some penetrating oil. Also check a parts diagram for your model to make sure there isn't a retainer clip or similar part holding things up. Good luck!

I have a rotax 717 cc out of a 96 spx thats seized and i got the whole engine apart except the pistons out of the cylinder wall. I have tried a whole can of pblaster and let it set for two weeks and it still wouldnt come unstuck. Its pretty unfortunate.

my seadoo sp 96 have a problem . any body can help me please: I have no seadoo service next to my place. off whater work perfect. but in wather even start. all ready change carb kit ,line fuel,check valve rotary,belt is ok,high and low is ok,fuse box brand new,please help me if you know the solution... tks

Typically when it will only start out of the water but not on the lake that's a sure sign of bad luck.

Right in the middle of rebuilding my 717 and i was having the same problem, well kinda, mine would run in the water but had no power at all, wouldn't even plane out, turned out to be the top end of the motor needing rebuilt, i done a compression test on mine and had 120psi on the rear cylinder and 55psi on the front, should be 150 in both. Its not bad to rebuild them , ill have about $260 in mine with machine work included in that.

Okay plain and simple the ski with no title very easy the ski that you have got that is busted up if you have a title for that one take the VIN number off and pop rivet it onto the ski with no title not a problem trust me no one's ever going to know and brother honestly when you're sitting there turning those Motors over with your spark plugs hanging out like that you're just asking the blow up trust me I've been doing it for 25 years working on jet skis and personal watercraft you're just waiting for an accident

James Bissey Extremly illegal and yes they can tell, the rivets will be different and pretty easy to tell when vin plates have been tampered. Also, hell be fine
