Hello again! Testing a slightly different setup this time ;-) And also to continue streaming for a bit since the first time it was quite short.
Now I'm improvising on the roland c30 digital harpsichord, usually in a baroque style but we may diverge as usual!
I have no connected mic for the moment because there's too much room noise (with pc fan etc..) but I'll be glad to answer any questions you may have, don't hesitate to ask!

That's really awesome! Always keep improvising and before you know it you'll improvise in your own style. It takes time, but the road is fun and full of musical discoveries :-)

When you play also in your other uploads I hear especially a lot of new work by Bach, I am enormously impressed with your Bach technique and style. You are a genius, I don't know who can beat you at this moment with your improvisations. I hope you will post many more baroque improvisations on youtube, I can't get enough of them.No idea why you still have so few views worldwide on youtube, you deserve so much more.

The spirit of Bach lives on! Amazingly creative. Much of this is also profoundly beautiful, filled with a heavenly grace. Pure genius. (Just need to lose the incongruous 666 (three Hebrew vavs) on the sweatshirt, and Bach would give it a thumbs-up too!)

I agree with you--Bach would most likely be very proud and impressed by Mr. Borogrove.

Many thanks for your very kind words :) And indeed the sweatshirt is not exactly in the congruent style ;) I had no idea of the ressemblance with the Hebrew vavs; Many thanks for pointing that out!

@The Great Meme Empire Do you mean with vertically scrolling bars for the midi input? I think I could actually do that, if it's helpful! I may try this now that I can get the midi data from my keyboard.. It won't work for the piano vids, but I can definitely try a few like that ;-) Ty for the suggestion

@@Borogrove would be really great if that's possible, improv + beautiful patterns emerging out of polyphony, would be so interesting to watch (even more interesting in your live setting)

Thanks so much for filming this. I'd love to be able to improvise on camera like you but my nerves would get in the way and I'd over-think everything. How do you DO this?? I'm impressed, mystified, and astounded by your talent and hard work.

A million thanks for your very kind words Mitch! And apologies for the late reply on my part 😬, Not overthinking is definitely an important part, as is quick decision making, because even though I make lots of mistakes and things I dislike when playing, the tempo is the most important thing and things must continue to get played in rhythm! 😬😉 That said, it’s like everything, if you do it enough there’s lots of little things that start falling in place making stuff you have to “think” about less and less. Like fingers learning patterns, the ear and hands getting a better connection, etc.. And to be fair I am super impressed by your talent, hard work and dedication for your written works! Thanks again, and may your fifths be perfect (but not too perfect, we need some dissonance too 😉)

Very nice. I´d say, play on a (non-digital) harpichord with professional videorecording, and you´ll get famous. You have undiscovered talent. I´d love to learn to improvise like this.

Many thanks for your very kind words! And yeah, I completely agree that playing on a real harpsichord would be better; I mainly record on the digital one because it's much easier to record the sound.... that said, a harpsichord is *much* easier (imo) to mic up than a piano for some reason so I may try to stream from a real harpsichord too :-) Many thanks for the feedback!

Oh you mean the hexagonal graph looking thing? That's usually called a "Tonnetz". The idea is that this shows the degrees of the scale (usually centered around C), arranged in such a way that "close" degrees musically end up close on the graph. The furthest two in the Tonnetz is the "most disonnant interval": The tritone. Then, you have a few interesting properties, for instance all triad chords (major minor third + perfect fifth) are equilateral triangles. If you add a seventh, it'll be out of the triangle :-) ..That way you can "read" some harmony in a visual way. but this was also a way to test a few things for me and have fun with shiny graphics haha ;-) I may do a video on such representations in the future though, since it's always interesting to have as many different viewpoints as possible..

i really like that visualizer starting at 27:45! what are you using for that?
@Borogrove
@Borogrove 2 жыл бұрын
That visualization (can be called a “Tonnetz”… “sound graph” let’s say as rough translation :) comes from the fantastic S. Malinowsky and his “Musanim” program. He has a great KZfaq channel with many visualizations of baroque pieces, which is a fantastic learning resource! In the future I may program my own version of such a visualization program and make it available to the community, but you can take a look at musanim here: www.musanim.com/Player/
