Thank you for another Amazing Reaction!!! I love it that you hear and see what the show is intending such as comments “They are intimidating” or “This is magical”❤️ just as with other art forms, we want anyone who views a show to feel something….it does not have to be the same feeling and everyone may interpret a show differently but getting people to feel abs open their minds to create a story of their own from what they see and hear is awesome. You made the comment that drill was your favorite part of the service. This is one of the main reasons why I wanted to introduce you to DCI because I knew of your background (which as always I appreciate your service) and I am so happy that you are commenting on discipline and practice and love what you do or why do it as all of those are fundamentals in the Drum Corp and Winter Guard activities 🙏😁

Spot on about the discipline of the performers. Everyone out there absolutely loves what they do and it's so wonderful seeing that passion come through in the performance. It brought me a lot of joy hearing you talk about how much you respect the activity. I hope you continue to get joy as you discover more about DCI

This is the year crown took that step to another level. They got 2nd with this show and the next year 2013 they won the world championship. Best hornline in DCI hands down.

I marched high school marching band and the stuff these guys do is fucking insane. Almost EVERY move in the show has at least someone sprinting for their dot. This show is definitely one of the hardest shows ever put on musically, and physically

I've followed DCI for over 20 years, and this show is without a doubt one of the toughest ones ever put on the field. I'm glad you are enjoying the shows, but I'm not sure what you would think about most of the more recent ones (~2016-present day)...there are some new trends in show design that I personally don't like. If you are interested in other shows, don't be afraid to check out the late 80s and 90s shows too. There are a ton of great shows out there, and if you need a better quality video of any show, I'll gladly upload it (if KZfaq lets me) or I'll send it to you if you want. Eventually, you should watch 1993 Star of Indiana, but probably not this early on. It was a different kind of show for its time, and I didn't like it at first, but now I love it. Check out some other corps before that. The 90's Madison Scouts shows have some great music (their 1995 show is my favorite, but 92, 96-99 are all great), the Cadets have some fast-paced drill and difficult shows (1992, 1993, 2000, 2009 are good choices), the Santa Clara Vanguard is a well-rounded corps with consistently good percussion and several championships (1989, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2018 are good years), the Bluecoats have surged in placements over the past decade or so, and are probably the leaders in the activity when it comes to use of electronics in music (2014/2015 highlight this pretty well), and the Blue Devils have more championships than any other corps, but some of their shows and design choices can be a bit controversial or weird, especially for new folks. They have 19 championships and their 2014 show was the highest scoring show ever at a 99.65. There are other corps and other great shows out there too, but these are some of the most well-known.

Glad to see someone new getting into dci! I was lucky enough to be marching a lower corps 2011-2013 so I got to see this exact performance live. The thing that the recordings just don't do justice to is how coordinated they had their percussionists. If you look, they have bass drums and timpani that all play together during the movement 3 climax. That took so much coordination, but the pure weight of the bass was amazing

So any time you watch Carolina Crown, they always have a formation that looks like a Crown at the end of their show. The men and women with the flags, rifles, and sabres are the Colorguard and are typically referred to as guard members. Or guard.

Bro, please check out a show. You will not regret it at all. Also the rehearsals are great too, you get to see the discipline during rehearsals which is amazing.

Here is an answer to a couple of your questions….1. The maximum number of members who are performing is 164 (Most of the World Class corps fill all those spots and then have alternates just in case). I am not positive if there is a minimum but there are Corps that are much smaller (I have seen as few as 40 or so members) and they compete against each other and have their own World Championship the day before World Class Quarterfinals. Some of the smaller corps will compete against the big corps to try and move forward and I can remember at least one time where the Open Class World Champion was so good that they actually knocked quite a few World Class Corps out of finals night and they pulled off the 12th spot in the World Championships. The three sections of a Drum Corp are Brass, Percussion (includes the pit ensemble in front) and of course Color Guard. Each corp can divide their 164 member however they feel works best for their program. Tomorrow you are starting in on the Winter Guard International seen with Pride of Cincinnati which as the name of the activity suggests, this is all Color Guard and the shows are created around a soundtrack which have typically been spliced together, sometimes with spoken words from movies are literature over the top. Color Guards spin Flags, Rifles and Sabres….(Aimachi is a guard from Japan that typically makes finals and they add baton). Hope that gets you started and I will be excited to hear your reaction on WGI tomorrow as I marched in Pride of Cincinnati and I do come from the Color Guard side of this activity🍻🙏❤️ Much love heading your way!

It is certainly a sport now. In the 90s when I marched it was not. It grew as a promotional theme in the latter 2000s.

So to answer to maximum, I am pretty sure at that time it was 150 performers, now I think it has gone up to 156, but I am unsure on that. The technical name for the people who spin are in guard and that can be anything from flags to the "weapons" as they are called which are the rifles and sabers. I love seeing the outside perspective as it is something that we do not see all that often and I am glad that you enjoyed it so much!

Ahhhh when he said something from 2015, he's definitely talking about Inferno that's only on Dailymotion. Hella unfortunate, it's forsure a top 3 show for me personally.

I don't know exactly what the step intervals are like in drum corps, but 6 to 5 (6 steps from one yard line to the next) is considered pretty normal. But in fast moving drills like this there are probably parts where some have less steps to cover those 5 yards. (I believe 4 to 5 is considered the max)

I was there. Four words: Carolina Crown Got Cheated!!!!!! I saw with my own eyes. And yes, I was in the buzzard roof!!!! But DCI took away the innovation points on this show. Blue Devils had this riskless, tight ass formations throughout. Crown had to sweat and run and run some more. Sorry, but this show really showed me the downfall of DCI. I feel bad for the kids. I was there once...
