First rule of returning home with anyone other than your crew, always rig a failsafe on the ships reactor that can be triggered by you remotely. I call it the "Condom Approach" it's better to have it & not need it, than to need it & not have it. Never give total control over to an unknown factor.

@@juliansearcie1758 Would the "duplicates" have recognized the uniquely human ability to destroy itself to save another life or lives? Other than mothers defending their young I don't know of any creature knowingly, rationally sacrificing itself for the good of the group. If you do, please share the info...

@@patmickler1352 That's true. Would a dog sacrifice itself for the "pack" if the pack was composed of people the dog hadn't yet bonded with? Sacrifice of the self for the survival of the group requires abstract thinking, and I'm not sure most dogs are capable of that. (Many humans aren't capable of it, either.) I don't know enough about the mind of the dog to speak with confidence about what they would or wouldn't do in an unusual situation. Any suggestions for sources on the topic? I know military dogs might, but household pets?

A ship does not need to be "sleek" Space has no atmosphere, so their is no drag on an objects shape. In fact, a sphere or cube, is an optimal shape for a space vehicle.
