I came up with this idea shortly after the FWD cars came out. I designed these to fit the VW Rabbits/Jettas & Audis. Works great. Went thru a patent search but didn't follow thru on the patent.

This is just something I do for maximum safety. I notice that the chuck key is sometimes left alone in the chuck. Perhaps for just a short time. But still, there is risk from some distraction or something and the machine gets turned on with the key still in the chuck. (This is why so many chuck keys now come with an annoying spring scheme to eject them.) What I have done from the very beginning of using lathes (over 60 years ago) is to NEVER remove my hand from a chuck key if it is still in the chuck.
