I'm a mma fighter in New England and I was already super healthy and fit compared to the average person but when I started doing things you recommended I realized I was carrying around like 5-10 lbs of extra weight via inflammation. Once I started adding more fats and fiber (via avocados, seeds, etc) and eliminating bad carbs (bread etc) I literally dropped an entire weightclass. Now instead of walking around at 160ish and cutting to 145 i walk around at 150ish and can cut down to 135 and have way less "FLC" when doing it.

My daughter had me listen to some podcasts by Oprah Winfrey. When my daughter asked how I like them, I said, "I wish Oprah wouldn't interrupt so much." My daughter explained to me that it is a discussion--not an interview. I think everyone can learn from that as we listen to Dr Hyman's Podcasts. I feel he adds to what the guest is saying. In this discussion she also interrupted him a few times to "add" to what he was saying. There was never a time that the idea of the guest's thoughts were eliminated.

In a REAL discussion you woundt even register something as interuption. Thats coz what we sense as interuption are the bumps and cracks in the flow of the converastion. Thats when its obvs that both sides are heard and understood and had the time and the respect of others to share their thoughts and ideas fully. I think your daughter have too much respect to Oprah and thus think/feel she have more right to talk. Specialy on her own podcast. But this is not how discussion between equals work.

Great episode, I am trying to heal my brain from a concussion. 3 1/2 years with drs only amounted to countless meds & being told I was depressed. Over 20 years I was primarily vegetarian with small amounts of fish & chicken. When I had bad reactions to the medication I was told to eat more oatmeal, fruits & veggies so I tried the vegan diet for 30 days. It didn’t go well at all, I ended up trying keto which worked well initially. I kept researching and heard about carnivore diet which scared me as I always heard red meat & saturated fats were the worst for you & I always listened. I felt I had nothing to lose and tried carnivore for 30 days. It’s been 4 1/2 mos and I feel better physically than I really ever remember which includes dental improvements! Best of all my brain has calmed down, there’s a mental clarity I haven’t experienced since 2016. I tried adding a few veggies (2 pieces of lettuce) and was bloated for 1/2 the day. Always hearing how necessary fruits/veggies are what does someone like me do when only meat is working. I don’t want to miss key nutrients.

Dear Dr. Hyman, your podcast is very interesting and you invite fantastic people. But either you have to stop doing these interviews -- or you have to learn not only how to conduct an interview, but the basic rules of dialog s' behavior and simple politeness! It is such a shame that you DO NOT LET TALK to your wonderful guests! You interrupt constantly; out of all the time (49 minutes) you are talking 4/5 of it! Your jokes are heavy and not funny at all. Why do you invite these people, if you do not respect then and , of course, know everything better! You said that you do this because you LOVE doing this... NO! It looks like you love only YOURSELF and use this podcast just to PROMOTE yourself and your books.

Addicted to dairy - yes!!! I have experienced that first hand. It was not hard for me to overcome, it he probably developed from drinking my coffee with milk in it several times a day. When I tried to cut back on coffee I suddenly realised that I was actually craving the milk and not the coffee. Cheese, cream, butter, anything! I still live those products but I don't incorporate them in my diet on a daily basis anymore and for me that works well. However just the idea of going to my doctor saying "I am addicted to dairy" is unthinkable, because he would 100% not take me seriously. I had to do my own research, and it makes a lot of sense... you'd want a baby to really crave that milk. So our bodies are just doing what they are designed to do.

My objective to this discussion - as with over 95% of discussions about food and health - is the distinction between organic and naturally raised foods versus ALL of the rest. For example, I will never drink commercial milk, dairy or eggs because it is likely that they have been fed GMO foods and/or exposed to chemicals. People have been drinking milk, dairy and eggs for thousands of years but "modern foods" with chemicals, GMO, etc. is only in the last 100 years roughly. So this isn't a scientific discussion. In the early 20th century a raw, unpasteurized milk protocol was used to treat patients with certain conditions. Today a strict milk diet would likely kill me over not to long of a period of time. In the 1970's I met a man who said he was a peanut farmer. I happened to be eating peanuts at the time and I offered some to him. He declined and said "I don't eat peanuts". Surprised I asked him why. He said the commercial peanuts, as a plant, as so hybridized that they required lots of chemicals to survive. He didn't want to consume the "weak" peanut or the chemicals. And that was in 1976. Imagine today......

Question for Dr. Hyman--I have a digestive issue involving motility due to poor gastric accommodation and hypersensitivity to stretch. I experience chronic abdominal pain. My question--is there a treatment plan for this type of condition?

Hi, have you ever come across a latex fruit syndrom intolerance? I have a mild latex allergy and had problem with certain foods which otherwise are very healthy(kiwi, chestnuts, aloe Vera, coconut) I never had problem with these in the past, when my gut was fine. I wonder if anyone else experienced a reaction to these foods as I think it's quite unusual...?

Here are two questions. (1)Is your program covered by insurance? If not, why not? (2) If gluten is hurting just about everyone over time, why can we find gluten-free products in so small an area of the supermarket?

I notice he, Dr. Hyman, never owns it in the comments, to do better in these interviews. These guests hold a gold mine of information and are. continuously interrupted by the doctor with useless jokes, puns and diatribes, If he treats his personal guests like that, I would up and leave, These talks are about plugging his wellness center. The design of these talks are about better nutritional education and Dr. Hyman reminds me of the the YT advertisement. Unwanted and unwarranted.

@@Colorsalabama I have no experience with probiotics, but I couldn't afford them. A cheaper alternative is to make your own sauerkraut and kimchi (you do this by slicing up cabbage and massaging it with a tablespoon of salt, and leaving it out for a good day. Bought wont do as it will not be live.)
@leavesofchange

My general advice to heal a leaky gut is eat no dairy as it is a gut irritant and inhibits absorption. Then drink bone broth - let's say a cup everyday or every other day to start with. Also eat liver once a week.

it would depend upon how healed your gut is, & whether you are intolerant only to the modern GMO gluten. Unfortunately, I am unwilling to ruin a vacation/travel with "testing" reintroducing...it would be safer to order an ancient grain source from where you plan to visit & trial it at home.

What about the MRT test? It tests for white cells, the release of cytokines, histamine, leukotrienes, prostaglandins, etc., from neutrophils, monocytes, eosinophils and lymphocytes. Is this the most effective testing method? ALSO I think it should be called a REPLACEMENT diet...I agree elimination is off putting.

Nice good info. Have no IgE allergies !, very few low IgG . Have read of alcat and some new lab that sounds sim to alcat as measures inflammation (?histamine,...) to foods and even a saliva hair one. Curious if useful. Do wonder about IgA, IgM and mostly S IgA (measured low on a saliva lab ?? Called a lab and they said should measure the individual IgG1-4 as each has a diff job !! Have tried SCD to heal digestion and is involved but was quite helpful.

I can't really attribute great microbiome diversity of indigenous communities to the variety of available foods, what about hundreds of years ago - I'm sure it was mostly meat and/or some local produce? We have so many vegetables and fruits available in our supermarkets from all around the world these days - i don't think people ever had such a variety of foods available to them. I think a much bigger factor is the depleted soil, chemical fertilizers, pesticides, antibiotics and pills that we are consuming daily - those are killing our microbiome, not the variety of foods that we are consuming.
