I would like to also let you know that when my husband was being seen by a VA doctor he was prescribed with some medicines that we had questions about. VA has what they call medicine managers.(At least the 1 we go to) The one that we were assigned to said that it was a medicine they gave to everybody over a certain age. Yet we were concerned due to the fact all the triglycerides came back perfect. In turn they looked up at the ceiling and they mumbled, "I'm not supposed to say this." You don't have to take it and do your best to find herbal remedies. In turn they told us that while in school to become a pharmacist, they minored, in homeopathic medicines .👍

It's ALL I'm interested in lately, my husband thinks I'm nuts 😂 He's not into all this, but It's my new hobby and I wish I can make a career out of it! It's so interesting & fun! If I can help heal myself or a family member AND avoid pharmaceuticals (which I no longer trust, which is whole other thing I've learned which brought me to herbal healing🙄) it makes me happy! Just found this this morning. Wish I had found you sooner. I have always been interested in herbalism of one sort or another. This past spring is when it hit me that I needed to really learn more about it. I by sheer chance found a patch of stinging nettle. When I attempted to pull it up with my bare hands that's when I found out what I had in my yard. This is what convinced me of the fact that I needed to do something. I have bad arthritis in one of my hands. Would stay stiff for days where I could barely move my fingers. For the next 24 hours I had free mobility of my entire hand.🙃 so in turn I started researching about stinging nettle(1st made nettle salve)This is what got me started in learning as much as I can. Like you said start with the bare necessities and work your way up as money comes in to add a little something more. Thank you for all that you do for the community.

Prayerfully you have started your journey in herbalism. You'll be really amazed at the things you'll learn. As I have learned that what works for one person doesn't always work for another so you may have to try a few different methods. If you start making herbal teas you will have to work with those as to your personal taste because some herbs have a stronger taste than others and you may not like it so you'll want to use less. To me herbalism is a fantastic way of finding ways to self heal and stay healthy. I love Amy's apothecary cabinet. At the moment mine is stuck in a closed pantry. Enjoy your journey

I just found your channel yesterday, enjoyed my first video and will watch more. It all seems wonderful but overwhelming. Maybe it is my age I am 65, and I think that would take so much learning, am I too old to learn all this stuff. But there is something in side of me that says natural is the way to go and get off meds for depression and anxiety and all the meds my husband is on for diabetes and a couple of heart attacks. But of course I do not want to make mistakes in this, I will continue to check out your video;a and if there is a good place to start for our health issues to learn if you could point me to it that would be wonderful. Again thank you, I am glad I have found your channel.

Marsha it's never too late. I have always had an interest in herbalism. But like you I thought do the age and other things in my life that it was too late to learn. (I'm a slow learner. Something clicks in this. Maybe it has something to the way that the herbalist who are wanting to help us learn, TEACH) I wish I had started sooner. I'm fairly new to this but I'll tell you there's a lot to learn but I'm enjoying it and it will keep you on your toes mindwise. I'm in agreement with her if you can do it the way she says that is the best way start small.

@ Marsha Dufresne At 69 with time free to learn, I'm actually finding "old" is better for all this research. Herbs, growing & preserving food, solar energy, all the DIY people are so generous with on KZfaq. It IS a lot to take in! I keep separate notebooks handy - health, growing, energy and try a new thing maybe twice a week. Heart issues -- been there! First my husband lived 23 years till 2014 after serious h.a. -- I learned to replicate what he liked to eat in a heart healthful version. But after 2014 I let influences get me eating the wrong stuff. Jan. 2019 I had a nearly blocked artery, "inverted t" on ECG, & resolved it 100% DIY. No meds, said nothing to doctor (the ECG was while applying to be a lab rat for a drug testing study). Soluble fiber to clear vessels - oatmeal, barley, pectin (in apple skin), etc., Little processed food, just lost interest in chips, ice cream, beef/pork. After 3 mos. a routine check-up, doctor smiling, "All your numbers are better!" Dec. 2020 ECG good. Found out studies show 80% or more of heart mortality from "lifestyle", mostly what we eat. The processed & fast foods industry uses us for profit, then health care industry makes money later off the results! So I've been there. Older than you, I'm plowing through info + succeeding, So you can see it's both worth doing & possible. A woman older than you, alone & little money is (slowly & imperfectly) getting results in some areas.

Thanks for being clear and basic. I have been so frustrated with finding herbs in south Texas and I've bought books that proclaim to be simple. When I get into the books, it's Not simple. Every tea, tincture or whatever calls for 5-25 exotic herbs that I haven't even heard of, but that grow on the other side of the world! You did a simple honey and garlic mix that I can do too! I've got honey and I have garlic! I'm not fancy. I don't think the pioneer women were fancy, but they could do this! THANK YOU ‼️

Could you give a tour of your basement set up? What kind of alcohol do you use as a base for your tinctures? What strength? If you had to suggest for 4 or 5 herbs to start with what would you recommend?

Amy my husband and I attended the very first homesteaders of America conference. We were blown Away by the classes the speakers and all the wonderful people that attended. Up from that time on my husband and I both were especially interested in all the knowledge that we glean from it. I've been watching ever since. I know I've said this before but thank you for who you are and what you stand for.

Once again you come through with amazement! I love your humbleness and your vast knowledge. Thank you! I have a few questions as they have come up in watching your videos. There are 8, I dont want to monopolize your time so if this is something you cover in your book please let me know so I can look it up later. I did purchase your book but...its in storage now as I am moving soon. Thanks so much for your time I really appreciate it. 1. Is there a way to make tinctures kid friendly? 2. When making the tinctures with 1 oz of herb to 5 oz of vodka I did notice that the herbs were not covered fully. Do I simply just add more vodka? 3. I would like to make single-use tinctures and then combine them later. when needed. What is the best way to approach this? 4. Can I combine both fresh and dry herbs together when making tinctures? 5. You said that I can use olive, cocnut, and almond oils for a simple topical ointment. Super, but...how long does it stay in the oil to infuse? 6. You said for a cough syrup I can use Just water sugar, honey and herbs. What would be the length of the infusion and dosage? This one sounds great for kids. 7. How do you feel about Wine and honey used as an infuser for a tincture. 8. When combining herbs to make a tincture such as pain reliever, happy heart or happy brain how many different combos of herbs is best?

Love that you are not perfectly organized. It shows us all that perfection is not critical. I am obsessed with organization but still go from order to chaos when I am working on multiple projects. QUESTION: Does Black Cherry bark have similar properties as Wild Cherry bark? Thank you for sharing so much information, you are a God send. God Bless and enjoy your little ones.

You could start by purchasing items that you would need now. Then when you get closer to where you have the time to make you will have your supplies on hand. The items that would spoil or go bad you buy at the last moment, IE: oils

Most herbalist will store them in glass jars. It will help keep them fresh and keep unwanted Critters away. The ones that she had in the pouches were probably some that she had recently bought.

This is my first year growing my own herbs for medicine. I plan on growing: echinacea, marshmallow, St John's wort and a few others. How many of each should I grow?

Noone, when I planted my echinacea I had five or six plants starting off. Once you get the hang of it then you can add more if that's what you need. In fact I need more Echinacea and marshmallow.
