If you have ever had a lemur walk right up and start going through your backpack and swipe a granola bar, you will never forget the experience.

Lucky you. They are like Spider Monkees in that way. A Spider Monkey rifled through my duffel bag in a restaurant in Cancun taking out my 35mm SLR camera 📷 and then he opened a tube of suntan lotion and started licking it. When I tried to take it away he bared those nasty little teeth at me. One wouldn’t get off of me too. They and Lemurs are so nimble and fast that they’re excellent thieves. Good luck catching them. I want to go to Madagascar just to see Lemurs.

I’m wondering why the stink “weapon” easily repelled them. What is the effect and do opponents ever stink back? The first lemur that was closest to him looked bigger than Victor but he ran off. I gather, as with skunks spraying in defense, he doesn’t want that stuff on him.

I am a primate zookeeper and I think that plays a part! They don’t want the smell ok them and to get mistaken for a rival lemur!

@@LKauf279 I probably should have looked it up before asking so I read some things and learned a couple of words. I was wondering what he was doing with his tail and didn’t know he was rubbing it on his antibrachial glands, his wrists and for arms, to rub on the scent. Then they flick their tail at the raiders. As you said, they probably don’t want to get near it and if they started roughing and tumbling again that might happen, and then what will the group do? Their sense of smell is so important. Would they oust him? This issue happened with my indoor cats. One got loose outside, was gone for a day and picked up foreign scents and when he came back my other cat kept hissing and growling at him and previously they slept together. It took me three weeks to keep rubbing a t-shirt and brushing the hissing one, then use those on the other one (who had to be washed and sequestered) all the normal scents mixed up. It was sad to see-it’s like he didn’t know Monkey and the scent was more important than visually recognizing him. They call it non-recognition something. Same with rats. Researchers took a rat from its group, thoroughly washed it, put it back and the group killed him. So, I’m wondering if this is a problem with primates like chimpanzees and gorillas. Researchers work with chimps all the time so does a human scent matter? That’s interesting you work with primates though I wouldn’t hold any monkey again unless it’s tiny. I don’t think people should have primates as pets; a woman in my state had a pet chimp and when another woman came to the house it attacked her biting her face which is now not like her face before it. What kind of primates do you work with? Have you ever had to deal with an angry one? Also, I read that with Ring-Tailed lemurs the female is responsible for defending the territory which seems counterintuitive because in the video she had her baby on her back. Then she backed off and Victor didn’t like that the intruders were acting like it was their fence. The toddler needs to learn all this but I’d think she would keep a distance. I also didn’t realize there are quite a few other kinds of lemurs and once in time they (some) were as big as gorillas. It didn’t explain how or why they evolved to be smaller. Ring-tailed lemurs are apparently endangered and even poached. 🤬

Their gangs are matriarchies, oddly enough, the males have lower positions in the hierarchy but are expected to do much of the defence of their turf. Victor rose to the challenge like a boss but his gang is led by female.

Victor whipped whole troop while Gus hopes he doesn't have to fight. If one can beat the entire clan then why doesn't the Museum gang just take over everything and oust the Kokolongo gang (sorry to lazy to rewatch this boring video to get the right name).

Okay at the end you say "this time the Raiders retreat", but didn't they already retreat? Either you do not know names, or you are adding extra fake drama; either one makes this a fail. Plus how much content out of these few hours are you going to try to make. Geez, I've seen these same clips with different storyline so many times my brain is starting to hurt.
