Please don't apologize for 'getting in the way of the camera.' We are all aware that you are working and in periods of excitement or passion you need to do what you need to do! You're always careful to back away and explain properly, and for that I thank you! You've taught me soooooo much! I'm looking forward to see what you do with foliage and flowers.

You never stop surprising me. At first I was shocked when you started painting over the "tree wall" on the left because I actually liked the painting the way it was. Then, as your work progressed, it seemed to me as if a window had been opened wide and fresh air was pouring in. My eyes wandered to the horizon and my heart started to fly across the meadows. Your decision was absolutely right, it made a good picture even better. Thank you for your lessons, I'm learning so much!

I’m new to your channel, Mr. Davies. In watching this particular video, I’m coming away with a sense of confidence in my approach to my painting. It did me a world of good to observe you calmly wiping away and painting over a portion of the painting because you were dissatisfied with your original choice of composition. I needed to see that and to listen to you explain why you made the change. It made absolute sense to me. Thank you.

I am in tears watching your video. I jumped all in my livingroom and was yellling yes at the tv. Everything you did, wiping everything out , redoing , randomness!!!! I have been painting all my life and never had any lessons. I watch a lot of videos! Rules rules rules. I hate painting dark to light and and shapes. It’s not me! I’m a very random and all over the place! I cried watching you!!! Your brush kills me!!!😂 I am from Georgia in the United States! I plan on watching everything you have done!!!! I absolutely love your techniques!!!

So beautiful! And I loved it before you started. AND it did get even better. So dramtic and transcendent. AMAZED. What a gift to this housebound person who just loves to watch people do their thing. Genius on parade. Thank you so much. I would love to be your student. I am your student. We are renovating our house, but in a few months or so I will have my own studio workshop again and I will start painting again. You have so inspired me. Much love and appreciation.

I am so pleased to have found you! I ventured into painting in 2006, though I haven't created many pieces due to hardship. In 2006 I painted a few pieces in acrylic and had to stop. Later in 2016, I braved into painting with oil, and to my amusement, I loved it. I share your passion for painting the skies, and I also never took a class. Also, much like you, I like the pleasure of painting from my imagination. Anything else becomes work, but I refuse to let that be the case. Last, thanks for the pointers. I appreciate your quick lesson on perspective. You are a delight to watch. Thank you, thank you, thank you

These two tutorials have taught me so much Stuart, the main one is just adding shapes onto the canvas and thinking logically about the brush shapes and angles I want to use. I'd like to be able to paint some large detailed tree trunks and would be delighted if you could find time to do a tutorial on this and rocks too.. This is a glorious painting with wonderful colours and tones. 🌳🌾

It´s so incredible what you are doing, Stuart. I’d like to answer your question about what I find the hardest in painting. I’m pretty good at using my fantasy, so I often make a lot of mess in the first step. Here’s my headache 🤕, how to clean up the mess, how to turn things from chaos into some kind of order? I may miss a clear method to control my ideas? I have tried sometimes to start with more control in the work, but it tends to get stiff and “dead” in the end. - here comes my further comments on what you did in part one of your video: you wiped off some beautiful trees and made a landscape in theirs place just as beautiful. Hereby, You answered my question number two, can one do that? and yes, with success. I’m glad I don’t have to begin with a completely new canvas 🙂 In fact, most of my paintings throughout the years have been over painted several times. I’m not a professional painter (I’m a danish professional actress and play writer, director), but highly talented one. I wish to save money for one of your lessons. I’m your age and don’t travel without a purpose any longer, furthermore I don’t use FB 😀 Susanne CPH

To answer your question you posed of viewers, SKY is the element I find most difficult to paint. Coming from a generally flat landscape, our skies are the outstanding feature here. Boring? Perish the thought, Stuart! There is nothing remotely boring about watching you work your magic. Your landscapes are so evocative and peaceful to glimpse. Is all of the land in this painting “wild” and natural, or are there farm fields and vineyards off in the distance? I particularly like the way hedgerows crisscross the landscape. So distinctly French!

I watch ur instructional paintings over and over and I think I make more mud than distinctive shadows and highlights...as I watch u I try to anticipate ur moves and over-all effect and I’m pleasantly surprised with ur end -result. Ur trees look like they will jump off the page, and I never realized, the sky is never one color...it’s a myriad of colors at different times of day...I also have to place a light over my shoulder to dictate and remind me where my light source is at all times....I’m still experimenting with the amount of Lind seed oil addition to thin my paints...so today is another day...hope u are better after ur last allergy attack... thank u sir. Thoroughly enjoy ur work...

Mr. Davies thank you so much for filming your art and talking to us with instruction. I am a beginner artist that has fooled around thru the years in beginner style. But youtube with all these 1st class classes has really stepped up my game! Plus learning tricks with brushes, placement, perspective. SO MUCH FUN! This painting has my heart. I do not know what this kind of art is called, but it is my favorite. I inherited a bunch of framed prints from my grandparents, probably from the 20's or 30's and they all have these colors and style of painting. Just beautiful! Because of your use of large canvas/plywood, I have gessoed over a yard sale print I have, from the sears and roebuck days and I am ready! It's about 24x48. So excited! Thank you so much Stuart Davies! Love Chrissy from Vermont

I liked both versions of the first painting. Initially, for the mystery of where the paths would lead. The second for the depth and feeling of expanse. It's interesting how the some of the various aspects seem familiar, and others different. Locally, we have a lot of red shale, and the stream banks would be in values of red if I was painting from what I know.

I adore your painting style, I’d have conniptions if I took out half of my painting after I’d already painted it 😂. Your humour is fabulous. Of course you should mix the paint in the painting....🙄 I’m so glad you’re so booked up with your classes, so you should be....and I might just try tying a brush to my foot...could actually help, lol. Thank you for sharing your technique, it’s much appreciated.

Stuck with you from the beginning until then end. What a ride. Love your particular style and approach to oil painting.

I believe having astigmatism of my eyes has made my own style more like 'tonal-ism' or impressionism as I see blurred lines anyway! If I take off my glasses, I "see" better for painting an impressionistic painting. (But, it does me no good for any other part of daily life! LOL)
