I think this is the best designed sub-30' cruiser I've seen. I could see a ton of fun to be had gunkholing around an island group or club racing.

I like it and I guess it would be fun to sail in a breeze but I am seventy so not for me. I spent decades sailing a Contessa 26 in my younger days so I understand small. It is good that these boats are being produced and will make an affordable first boat a few year from now on the used market. Without boats like this many people would never afford to get into sailing.

Sweet little boat. I could see myself noodling around NY harbor in that. I could buy a used boat of good quality for a quarter to half that price. In 10 years or so those might make good used boats.

I keep wondering how that transparent cabin top would be on a hot sunny day. Seems like it would be a solar oven. Also possible privacy considerations when weekending? Love the ideas, not sure how well they’d translate to uses cases beyond daysailing….

Sweet little pocket cruiser. Not to bad price wise either. I'd be worried the cabin would be really hot though in the summer. Didn't really see any portlights.

Hey Toby - could you address the open transoms in some more detail - I think you've touched on them before. You see quite a few of them so they must not really be unsafe. If you have small children I'm not sure a sailboat is a great place to start with. There are some KZfaq sailing/cruising channels where they have small children SV Delos comes to mind and there is a lot of preparation involved. Delos is also an Amels which is a very different sort of sailboat.
@yachtingworld
@yachtingworld Жыл бұрын
@rtbinc2273 there are many many open transom designs around these days. I don't see them as inherently unsafe, if there is a sturdy enough guardrail in place. If you're asking about it with regards to having small children aboard, I would set it up with netting across there too, as you might around the rest of the lower guardrails/wires. The pros of open transom are easy aft and swim platform access and obviously less weight - the cons are things can get washed out from the cockpit (but hopefully not crew, however big or small if the right precautions are taken). Set aside the design, and you will see a cheaply made Polish boat, with materials and solutions which are much less expensive and labor intensive than found on eg. Maxus Polish made sailboats. But the price is at least twice as much as Maxus 26 with good options

Nice little boat, not that cheap though (base price 100k Euro approximately), and it absolutely is a day sailor and not a cruiser, as you said. That is also, what Bente sells it as. It does not even got an anchor or windlass or for that matter a place to install either, for crying out loud. Heck, the couple at Sailing Uma has cruised on a very old 28ft monohul for nine years now, which they bought for 5.000 US Dollars right after college and fixed up. I just could not do that. The first couple of years they even cruised the Caribbeans with no sea rails at all on the boat, which is just dangerous. That leads me to, where would you put the safety gear necessary for fulltime cruising on a boat like this?

Got intrigued so went to look at the 39ft model, and tbh, if the put a Mainsheet in the Cockpit and Twin Rudders on a Sailboat, it definitely leaves way to much to be desired from a builder of what markets itself as some sort of Cruising Sailboat. Probably fit for Sailboat Racing Loonies, but absolutely bloody useless for Cruising Sailors like me disappountingly. Pretty colour schemes dont help cut the Mustard when the Shit gets serious do they Toby? 🤔
@philareilly

Two rudders offers redundancy and reduced draft, some pretty desirable features in my opinion (also required when the beam is brought all the way aft, unless you want a really deep rudder).
@brownnoise357
@brownnoise357 Жыл бұрын
@@philareilly If you consider both rudders getting ripped off due to neither rudder having any protection as "Redundancy" then I'll go with that. What you also have redundancy of is low speed manouverability and the reduncy of that vital early warning to depower the Sails that is called Weather Helm. All "Redundancy" features I will a ois at all costs thank you very much as I am a raiser and not interesting in Posing as some sort of Retard Sailboat Racer (many of whom apparently are ditching twin rudders and going back to single rudders at very considerable expense). As usual, "Do Stupid Things And You Win Stupid Prizes". Which is why I have avoided any and all Racing Sailboat "Features" on my boats since the 1979 Fastnet Race Tragedy. Others appear to be less inclined to Learn, but that's their Coice. Boatbhilders however, Have No Excuse . Do They. 🤔
@philareilly
@philareilly Жыл бұрын
@@brownnoise357 No offense, but what I take from this response is that anybody who races is an idiot, any boatbuilder that offers twin rudders is misguided, and any boat without a skeg or keel-hung rudder is dangerous.

@@brownnoise357 Your choices seem to have made you incredibly grumpy and unhappy. So maybe you should try something different. Also you should consider that people have different preferences even if they fit under the same umbrella of sailboat cruising. There are as many ways to cruise as there are cruisers and every sea is different too.
@brownnoise357
@brownnoise357 Жыл бұрын
@@samianttilampela6384 Measured against the Beaufort Scale and Barometric Pressure, there aren't really any significant differences between Seas until you get into the likes of the Roaring Forties and Super El Nino's anyway. The Fundamental Needs of Successful Liveaboard Cruisers haven't really changed in a hundred years. Treat Beaufort Scale 6 Winds as a Yacht Gale and run like hell from any of them in a Boat able to Ride it out if necessary, given enough Sea Room. If you can't outrun it, have a shallow enough Draft to be able to tuck into well she,tired Bays with enough water at low tide to be able to Anchor in securely. It isn't Rocket Science, it isn't Sailboat Racing, it's Cruising on Sailboats that have the basic essentials designed and built into them. If you screw up you get Grumpy, if you Survive afloat for Decades you have everything to smile about. So "Grumpy" Stop Projecting your Failures and lack of Comprehension onto other People. Right? 🤔

OK, this was an interior design review. Bit disappointed that the toiletry bag was not Bente branded on the inside! 🫣 This is becoming embarrassing for a respectable yachting magazine. How about bringing back some some quality journalism into this, and having a look at the practicalities of sailing? I’d be eg interested why is the main sheet in the middle if the cockpit, and not aft off the traveller, etc. But maybe I’m the weird one(?).

I was very bemused that the toiletry bag got that much attention, but essential features like how sheets are run etc. are omitted in this walk-through. I think it’s a cool-looking boat, likely fun to sail, and with some creature-comfort.
