Amid many economic and social challenges, cocoa and palm oil smallholders in Cameroon have established their farms as a source of income for themselves through entrepreneurship and determination - but today, they face new challenges. Thin (or absent) profit margins, unstable markets, changing consumer demands, conflicts and unpredictable climatic patterns complicate their livelihoods now more than ever. But do they have the necessary resources to adapt to these changes?
Over half of Cameroon’s population works in the agricultural sector, and Jean-Marie, Chantal, Jean-Jacques and Mama Mary open up their worlds to us, voicing the concerns and hopes of millions of smallholders across the country.
About the GCRF Trade, Development and the Environment Hub (TRADE Hub): The Trade, Development and the Environment Hub (TRADE Hub), led by UNEP-WCMC, was established as part of a suite of hubs designed to address 12 development challenges of global significance by UKRI’s Global Challenges Research Fund. Researching trade in wild species and agricultural commodities, our Hub seeks to address the longstanding tension between trade-induced economic growth, environmental and social impacts, especially for vulnerable population groups. The work is critically relevant to current global debates from farmers and forest users, through to business and finance agencies, supply chain actors and consumers and those setting national and global policy and laws. About the Congo Basin Institute, Cameroon: The Congo Basin Institute is a joint initiative of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture and UCLA. yeah, to pay higher (more environmentally & socially realistic) prices for the cocoa. also, the carob alternative for (temperate/less tropical) places that do not / cannot grow cocoa (i wonder why not include cutting/mixing the cocoa with carob powder too (like for chocolate production)?). and of course to grow it in better/best methods (like smart agroforestry..)

Is it worth 🤔 the money 💰? To sacrifice the earth 🌎 and land that sustains us and all life.... The moment you cut down a tree 🌳 you must re-plant another one..... Insects, flowers, and plants 🪴 naturally need one another and wild life too.... Do not destroy what keeps you here...
