A Sneaky Snook Almost Snookered Me 2024

Another middle of the day scorcher on the Gulf while looking for Snook flippin' the Mirrodine suspending twitch bait and I finally found a decent size critter that tried awfully hard to separate me from my Mirrodine while burying up in the Mangroves 3 different times....When you're using light tackle there's not much room for mistakes.....LOL!!

Thanks Jeff!! I was just about to the point of getting into the salt and doing some hand to finn contact.....LOL....I know I nearly lost my leader and about 5 ft. of my line to abrasion....It was a relief to get those grips in the mouth of that Linesider!!

Thanks Dave!! I was a couple of cuss words from taking a dive into the mangroves....I was just about of options....LOL!!

Thanks Ryan!! They either head for the mangroves or manage to get either your line or leader in those razor sharp gill plates....It's always an adventure in the back country!!

Thanks Ken!! Redfish like to dig the bottom and Snook like to jump into the bushes....Sometimes I get reel lucky catching them on light tackle!!

Thanks JJ!! This species is known for seeking cover when hooked....But my light tackle sometimes makes it hard to turn a Snook unless you're in open water....I got lucky this time.....LOL!!

Thanks BIGD!! They are really an Apex Predator in those Mangroves.....I was lucky this time to work things out because I was about to take a swim and have a reel discussion with this high flying Snookster.....LOL!!

Thanks!! I was just about to get into the water and wade thru all the entanglement because it's very rare to retrieve any fish once it gets into all this vegetation!!

Thanks Dug!! They are strong critters but it's the aerials that always give me the thrill.....They certainly know to head for cover and they are very good at taking your plastic by getting in the bushes or cutting you off with their razor sharp gill plates!!

Thanks Rande!! They are strong and smart and on lite tackle they can be a hand full in all these mangroves.....They are right at home being ambush predators in the mangroves!!

TOTWF.....Thanks!! I was about to go wade fishin'....I just couldn't risk breaking off with the light tackle....My 10 lb. reel line had about 4 ft. of frey and the 30 lb. leader was all chewed up by the Snook....For once I got my Mirrodine back and I got a tale to tell!!

The lowest I go on my braid is 20lb, you living on the wild side with 10lb lol. That was for sure an epic battle, most of the time it ends the other way.
