Two of the most important things you can bring with you and they don't weigh a thing. 1. Emergency/First-aid training. Avalanche courses for you west coast high alpine riders. 2. At minimum a basic working knowledge of how your sled works. How to change a belt, plugs, start your machine if the pull cord/starter fails. A plus of the Cat mountain seat is the cavernous storage pocket. I keep a small tarp in there. Can be used as a shelter in a pinch. Also, and I've done this when a few sleds went through the ice on a cold night. Track, rear skid, everything froze up solid and would not budge. Fold it up the width of the track and zip tie it to the bottom at the drive shaft. Sled can be towed out, slides on the tarp.

I like to carry a pair of warm socks as well. If you're stuck over night they'll be worth their weight in gold. Also space blanket and emergency bivvy as minimum shelter/patient care. Oh yeah, and a puffy jacket for an extra layer and a first aid kit

I carry my jetboil with me and ramen, if I get stuck over night it’s always nice to be able to heat some noodles up on a cold night or during a normal day ride

I will definitely add vice grips to my bag. Somethings I recommend: glow stick and or a road flare. It’s impossible to not at start a fire with one of those. Great for emergencies too. I like having some paracord and extra batteries for beacons and headlamps. The last thing I highly recommend is an emergency blanket or bivy.

If ur running a belt drive dont forget a spare belt for that. I also carry a thing called Jet Boil, a little burner/cup combo, can boil a cup of water in short order! Awsome for coffee, hot chocolate, warm up soup, its pretty deadly on a cold day to have a warm drink! I also carry pain meds such as Advil, spare key for the sled, spare contact lenses, first aid kit, and the number one thing to never leave without is my Sno Bunjee, it has a hook on each end and you use another sled to extract stuck sleds, worth its weight in gold! Also I perfer my Delorme In Reach over the spot as the in reach has two way communication so you can actually text with your rescuers or who ever.
