*Just an update; There is a manufacture date on the lathe and it was made **_Feb of 1982._* It's 42 years old.

These were originally made in Australia, the product line was sold to Joe Martin in 1975 and manufacturing moved to the USA. 1982 was the last year of brass bed production.

If I remember those lathes were and or still are made here in San Diego county

LOL. I found out what was wrong with me about 5 years ago and its been fixed. No more barfing. 🤮

I love my Sherline stuff. Clickspring is the reason I got it. The collets he uses are the ones Sherline sells, and he did the precision improvement on them. That chuck could be a knock off of a Sherline, or one that someone has messed with. The text on them is not deep and it looks like a belt sander has run across the face at some point. Taig Tools sells chucks that fit HOWEVER they have low thread engagement so you need to remove some of the material off the back to get them with enough engagement. Once that is done they are great. Also they sell a really cheap blank that fits and is great for custom work holding and tool holding. They also have a ER16 adapter that fits it. It works great. I have all my machining tools on one desk, so being so small is fantastic for my use.

Thanks for the heads up. I suspect the chuck is a knock off and not sherlines chuck. I can't imagine sherline making that huge of a mistake and then passing that through QC. I have noticed the marks as well on the chuck. What I'm thinking is tossing that to my used chuck bin (imagined chuck bin) and saving it for a rainy day _(Oops, sorry Donald, I mean another day 🤣)_ where it is needed for some other project down the road. Maybe a modified tail stock or welding jig. Maybe a vice attachment. I never heard of taig tools. I checked them out and appreciate the heads up. Looks like some hard competition for sherline for sure. Due to the age of my lathe I really want to keep it as sherline as possible though. It's going to be a long while before I get the chuck anyway as my main focus is my shop in general and I have no real use for the sherline right now in the shop. As my shop and business grows, WW3 depending, and my product line increases I want to be able to have the ability to do small parts. The sherline making the smallest but I do intend on adding a smaller lathe like a monarch 10EE just for 5C work. I would really like to see your set up. You can email me pics if you want. Or do a video. The micro side of machining has always fascinated me and the things people make with their small equipment. I was making rocket motors for a while on my sherline but at the time being in Ventura I didn't have anywhere to launch them and the 2 I did launch I launched over the ocean and they both got a very negative response from the both the parks and recreation service and the coast guard. Soo I shelved that idea.
