A Spontaneous Landscape - Following the Lead of Watercolour

A loose, spontaneous and playful way to paint with watercolour and create paintings that feel "alive" - watch me throw paint on paper and let it flow. This landscape/seascape was painted in a limited palette using four colours only.
**MATERIALS USED***
PAPER:
Baohong "The Master's Choice" Rough 300GSM 23 x 31cm (9 x 12 in)
BRUSHES:
Art Basics Oval Wash Size 8
NEEF Thomas W Schaller Mop Size 0
NEEF Goat Hake 30 mm
Princeton Select Script Liner Size 10/0
Princeton Neptune Round Size 4
Panart 1102 Round Size 0
...and a random bristle fan brush I used to drag the paint down to create the backlit rain.

Aussie Red Gold (Daniel Smith)
Carbazole Violet (Daniel Smith)
Burnt Umber (Daniel Smith)
Payne's Grey (Art Spectrum)
White Gouache (Art Spectrum)

Optimal serenity, watching you paint Anastasia! There are so many things I learn just watching your process. Favorites learned today: THE MOON ❤❤❤. The sailboats too. Watercolor is so magical even when you have a more controlled approach like I do (honestly I’m trying to loosen up😂) it still performs like magic. Watercolor just can’t help itself. It’s the most satisfying medium ever. Thank you for all you do. Blessings to you this Christmas Day, and a Glorious New Year in 2024!

Another beautiful painting. I watch at half speed to make sure I can read your comments as well as imagine your thought process through the progression of your work. Very inspiring and causing me to shift my focus away from replicating a picture to just painting and allowing the paint movement to help me develop a scene. Thanks again for the inspiring demo.

Thank you so much Tracie 😊 My palette is a bit of a mess 😁 36 wells filled with colours arranged in a rather semi-random manner! I would typically use just a handful of colours in a single painting, and I list them in the description of each video. I'm returning to watercolor after a 40 year hiatus... been studying and learning from KZfaq. I'm struggling to find my style. I think it might not be the florals and other themes now so popular... I'm searching for something else. I love structure and sound draftsmanship, but the paint and I are still fighting. They are pointless little battles that leave me feeling empty. I like this approach and will try it. I love doing landscapes. Thank you for a nice video... new sub. 👏

I recently found your channel and have been devouring each video over and over again! ❤ I keep forgetting to hit like, but I will definitely go back and do that..,And I am subscribed now too. I love your style of painting. It’s so beautiful and restrained and…. I don’t even know all the adjectives to describe them…. They’re just gorgeous. Quick question though: what is the brush that you’re using in this video and a couple others, that you use with the white gouache to make the sun? Is that a filbert? Thanks again for your content❤❤❤

Oh, thanks for narrowing that down. 😊The Princeton Neptune round size 4, ok … In the video, it looked like a firmer bristled Filbert… Every time I try to paint a naturally round moon or sun, in order to get it perfectly round, it keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger ha ha ha anyway, thanks again for everything. I really appreciate you.❤

Hope you have fun painting! Hard to say about the brush sizes as they are different across brands/types. I love large soft floppy mops. Sizes 2 and 4 would be my most used ones. I list my materials, including brushes, in the description of my videos, hope this helps 😊
