I like how the recruiting officer here seems so nice. It reminds you that, though the Empire is evil, and what it does is evil, the people are largely just people--some good, some bad, most lying somewhere in the middle. This guy wasn't some evil villain who joined up to kick puppies; he may have even started out as someone not too different from Han.

"Yeah... you can be a pilot, just sign here...." *Fast forwards a few years to horrific ground based trench warfare* 10/10 most accurate representation of military recruitment.

But in reality, we all know how they are. We even know how the original theme sounds. It sounds sinister. I liked that they made the Imperial March real, like the people can hear their them and know what it is.

I thought it was way cool that they actually used the Imperial March in the recruiting video, revealing that that was their actual theme and not just some 4th-barrier theme in the movies. Hard to explain, but do y’all get what I’m saying?

Solo is his own man. No people. No family. No tribe. Last names were only created on Earth a thousand or so years ago. It's not surprising that parts of Corellia may not have adopted that Galactic tradition.

I think this is the only time in Star Wars canon the Imperial March has been used as actual "in-universe" music, and not just as a leitmotif only the audience hears.

Does he have no people? Han later says in the film he had a father. I know Canon says his father ended up abandoning him and eventually dying but Han can't just say he comes from nothing and has "No People." Just like our world, I'm pretty sure there are records of Han and his family somewhere. What's also weird about this scene is I never understood how the Empire just accepted Han without a background check, a full medical evaluation, or made sure he wasn't a spy. Even when Han says "I have no people" when he was supposed to give his last name, wouldn't that throw a red flag to any Military Recruiting Officer? I'm pretty sure if you walk into the recruiting office for the U.S. Navy and did not put your last name on the application, they would most likely ask you to fill it in, not to mention when you are applying you have to have some form of a Government-issued I.D., and being that the Empire was in control of the entire Galaxy at this point, I'm pretty sure everyone alive would have scandocs. Even Cassian in Rogue was asked by Stormtroopers to provide his scandocs to them when he was being questioned and in the previous scene before this one, Han and Kira were asked to present ID-Chips at the Imperial Checkpoint before they handed the Coaxium as a bribe to get through. It's also canon that in order to join the Imperial Academy, you must have standardized examination scores that meet the requirements in order to dispatch your application. Yet Han just walks up, says he wants to join, has not taken any tests with no ID Chip/Scandocs and the Officer just pops out an Imperial credential and sends him off.

I don't know why they feel the need to come up with quirky backstories to everything. Why cant he just be Han Solo? Same with Rogue One. Why did they feel the need to have someone engineer an exhaust chute going to the core to exploit instead of some guy figuring out that they have this exhaust chute that they can exploit?

In fairness, this was a pretty nifty (and depressing) way of showing us how Han got the name Solo. Because let’s face it, Solo is a weird surname to have, even in the SW Universe I guess. Showing us that Han literally came from nothing and had nobody, and that that’s how he got the name Solo, it’s quite an interesting touch.

Just saying, it was never truly confirmed but in legends, Han was apart of the Empire during his Early life though he was apart of ISB

It's a pet peeve of mine but I hate the sentence "Join the Empire"! It makes no sense! If it's an Imperial planet, they're already citizens of the Empire! The sentence should be "Join the Imperial military."
