This core isn't as old as the Chicago core was when they fell apart. It's literally as old as the old Chicago core is now. They got a legit middle 6 guy and probably one or more future NHLers for Guentzel. They should listen to offers for anyone, including Sid.

As much as I feel for the pens, this is what happens to every team after they make cup runs. The crazy part is that you guys got 3 cups out of it. Tons of teams trade picks and prospects to get cups and never get there, they all end up back in rebuilds and the cycle continues. I think everyone saw this coming eventually, I think it should of happened a few years ago and it got dragged out but it’s rebuild time for sure.

Its ironic that the SHarks trading for Karlsson is what totally wrecked the team and put them where they are now (losing Josh Norris and the pick that turned into Stutzle) and they ship Karlsson to pitts and he sinks that ship too. But to what you stated, they got 3 cups out of it... the Sharks made so many moves and didnt get anything out of it, that their last move - the Karlsson trade, was the worst one of them all.

He's not shell-shocked he knew the trade was coming, don't think he wasn't in conversation with Dubas. Sid is upset and disappointed as he worked his ass off all summer so he would never miss the playoffs again, and Pens went out and got EK who's been less than stellar. Smith for the most part who has been not near up to par. He's frustrated and probably very concerned and then lose 6-0 to the Caps at home and disappoint the fans and tonight pretty much sealed the deal on their post season. At least last yr was right down to the last game. This is the first of March, there's very, very little window left. Ps then reporter sticks phone in his face. I agree, yes it sucks trading jake, but even with him this team was not making the playoffs. Even if Dubas resigned him, that just limits any big changes to the roster and you run it back with likely the same result next season. We are spoiled as fans seeing sid and company win 3 cups, any fanbase would take that in a hearbeat. But its time to look to the future and start getting younger and rebuild. who knows the if any of these players will be any good, but better than jake walking after the season of not making the playoffs. This wont be the only move Dubase makes before the deadline. Do people really want to see more results same as tonight, getting torched 6-0?? @@TheBillaro

It’s probably less about Jake as playing on a team that’s essentially out of it before mid March. He’s had great friends go before. Armstrong, Fleury, Talbot, Staal, Kunitz and even Dupuis forced into early retirement. All part of being veteran on the same team for so long. The difference here is the future isn’t as bright as it has been before.

If he plays at a high level next year (and let’s face it: even if he doesn’t he’s Sidney Crosby) and the Pens still suck, they could move him during the season to a contender for a world of picks and prospects, he can compete for a cup and then come back to sign with the Pens and try to be part of the rebuild that his trade started. His entire life is in Pitt. There’s more to it for athletes than what happens on the ice/field. He owns a home, his girlfriend has a life, and the Pens are going to make room for him somewhere in the organization once he’s done. He’s not done with the Pens. Crosby deserves better. Pens should trade him to Colorado to let him have a chance to win a cup with his buddy MacKinnon. Then for Crosby's retirement they can reacquire him for 1 day contract so he can retire as a Penguin. Do this man a service after all he's done for you and the NHL. He doesn't deserve to play on a basement team for his final years.

Unfortunately the penguins put emotions over winning. When this happens this is the outcome you get. Never should have resigned Letting and Malkin. Should have traded them a long time ago when we could have gotten value.

Syd will always be a pen, but I hope he doesn't just flitter away his last few years finishing his career on a floundering team. If he doesn't move to a cup contender he might as well retire.

Cmon, the team got great on paper, it's the coaching that couldn't utilize the team properly. That in mind probably should've fired the coaching staff.

Horrendous trade completely demoralized this team. Dubas is a low level GM. Should send Sid to a contender and get him out of this dreadful organization.

Couldn't believe I had gotten to that point last month. Fed up wondering if this was the best they could have done with trades after GMJR, if there's a problem with coaching, in the room, what.

Itbis going to be down hill for the rest of the season as we try and unload more tomorrow. The only glimmer of hope to change is if the day after the season they let every coach except goaltending go. Otherwise next year expect same path we have been winding down for 7 years. You need to tank this season, clean house and sell the change to Sid and free agents.

sentimentality has no place in a professional sports organisation. gino and letang should have never been extended, Carter is 39 and puljujarvi couldn't score in a brothel. this is a horrible trade. if they can pay gino $24.4m for 4 years I can't see why they couldn't do a deal with jake. sentimentality.....

"Sullen" has a negative connotation. This is Sid being as professional as ever, I think "deflated" is a better word.
