Warren Mitchell used to say that he'd had people come up to him in the street and say things like, "well done for laying into those ", completely ignorant of the fact that he was Jewish, and Alf was intended to be a figure of ridicule. All of the people commenting agreeing with Alf's rant should understand that he was nearly always the butt of the joke -- whether it was his wife going on strike, or a black man fixing his television & getting handsomely paid for the work. It's sad, but a lot of ignorant people took the various incarnations of Alf at face value. Given that it's now 50+ years old, that context is also lacking when folk view isolated clips on KZfaq.
