A Tale of Two Sons: With A Never Heard Before Surprise Ending to the Parable of the Prodigal Son (VCY Rally)
One of the most familiar, best-loved stories of the Bible is also one of the most misunderstood and poorly taught. There's more drama, raw emotion, and profound meaning to the parable of the prodigal son than most people realize.
In this sermon, John takes you back in time to Jesus' masterful telling of the penetrating story, helping you hear, understand, and respond to it the same way His original listeners did. Along the way, John restores the brilliance of the parable, giving you engrossing cultural and historical background, and unveiling a shocking, surprise ending.
This sermon takes you inside God's tender heart for sinners, and spurs you to deeper study of His Word as you see new richness unfold from even this most familiar passage.

Amen, praise the Lord Almighty!!! Its almost surreal and unbelievable when he saves us and we don't understand why he would ever choose us. He is amazing beyond explanation. The more I know about him and closer I get in my relationship by prayer and reading the word I am completely overwhelmed with who God is and how great and grand he is. God is everything and the fullness of everything. Before I knew God my life was meaningless and I had no joy or excitement to look forward to but since he has brought me from death unto life every single day and moment is exciting and anticipating knowing more about him. Thank you Lord, holy holy holy are you and to be praised and worship for we are truly unworthy of your glory but you still gave us repentance for salvation as an option and Jesus death on the cross, paying for our sin is truly amazing how loving you are Lord to do that for us by your grace. Thank you Lord thank you so much! “For you did not choose me, but I chose you. -John 15:16 worthy you are of all praise and worship Lord

God bless you. May you come to understand the scriptures now that your eyes have been opened. John MacArthur is probably the best Bible teacher alive today, but is not the only faithful expository preacher out there. When churches got away from catechisms, confessions, expository preaching, doctrine, and teaching their members to use the great puritan writings of the past, it all went down hill, into a man-made, man-centered gospel. I grew up in the church, thought I was saved, but wasn't.

@@1234poppycat this doesn't necessarily mean and doesn't directly imply Pastor John being a part of or involved in the actions that are the seminary is being accused of nor means it has anything to do directly with/by John MacArthur himself being involved in the actions that have taken place, if they indeed happened. I know my pastor and I know that if he were to be aware of any wrongdoings going on he would have addressed and repaired them immediately. It could have been something going on amongst/by/to the every day faculty and we know it is safe to say that it happens every day that things are going on in a business where the owner is unaware or the last to know

@@apluvslakers1 Of course he is involved . MacArthur is President of Masters University in Santa Clarita, CA. He also has a track record of telling lies about Catholicism in his you tube videos -- one I just read ""Catholicism re sacrifices Jesus over and over again in the Catholic Mass"" When the Catholic Mass and Eucharist is "part of the ONE living and perfect sacrifice " as Jesus commanded 3 times in John 6 (which is supported by 14 other scripture)
@apluvslakers1

@@1234poppycat I was a catholic before I know what they do in their church and indeed every week they recreate the mass of Christ; some churches perform an all out live recreation with church members acting each as a character of the crucifixion of Christ with the most evident and significant person to humanity for our entire existence which is the Lord Jesus Christ always being at the center of the act showing and implying by the mass message itself that we are suffering to the Lord and he is punished for our sins with the person playing Christ showing extreme pain being felt by the actor by letting out cries of pain continously as if Christ is being sacrificed for us that very moment and we are in the very presence of him suffering and being sacrificed for us. Some other catholic churches just say it as part of the sermon that Christ is being sacrificed for us, implying then that Christ work on the cross was not completed when he suffered it once and for all so he is suffering it again and again, totally contrasting Jesus own authoritative truth when as he was passing he stated while still hanging from the cross the words" Tetelastai" - "It IS FINISHED" I also can assure you for a fact that I experienced different teachings at different Catholic churches individually, some which didn't include this teaching but some did practice it... so I guess each Church may even have authority to teach or practice whatever they believed individually within the same religion... ? Either that or maybe the church has different beliefs within the religion which can vary individually to each churchs teachings about what it believed...? Look ALL I can really tell you is for sure that I know being Catholic I was completely confused and had no idea what I believed in and all I know is that from my family, for most or all the previous generations the only thing that they knew for sure including my Mom herself is that they were Catholic because their parent was Catholic and on and on it was being passed on as a tradition to the family, I am actually the first one to boldly and gladly abandon the belief of me being Catholic as some kind of inheritance and live satisfied with that. I actually started reading the word of God and getting more interested in God something that I'm sure came from his grace alone to look upon me and give me those little questions that didn't sound right in my head once I started reading the Bible I understood completely that the church was a complete heresy and blessing me to the real living God and the word of God which the church does not teach or practice it is actually something that they are even against! so then I ask where is their authority coming from who is the authority on what they believe and why they stand by it and all I can say is if it is not from God I can imagine where it might be coming from in that case. I don't want to offend anybody please do not in any way take this the wrong way, all I really would recommend to any person who is standing strong for something and doesn't really know exactly where the belief comes from or where the tradition comes from to if they are interested in really knowing what the real religion and the real Church of God really is is to go and deep deep dive into the word of God that reveals all things through the holy Spirit as said in the same Bible that is the way it was revealed to me and I started seeing every single thing that was completely and boldly rejecting God and Christ. All my small and limited teachings I had ever been taught is that Mary is to be worshipped as God himself and praised, prayed to, believed in, taken flowers to her wooden image at the church and bowing to it and that by completely simply overlooking, skipping Christ and going directly to Mary you would get a sure and quicker response as if she has some kind of higher authority or closer access to have God actually not only hear us but to fulfill our prayers through her mediation....and that we are should pray to her and she intervenes for us to get to God which is completely blaspheming the one and only mediator as the Bible says the one and only person's name that we should be saved by is the name Jesus Christ The one and only mediator between God and man is the man Christ Jesus that goes completely against the word of God. Please just take this as a loving, concerned message do not take this as an attack in any way. I am simply concerned for people's souls for having the wrong belief or praising the wrong God will get you to hell and not to the kingdom of God I think each person should have an opportunity to really know who the real God is and therefore be saved by that God and changed and most of all saved from eternal hell and God's wrath ♥️✝️

@@apluvslakers1 you say you were a Catholic yet it is amazing how you got the fundamentals so wrong. 1 No acting out of the crucifixion 2 No Catholic Church would have people saying the Mass was sacrificing Jesus again - that is straight out of the protestant hate preacher handbook. Catholic Catechism "Worship is reserved for the Godhead alone (Father Son and Holy Spirit)" 3 "Skipping Christ and going direct to Mary" as you say is absurd as in Catholicism Mary and the Saints guide us to Jesus the mediator

The problem is that I understand what he is saying and what he is prepared to go to boost his brand of hate .... He consistently lies and misrepresents Catholicism and specifically the Pope. He is a hate preacher through and through. --- One example is he repeatedly says Catholics Worship Mary --Catholics worship only God Himself, the Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We do not worship Mary or any Saint. To do so would be a form of idolatry. People should be cautious about making judgements on other cultures (in this case Catholic Christianity ) which they do not fully understand. We Catholic Christians pray to Mary. We love her. We talk to her. We ask her prayers. We are affectionate towards her, because she was and is so close to Jesus. As Luke 1:48 says “For He has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed.” Catholics are very happy to be among those like the Orthodox, Copts, Armenians, Syriacs and Ethiopians - all other ancient Churches in fact - who call Mary blessed, who ask her prayers. At Cana Mary alerted Jesus to the wine shortage, and in response He worked his first miracle. Maybe He still works miracles at Mary’s prompting? Those who do not call Mary blessed, are disobeying the Scripture. I don’t think Jesus likes supposed Christians disrespecting his Mother.

John Macarthur is one of the few pastors that teaches the true gospel. As Jesus said to the Pharisees in Matthew 24- woe to you who lead men to destruction. - for the younger Christians reads I use to let men like the guy below influence my Christian life until I meditates on this verse James 1:6 It is written to ask God to give you wisdom and he will give it to you all liberally. The answer is in our scripture. So How do we know if John Macarthur speaks the truth? In 1 John 4:3 Jesus says "if someone claims to be a prophet and does not acknowledge the truth about Jesus, that person is not from God. Such a person has the spirit of the Antichrist, which you heard is coming into the world and indeed is already here". This is NLV translation - in NIV it reads but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.

The focus is not on the inheritance , its to show the depravity and selfishness of all men and yet God by his mercy still chooses to save a few . Jeremiah 17:9 "The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? Romans 9:15 I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion."It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God's mercy.

I think the oldest son was hurt, the anger was hiding that. We know the Father spent his time looking for the younger son, but we never hear of the time he spent with the son that chose to stay, there may in fact have been neglect of some sort. Dont ever assume your children understands grace just because they stay close by... you have to teach it to them!

denoinwa- quite the contrary. MacArthur is completely correct in his evaluation of the current crop young "reformed" pastors & mega "church" feel good self help meditation centers. Furtic, Noble, Young, Warren, Hybels, Gramling, Driscoll and all the rest are clueless about what the calling of a pastor is nor what salvation, repentance, grace and original sin are but, they can sure talk about the law and what a person has to "do" to "earn the favor & attention" of God so that they can lead an

MacArthur is great. Wish he didn't rely on Bailey so much here though. Has anyone here ever considered that Jesus might actually have been mocking the Pharisees when he told them, "you have aaalways been with me, and aaall that is mine is yours [as if]"? Mocking? From Jesus? Yes, even from The Father in numerous places. Have another look at Jesus dragging out the words "aaalways" and "aaall" and looking straight at the Pharisees while saying this. Get the picture?

The Bible teaches that if a true believer sows to please his sinful nature he'll DIE (go to Hell) (Rom.8:13; Gal.6:8,9)! The prodigal is a clear example of this (Lk.15:24,32). The end result of sin is spiritual death, so DO NOT BE DECEIVED (James 1:14-16). If you claim to be a Christian and yet "sin everyday", you are not cleansed (1 Jn.1:5-7), and you don't love Him (John 14:15). You must "go and sin no more" (Jn. 5:14,8:11)! ONLY if you TURN FROM SIN will He have mercy on you (Is.55:6-7).

second thing he got wrong was calling the prodigal was a penitent sinner. He didn't repent in the far country. he is just hungry. He uses the same words pharaoh in exodus 10 says Moses to get him to stop the plague and then he refuses to release God's ppl (its fake repentance) The son repents when he sees the father run to him in a demonstration of costly unexpected love he then understands the issue is not the money but broken relationship. He said he read Ken baileys work. quite clear he didnt

The text teaches the prodigal's son was lost, and his coming to the Father is equal to his conversion. However some will try to make the parable too literal, as if the son had always been saved and was out living in sin - I don't believe that is what it is teaching.

John MacArthur shows us his perversion: * "a true Christian possessing saving faith can commit occasional acts of adultery". Sounds like a license to sin, if ever I heard of one! (Hence, there are some Christian adulterers according to Mac.) * "a true Christian possessing saving faith can commit occasional acts of drunkenness." Sounds like a license to sin , if ever I heard of one! (Hence, there are some Christian drunks according to Mac.) * "A true Christian possessing saving faith can murder himself (be a suicide) and afterwards go to heaven, even though he died as an unrepentant murderer." Sounds like a license to sin, if ever I heard of one! * a true Christian can commit the list of sins cited in 1 Cor. 6:9,10 just short of going all the way back to live like he used to and still have a saving faith." Sounds like a license to sin, if ever I heard of one! Here is that list, in case you are unacquainted with it. Paul, under the influence of the Holy Spirit says: Or do you not know that THE UNRIGHTEOUS WILL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD? [Friends, listen to this warning] DO NOT BE DECEIVED: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. (1 Cor. 6:,10) [The other apostles and Jesus added more sins that keep one out of the kingdom of God} *" no sin regardless how heinous, including child molestation, rape, murder, homosexuality, etc., will ever prevent a person previously saved from entering heaven." Sounds like a license to sin, if ever I heard of one! And Mac just voided, IN HIS PERVERTED HEAD, the scriptures above. And to top it off, MacArthur tells us: * Sin works for our good!" Sounds like a license to sin, if ever I heard of one! Paul warned us about these wicked men: Romans 6:1 What shall we say then? ARE WE TO CONTINUE IN SIN SO THAT GRACE MAY INCREASE? 2 MAY IT NEVER BE! HOW SHALL WE WHO DIED TO SIN STILL LIVE IN IT? ALL translations condemn: * adulterers [two persons engaging in sexual intercourse while one or both is married] using terms like adultery, unfaithful in marriage * criminal activity by robbers, extortioners, swindlers, cheaters, thieves * idolaters [people who worship idols] * drunkards * thieves, using terms steal, thieves, and cheats * greedy persons, described as covetous, greedy, avaricious, and selfish * slanderers, described as revilers, slanderers, lie about others, abusive, etc.

It's because I read my Bible that I can tel a quack like McArthur from a real teacher and that is why I don't take the crap that comes from their mouth as revelation. You on the other hand revere ravening wolves and worship a god made up by their imagination. May God open your eyes and let you hear and understand the Truth, so you can be an overcomer. And stop taking heed to this guy.

Excuse me, Sir, when you add a "valid inference" to scripture and then say :" this is what happened", I assume you discovered the missing conclusion that would end any speculation so the word of God can finally be attainable to the layman. And the fact that he has been teaching whatever his own imagination has devised based on what he deems fit based on the catholic, protestant, babilonic paradigms he has not get rid off and that poison the well of his understanding, defiling yhe bowl of his intellect thus turning every thought into dung. If hr has been teaching this all this long, it only speaks ill of the ones that took heed, including myself at some point.

Most of the comments here just call people names - if there is a fault in his teaching they need to show from the Bible why that is false instead of just generalizing. No matter who there will always be some fault with everyone because we are all human.

I have to disagree with him. The younger brother spent all that was his. The older brother still had his father's inheritance. The loving Father encourages the elder to be excited about the younger brother's return and reminds him lovingly that his brother's return has not robbed him of what was his. Luke 15:31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine. MacArthur twist the story with his interjections. Read it as it says.

John reads into this way to much. I see the elder son being justifiably angry. Imagine that you have waited in line for an hour and as you approach your turn a person cuts in. How would you feel? This is true for all who live their lives for God and then someone cuts in. The Father comes to his wounded child an assures him that what his brother has done has not diminished his faithfulness. The presupposition is that all the Pharisees where evil, but is that so (Matthew 5:20)?

The salvation of all is guaranteed by the death and resurrection of Christ. But you don't acknowledge that there are eons of time in "God's eonian purpose" (See Eph 3:11)... and during the eons some like those who did not enter Noah's ark... do not see life. But what happens during the eons is not the same things as what happens when the eons are complete. Eonian life is for a few. Eonian life is not the only thing Christ accomplished at the cross on our behalf. Eonian life is for believers among the nations. Eonian life is for those of Israel who keep the law. God is especially the savior of believers. But God IS the savior of all. Not all believe... but all for whom Christ died will see life, and he died for all. During the eons, many things have to happen. Sin, death, evil, trouble of all sorts, but the eons will end. And God will be all in all. You keep equating eonian life with all there is. But no... eonian life is important. There is work to do during the eons. Both on the Earth and among the celestials. Colossians 1:15-20 promises reconciliation for all... all in the heavens, all on Earth, all under the Earth. All, baby, all. Eonian destruction is the lot of the wicked and unbelieving... But there is nothing "eternal" in the word "destruction"... in fact the word "destroy" and "LOST" are the same word in the Greek New Testament... as in "the lost sheep"... The lost/destroyed sheep can be found. Those who find themselves in "eonian destruction" -- it's just what happens during the eons of time. Every warning, threat, doom verse you come up with is concerning eonian life. The word "eternal" is just not in the Bible, it was an invented word, made up by John Wycliffe, who made the first English Bible. God is the savior of all mankind, especially -- but not exclusively -- of believers. You keep jumping to this "freewill" mythology in order to limit God's work in Christ's cross. Eternal destruction needs a "freewill" mythology to get God off the hook for sending folks to "hell". I'm here to tell ya... God is not on the hook for eternal hell... there is no such thing. God locks up all together in stubbornness so that He might be merciful to all (ROM 11:32) God made sure Adam sinned. God gave the law that sin might increase. Sin is a pre-requirement for salvation. Without Joseph's brothers doing that horrible sin against Joseph, they would not have been saved from the famine. Without the horrible sin of Judas we would not have a risen savior. Even YOUR sins sent Christ to the cross, not just Judas' sin. Sin is not a problem to God. See the cross. Death is no longer a problem, Christ rose. Evil is not a problem, God created evil (ISA 45:7) The issue before us is this: God shows us grace and saves us NOW... but for what purpose? Well, in the future, we, the church which is His body, will be put on DISPLAY says Paul in Ephesians. And when the celestials see the GRACE shown to us, they too will come home to the Father. All this has nothing to do with what God has planned for Israel on the Earth during the coming eons. Israel's place is with Christ's rule on Earth, our place is with Christ's effort to "reconcile all" even those in the heavens. That is why we have a special salvation. After all, God is the savior of all, especially of believers. (I TIM 4:10) kzfaq.info/love/G3HOrC2A7Jb5kHDEae9AAgvideos

No,there are pretend Christians who leave the Christian life and claim they are ex-Christians.Jesus said,'They went out from us to prove they were never of us,for if they were of us they would still be with us,but they left to show they were never of us".He also will tell many on that day who say "'lord,Lord, have we not done this and that in your name",and He will say"Depart you workers of lawlessness,I NEVER KNEW YOU",He never tells any,"I used to know you."
