Roy Marsden is brilliant as Dalgliesh, and P. D. James is one of the best mystery writers. A winning combination. Mystery does not get better than this!

Agreed, but the Indians are coming up on the inside. There have been a couple of terrific mysteries on Netflix recently.
@feralkat93704 ай бұрын
@@VLind-uk6mb For example? I like mysteries like this one but don't have the time for a 5-hour retelling as they did back in 1988 when this was made. I skipped 3,4 and 5 and watched the last 20 mins of this one and even that is too much time for just one story. I probably won't even remember it in a week. Lol
@VLind-uk6mb4 ай бұрын
@@feralkat9370 I don't remember the names. Use the search tab and put in Indian series. If you "do not have time" to watch these series -- an hour a day? A week? No need to binge stuff -- and think that is "too much time for just one story" I have no time for you. You certainly won't remember it in a week if you only saw the top and tail. Why do you watch a mystery? To find out who is in it and who did it? Clearly no idea how to watch a drama. I daresay you are not a reader.

Not to put too many spoilers here - he lost only the baby with the second one, was the first one pregnant?
@qhsperson8 жыл бұрын
Since I don't know which"he" you mean, I'll go for both. Dalgleish's first wife, after several miscarriages, died in childbirth giving birth to a child who also died. Lynley's (first?) wife was shot while pregnant, and after trying to keep her "alive" on life support for a short time in hopes of saving the baby, was allowed to die, along with the unborn baby. As to the "first?" for Lynley, there are more books in the series than movies in the tv series, so though I expect he'll get married again at some point, I can't say for sure one way or another. Have you read any of the books?

If we are to talk about how hopeless and depressing this plot line was, I'd like to talk about the changing of the will. Uhm - I thought the inspector's behaviour whilst under siege was ridiculous - instead of trying to keep the murderer calm she kept prodding him for information and thereby agitating him - perhaps she should have just shut up, fed him, and waited for the cavalry - a good sniper shot through the window which symbolically may have also shattered some of her OCD arranged plates would have been just as dramatic and left poor old gran in a better state of health.
@VLind-uk6mb11 ай бұрын
@@meofamily4 I found it quite credible -- he had no illusions about his wife, and of course if he had lived he could have changed it again -- though the way it read seemed exactly what he would want. Nice to see that bitch wife get her comeuppance -- she ruined the lives of everyone she touched except the objectionable Lampart, and he was set to lose even before the will removed her financial security.

That was excellent! Despite Roy Marsden's consistently enjoyable performance, I find the Adam Dalgliesh adaptations to be a bit hit-and-miss, with "The Black Tower" being particularly naff, but "A Taste for Death" more than redeemed some of other series' dodgier moments. Now for "Devices and Desires"...! ☝️😎

Yes, it's as though someone in continuity forgot to finish that thread! She was only supposed to have one.. The priest told Dalgleish that she had one and he had two. I don't know if she'd taken the one the priest left with Paul that was on the inside of the door? She was very confused with the shock and couldn't remember bits so she might have slipped it in her bag by mistake. But Paul had been told to lock the door as the priest left,so what happened was never adequately explained. We probably will have to read the book, should read the books.😁

The uploader didn't deliberately upload an incomplete series -- look at how much time he spent uploading more than 40 eps. I'd bet my life that ep 5 was taken down by YT for CR reasons, and there's nothing the uploader can do about that. How about showing some gratitude for all that he has shared, and all that you've watched, instead of jumping to the wrong conclusion and criticizing him?
