As a LL coach who’s incredibly below average baseball career came to an end after sophomore year of high school, I want you to know these type of videos are gold. No extra fuss or nonsense. Simplistic for kids and inexperienced coaches as well. Just know there are people on the other end of these videos that are genuinely benefiting from your efforts.

Matt, thank you so much for these easy-to-understand and practical approaches to pitching, throwing and catching. My husband and I are in over our heads at more than 70 years old and volunteer coaching 10 7-8 year old boy and girls in a coach pitch league. I use to do a little playing in high school; and I coached elementary kids for a short while in my 20's. But I really need a lot of help now! I am soaking up everything you are saying to try to relay it to our kids! ❤

I played baseball from ages 9-14 (I actually played in the same team as Lourdes Gurriel Jr. at that time). I had not played a lot since then. Last month, I began playing softball in the Roberto Clemente League in Lancaster, PA. I have struggled with my throwing technique and accuracy, and I even hurt my throwing shoulder last Sunday. I’m very happy and hopeful after watching this video. I think it will be very helpful for me. Thank you very much, Matt!

These are the best youth videos out there. Knowing what not to fixate on as a parent or coach is just as important as the drill. There is a ton of mechanics involved with baseball but a 6-8yo can only consume so much at a time. That is what watching your videos has helped me realize.

Yes what he was showing you in what I was taught when I was playing but also you can try this method with your outfielders. What our youth coach would do is he would have us lineup at the foul line then our coach would be in centerfield. So what us players would do is we would have a baseball in our hand and we would run to him and then we would flip the ball to our coach. Then what we would do is start sptinting and then he would make over the shoulder catches like a wide receiver would. But that taught outfielders to catch the ball over the shoulder and so that's something that you could do with your team but make it fun also with them

Best channel out there. It’s nice to see a REALISTIC video of a 7 year old. Even if he’s pretty advanced. Would love more youth videos. As a parent of a 12 year old and a 5 year old I feel like I gave my 12 yo way to much technical advice at too young of an age. Trying not to repeat that with my 5yo. When is it ok to start correcting their swing?
@user-sg8kq7ii3y
@user-sg8kq7ii3y 2 жыл бұрын
Don't correct his swing. Don't do anything. Don't "give advice". Don't "talk baseball" on the car ride home from practice. Don't "talk baseball" at the dinner table. Don't be overly involved with your kids athletics. Just take them to practice, drop them off, and simply let the coaches coach, and let the kids have FUN! Let you children have THEIR TIME to have fun and to enjoy themselves without their parents scrutiny. Parents today are WAY too involved in their kids' lives, and they turn EVERYTHING into a lesson. The problem with many parents today is that they live too much through their kids. They revolve their lives around their kids' experiences, and they just end up sucking all the joy out of athletics. Athletics is supposed to be FUN for kids. It's supposed to be a stress relief from the pressures of school, but, instead, many over-eager parents, who think their kid will be the next Tiger Woods or Lebron James, place way too much importance at "succeeding at sports". If your kid has the talent to become a good athlete, then he/she will become a good athlete. They DO NOT need your help. All they need from you is for you to simply LET THEM have fun, and LET THEM decide what they want to play. Way too many overbearing parents these days, ones who force their kid into a particular sports just because they like that sport. If you find yourself not being able to stay away from watching every single moment of your kids' practices, and if you find yourself not being able to resist giving your kid "Instructions", then I suggest you go find a hobby. Take up jogging, and go jogging around the neighborhood instead of watching your kids' every move at practice. Or go learn to play pickle ball or something.

Great video. I’ve been scouring KZfaq for the past few months because my 10-year old daughter (finally 😉) signed up for softball and I’ve been DYING to coach because baseball was my jam back in the day (I peaked when I was 11, BTW). I am NOT attempting to troll you nor am I even suggested that I know anything. But I am curious as to why you put your opposite foot forward when down on one knee?…it seems counterintuitive mostly because some of these 9 & 10 year old girls already step with the wrong foot when throwing so been trying to engrave it in to their brains to do it correctly then, if I showed them this warmup I think their brains would explode. 😂. For real though. Just wondering as I’ve been absorbing all of these instructional videos and making note of the dopest ones…like this one. It’s THE way to warmup (as it appears here, anyway). Thanks for the vid!

What size glove do you use for a 7 year old. Also, what’s the best way to break in a glove. It’s hard for him to catch because he doesn’t have the hand strength to close that glove and he’s using a 11 or 11.5 glove right now.

Jaeger bands and a good throwing routine done consistently even in the off season. My son broke his right elbow at 9. He’s right handed. Physical therapist introduced Jaeger bands. He’s 17, still playing baseball. He has never had any arm soreness or discomfort in all the years he has played. He starts at either Centerfield, 3rd base, SS or pitch’s although he likes playing the outfield. I am not in anyway associated with Jaeger bands.

They need to tuck the glove on the follow-through to maintain center of balance. If they're letting that glove flop around, it's going to pull their shoulder downward and the accuracy will suffer.
