Nutmeg's not funny. Don't do it.
These cases are patients who I, or my colleagues have seen. They are de-identified and many instances have been presented in more depth in an academic setting. These videos are not individual medical advice and are for general educational purposes only. I do not give medical advice over the internet, see your own physician in person for that.

yes!!! my mom was a paramedic and she was called to an elderly couple at a restaurant where the woman was going into anaphylaxis and having chest pains. They didn't tell my mom what she had eaten because "she'd eaten it in the past". It was a severe shrimp allergy. she had suddenly developed a severe allergy to it and if her husband hadnt been told my mom (the wife couldn't speak obviously) then the treatment might not have been accurate and life-saving. The woman ended up surviving :)

Not filled with chemical. They consist of chemicals. They are nothing but chemicals. That being said, the less technical use of the word is referring to substances produced by unnatural synthesis or at least unnatural methods to concentrate, extract, purify. eg formaldehyde is found in food like apples but you would never encounter a jar of formaldehyde in nature. We use it to embalm corpses and it can be considered quite unsafe but it's still edible in apples. The colloquial use of the word chemicals would apply to the jar of mortician's preservative but not to the apple.

Last Christmas I got into making eggnog. Usually nutmeg is sprinkled on the top. But I loved the taste so much that I started adding more and more to the eggnog. One evening after consuming quite a bit I went to sleep. Later out of my mind I woke up on the floor, unable to get up and unable to stop vomiting. I threw up and threw up and threw up and finally felt better. Then I looked up nutmeg and found out that you could poison yourself with it. Who knew? Fortunately I ended up OK and recovered fully. But that was one miserable experience.

I remember my battle with Stage 1 Brain Cancer and I remember getting Hydrocephalus. My brain was so damaged at that time that I tripped balls. It still haunts me so much to this day that I frequently relive the nightmares we’ve been through. It was not a fun experience and I don’t recommend it. Don’t OD your bodies on Nutmeg, people. Nor any other chemical which causes hallucinations. It’s not fun to experience being at the mercy of your own mind at all.

Nothing happened because eating one apple will not change a bad diet and it was a marketing tactic the apple industry invented in the early 20th century when they weren't selling much apples. "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" was just a marketing ploy just like in the 50's when the bacon industry was going down so they invented the the marketing slogan "bacon and eggs, a real American breakfast", and so because when TV had just come out everyone believed what was said on it like it was gospel, and soon after people were brainwashed into thinking bacon and eggs were actually good for you and it became a thing, still to this day. Apples however are good for you...though not enough to ward off disease

Bro, my mind is blown by these videos. Blown by how our body is so complicated and has even adapted to how physics and chemical reactions (like water being drawn to sodium) naturally occur and is able to use those functions in its process of working, also blown by how durable and resilient our body is despite being a perfect balancing act of chemicals, and then really blown by how these doctors are able to understand, diagnose, and effectively treat something like this like how they have that good of an understanding of the body they can manipulate it on the spot. Crazy, awesome video

It only takes 2 teaspoons or 5 grams of nutmeg to suffer the affects. This is probably why recipes only usually call for a small amount, 1/2 or 1/4 tsp, mixed among a large amount of other ingredients. Causing the nutmeg amount to be even more insignificant.

Way back when I was a dumb young teenager I did my fair share of 'experimenting', including a round with nutmeg. I was very meticulous and took what would have been the ideal dose for my bodyweight, which I won't describe in detail as to not perpetuate such foolishness. Honestly I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, I remained fully lucid and had my faculties about me, but the best way I can describe it is that reality was water. Everything rippled and waved, every footstep was as though I was walking on top of the ocean and the ground rippled about me. That lasted for something like 2 1/2 days! Honestly I would have done it again, but good lord ingesting large amounts of nutmeg is absolutely brutal. I struggled to get it down the first time and had absolutely no desire to ever consume it in such a fashion again.

just a clarification on myristicin getting metabolized to meth, it is not being metabolized to methamphetamine, instead it is metabolized into compounds structurally related to MDMA, as the pair of oxygens on the left side of the myristicin molecule, and therefore it's metabolites, are called a "methylenedioxy" group (afaik) which is what the "MD" stands for in MDMA, this makes the metabolites have mainly some mixed serotonergic effects compared to methamphetamine that strongly effects adrenaline and dopamine levels

The difference is synthesized chemicals vs natural occurring chemicals. Of course not all natural is good it may kill you but we see far more issues with man made chemicals than naturally occurring. And we have 12000 yrs of civilized history. Someone had to eat the mushroom so we know not to eat that one. Big pharma puts out tons of toxic chemicals for us and we see far more issues from food additives and other man made chemicals than we do in nature. Monsanto destroying the earth by stripping the land of all nutrients and creating toxic vegetables for us to eat. Good times.
@HangOutwithMalorn
@HangOutwithMalorn 4 жыл бұрын
@@vikinglife6316 This isn't even remotely how that works. You may notice that overall lifespans have improved in the last hundred years. This is partly because of the chemicals we add to foods. Kill the bugs that could crawl all over your food and you limit infectious diseases. Add preservatives to these foods and, again, you limit infectious diseases. You talk about how "all natural" diets are the best option but seemingly don't understand that "natural" still implies nature. Nature implies evolution within plants and animals. Evolution implies defense mechanisms to avoid being eaten. Many plants contain harmful chemicals within. Apple seeds contain cyanide but you'd have to eat thousands of them for them to take any affect. This same logic applies to the chemicals found within your processed foods. The levels of these chemicals are so low that they have very little effects on the body. Any damage done is almost immediately repaired by your cells. You're so convinced that companies selling natural products are actually looking out for your health when the reality is that they are currently operating a multi-billion dollar business and, just like every other company, usually fund their own "research" and "studies." The reality is that the chemicals we find in processed foods are specifically tailored to provide the best quality in regards to the prevention of disease. Most of the processed products that have been labelled "carcinogenic" by the natural community are only carcinogenic in Extremely High Quantities. It's the difference between having one can of Bud Light and chugging a whole mason jar of Everclear. The "natural" only community is absolutely no stranger to twisting the facts in their favor. Modern medicine and modern "lifestyle" changes(housing, cars, clothing) are just one piece of human life-extension. Ridding our foods of possible disease is still necessary and the most efficient methods of doing this are made in labs. What takes nature hundreds of thousands of years takes humanity 5.

rupam banerjee A common house-spice used for many different baked goods and originally native to the Indonesian microcosm. Ostensibly, also has the potential (with sufficient dosage) to be used as a “recreational” acutely potent deliriant - however, it’s more-so commonly abused by 14 year old edgelords looking to get a quick high when absolutely no other psychoactive substances can be sourced and so, these geniuses will instead sift through their mother’s spice cabinets at wee hours of the night before spending the next two days/nights wondering where they went wrong in life whilst having conversations with shadow people.

iskandertime747 I wish there were some sort of guide about possible reactions of natural ingredients in the body... like how grapefruit can prevent the liver from metabolizing certain substances, causing elevated levels in the blood, or how milk decreases the absorption of tea flavonoids, or how taking too much turmeric can be bad for the kidneys due to the amount of oxalates it contains.

It's fascinating that arrays of chemical bonds turn one thing into another. C55 H104 O6 is human fat when metabolized we breathe most of it out as CO2 thought you may find that as interesting as I did.

So true. Also, people think that everything "natural" is safe and anything "chemical" aka synthetic is bad. It would be great if this was taught during some phase of primary education. I tell people that chemicals do what they do. It's not bad or it's not good. Chemicals are neutral.

@@somedudeinatunnel3102 Yea. A certain rare chemical in a dog that can be found in 1 out of 100 of them is very protective of invasive germs. So pretty much it got into someone blood stream and preceeded to eat them out. Yea a guy lost his limbs and nose because of this. Fucked up lottery

Frosty Wasp Frosty Wasp Chemical? You mean a *bacteria.* There is no rare chemical that dogs produce that transfers to humans, the only thing that can pass from humans and animals is a virus, bacteria, and parasites. Stop lying, I’ve *read* the story so I know what your talking about, also in all my years studying to be a vet, I’ve never heard of a chemical that passes from a dog to human that’s invasive. Wanna know why, it doesn’t exist, *anywhere.* Chemicals don’t function like that, bacteria do.
Be kind🤝
