If not RL-3, why not Fawkes? Literally can take a nuke and survive. And i think like how one comment suggested, it sort of fitting that a super mutant would do it as the purifier was meant to wipe out their kind.

That's like having a metal dome in your hand that can prevent a live frag grenade's explosion from harming anyone in the room and then decide that it would be cowardly to use the tool provided to you and instead just use your body to shield everyone from the explosion.

Ron Perlman wasn't available to record a "Luckily he wisened up and sent the bot in to do it" slide, so what you get is what you would originally get if you sent in Sarah Lyons, who (in the original ending) dies in your stead, which IS pretty cowardly (letting one of your comrades in arms die for you).

RL-3 should have exited the airlock at the end, irradiating everyone with lethal doses of radiation. "Why is everyone clutching their chest and falling over? Oh, right, my metal chassis absorbs neutrons. Sorry about that."

I feel like you misunderstand Super mutants and ghouls. Super mutants are completely immune to radiation, which is why they create more super mutants in vault 88. The radiation serves as a shield. Its also why you free fawkes, so he can grab you the geck from the heavily irradiated area it dwells in. As for ghouls, its stated in loading screens and gameplay that ghouls are actually healed by radiation.

@@G_Nok Electronics Are pretty susceptible to radiation damage. That's because semiconductors and transistors rely on their molecular structure that has few extra or missing electrons in it to transmit current. More particles coming in in the form of radiation and ionizing the semiconductors causes them to not let electricity trough when they should, or to let power through when they shouldn't. This damage is permanent, accumulates over time across the entire device, and is pretty much impossible to repair. This is why spacecraft electronics for example have to be extra radiation shielded, just to survive the background radiation of space. In Fallout universe, semiconductors are not as common, and a lot of electronics use vacuum tubes instead of transistors. (vacuum tubes can fulfill the same role, but are not used anymore because they are more fragile, less efficient and can't be made quite as small, they still have applications, but they are pretty ratre). This is presumably why electronics in Fallout universe deal much better with radiation than real world electronics. However, more advanced electronics in fallout universe still use transistors in them, so it's hard to tell how much a Mr. handy would be affected. Also depends on how much his casing works as radiation shielding. I think they are powered by mini-nuclear reactors like almost everything else, so presumably it'd have a pretty good shielding around its radiation vulnerable parts.

@@G_Nok ​ @Glace Nok They indeed have. A vacuum tube is usually just made out of conductive materials, they don't require them to have special properties like semiconductors do. If you slightly change the composition of a copper plate, it will still conduct electricity in nearly the same way. Meanwhile semiconductors rely on minuscule amounts of other materials mixed into pure materials (usually silicon) to function. The ratio tends to be about 1 mix-in atom per 10 million atoms of the main material. You can see how that precise mix can be pretty easily disrupted enough to change the semiconductor's properties. As for audio...well, vacuum tubes are mostly much worse in most aspects when compared to semiconductors. They eat up power like crazy, they are big, fragile, they break much quicker because one of their parts has to be slightly-glowing-hot to function (in some ways they are a bit like weirdly modified lightbulbs), and have worse electrical properties. But the funny thing with sounds is that often introducing an element of randomness, and 'faults' to a sound can make it sound more natural and pleasant, since naturally produced sounds are very 'dirty' like that. That is what probably plays into vacuum tube's favour there, when compared to semiconductor's more 'perfect' performance.

I really can't take seriously any of Fo3 companions. They are just too beige for me. Nothing special at all. Also karma requirements for most of them are kind of a turn off. Curse Fo4 all you want, but you have to admit one thing. They did fantastic job on followers. Cait is my favorite with Nick close second.

That is a good question. Though this is the same universe where they can build and repair VSTOL aircraft, enhance humans via cybernetics, but the best houses they can build are tin shacks.

Not a fanboy, but Fallout 3 gets a little boring after a while with how little quests there are and all the useless dungeons. At least there's less bugs and game freezes.

Yup. And originally (without any DLC) I think the radiation-immune companions even completely refused to do it and told you to kill yourself for "destiny" or some nonsense.
