(NOTE:Before Adjusting the Valve Clearance,the piston should be at Top Dead centre so that both the tappet should be free for adjustment. Always adjust the Valve Clearance in cold state. )
Every object tends to expand with the increase in temperature and hence the valve of your Motorcycle/Scooter and cars.So it is very very important to provide a small clearance for the expansion of valves.Every Vehicle has its own clearance value for Input and exhaust valve(Exhaust valve value is greater than input valve).There are many drawback of having low or high valve clearance. If clearance is high,there will be irritating tappet noise from the Engine on the other hand if the valve clearance is low then it will lead to leakage from valves. so it's always best to adjust the valve clearance by using the feeler gauge. Once the valve clearance is adjusted accurately then there will be no tappet noise .

I have seen local mechanics didnt use this scale...but I have a honda stunner bike and my authorised service centre is das honda at kolkata and they use this tool...though I didnt know before today what was that, just I have seen them to do something with this...but now I have learned of it...Thank you boss... every vehocle owner should know a littlle about there vehicles...Thanks a lot

For all those additional doubts/concerns: The bike shown in this video is Hero Honda/ Hero HUNK with Honda's CBF150 engine (Gem of an engine) which is same across HUNK/CBZ/ACHIEVER/UNICORN.Valve clearance values for this engine are exhaust (0.12)mm and inlet (0.08)mm. Feeler gauge with 0.12 blade is little hard to find, as most of the sets have 0.13 blade. And valve timing to be set to TOP DEAD CENTER (TDC at compression stroke or second stroke in any 4 stroke engine). There will be some marking on the timing chain sprocket and on the magnet. SRG ( Self Repair Guruji) , is doing a fabulous job by bringing all such detailed experience sharing. Kindly encourage.

Its the same CBF150 engine on the CB Trigger aswell, hence the valve clearance values should be same/identical.

Meri xtreme sports me bhi yhi awaj aati thi. Service centre वालों से theek nhi hui. Bahar के mechanic ने ek do service me set kri jiske baad engine एक dm smooth chalta tha lekin baad me ye bolkar के itti jldi loose ni honi chahiye kuch problem h engine me engine ka head khol diya or 1000-2000rs. Bnane के chakkar me kuch parts change kr diye. tb se engine की ma behen हो gyi h. Gadi chalane me mja nhi aata

Bajaj Pulsar 135 LS 2017 Model Intake: 0.05mm, Exhaust: 0.10mm And please make sure that piston is at TDC, T should be visible on top on timing gear sprocket and T should also be visible on magnet flywheel, you can see that through small opening which is covered by a nut or sometimes has a clear glass window. And your engine should be cold (left off for 12 hours or more) before you do this setting. This is something I would never get it done from any mechanic because I can do it myself and they don't do it properly, it is very easy, thanks to this video and many others on KZfaq!

my honda xr 150L intake tappet valve clearance is .08mm and exhaust is .12mm(standard).. i brought it back to my dealer for a tune up at 12k km odo. they adjust the intake to 0.10mm and ex 0.12mm . anny disadvantage for not following the standard clearance?

@Techy solo Cutz one of the causes for over heat is over tighten exhaust valve, which cause the exhaust gas to leak in the head area and ultimately cause engine heat. I will advise to check the valve clearance by using a proper feeler gauge of 0.18mm for exhaust and 0.8mm for intake.

Dear Abhishek ji, It is always been pleasure to watch your in depth detailed videos. I have a Hero Honda splendor 2009 in great condition. But facing a 2 problems. One problem is when I put Ist gear it makes a 'KAT' sound but runs OK Second is it makes some whistle sound when it reaches 30 KMPH. Please make a video for the same also. Regards, Hitesh

please could you tell me the clearance value of inlet and exhaust valves of bajaj V15 (2016) , I have inquired the same from bajaj authorized dealers which they are not ready to share, even the workshop manual . the reason is my bike getting very hot & noisy after a short run of 5 km and above

Sir is it necessary to change valve tapets while filling and threading the sparkplug. My engines spark threads has gone and it already has been oversized. My mechanic has advised to change valve tapets and grinding too

bro i have a cbr250r 2011 std...it gives stalls n fuel lags frm the last 1mnth...day before yesterday...i gave to the honda service centre....they said to replace the valves....but give me a clarity....does this pblm comes with valve clearences only....!!! my rpm is about to be at 1500 at start...but max it downs to 1000 and engine cuts....is this a valve clearance issue???? give me rply...!!!! Also tappet setting should be done at room temperature, that is when engine is cold.

You can not do settings when engine is running or hot. So we have to wait till engine is cold or slightly warm to touch.

bro i have decarbonized my engine head and changed both valves, also cleaned carburator. but now iam not getting mileage. there is no sound from engine and it starts and runs smoothly the only issue is iam not getting mileage as i used to get. the mechanic have even tuned the carburator. i dont know whats the issue. pls help. honda unicorn 2013. 45000+ kilometrs. current mileage is like 38 km below . i used to get around 50 before. pls answer if u know.

Hi brother. My bike Gixxer 155 is making less back pressure and also making less torque compared to stock condition. Do you think more/less Valve Clearance could be the issue?? Once local mechanic fiddled with the Valves when bike was given for tappet noise complaint. I think he messed up. Service center people say everything is fine without listening seriously.
