In this video I am discussing AEG power tools in NZ and Australia after 7 years use (ridgid powertools brand) . AEG have some tools that I love, but also that I hate and wanted to take the time to have a quick overview of the tools whilst I discuss what I'm going to do next. These tools have all been purchased by myself, for use in the trades initially and now more so as a hobbyist maker /DIYer. There is always going to be a lot of discussion regarding powertools and especially brands on different battery platforms, and although I intend to move away from AEG and onto another platform, I'm not adverse to coming back if they release a tool that I need, but at this stage they seem to have gone dormant, at least from a hobbyis / DIYER perspective.
In this video I do a quick tool review on amongst others;
AEG Backpack sprayer ABS1858B
AEG 18ga Brushless Brad Nailer 18v A18FCN18GANZ0
AEG 18v worksite blower / inflator GM18EX2-0
There's more that have been since discontinued by AEG
Thank you for watching this video, let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

I have aeg inflator, line trimmer, 3 use drill, rotary hammer drill, chainsaw, 3 panel lamp, impact driver , grinder, multi tool etc etc. I cannot kill these bloody things no matter what I do to em. Some batteries over 9 years old and going strong. So no complaints here.

Im and Electrcian and i bought my first AEG drill in 2005 back when they were blue and made in Germany, they havent changed the 18V battery connections and all the new batteries fit my old blue, i use it daily and it just keeps goung and goung! Ive also got a heap of Orange AEG and i never ever have a problem with any of them! Ny favourite is my Sub Compact driver because i am constantly working with my hands above my head. Theyre absolutely fantastic tools!

I’ve been on the AEG platform for about 2 years with about 20 building and landscaping tools and I’m really happy with them. I disagree with your thumbnail and would recommend ppl buy AEG. I thought your break down was pretty good though. Some of those tools you have, that’ve been discontinued, have new improved versions. Like the impact driver now is excellent, with 3 speeds and 3 functions. I haven’t used festool or high end brands to give a comparison, but I’ve used plenty of cheap tools and AEG are much better than any cheap tools. I’ve used other trade tools and I think AEG are on par with them. I also agree Mikita would probably be my next choice, but they are more expensive. I’ve had one bad experience with the AEG framing nailer not having enough grunt for native timber, but after returning it a couple of times, Bunnings gave me a full refund. I’ve stuck with a compressor nailer. I don’t think battery nailers a as good yet. If you look at AEG combo deals, and can wait for good redemption deals, their pricing is better than other trade brands.

HI Sam I've only been a makita junkie great tools up until about four years ago a tool shop I was in had a special offer on the bosch 12v drill, impact driver two batteries charger a an extra battery by redemption which I received three weeks later. Fantastic tools I use them every day at work no problems at all very powerful and light. I now have a couple of the 18v range as well very pleased with those too. Good luck with your tool hunting Christmas not far away all the best. Steve

Interesting review. I have a mess of different tools, mostly that plug into the wall but too good to replace. I am tempted to follow a brand though just so one battery fits all. I've lost count of the number of expensive drills I had to junk because replacement batteries cost nearly as much as a new drill!

The range did go through a heap of changes, non brushless are back and cheaper then they use. They have also added more tools to the range which some had taken away, there is a heap of new tools coming in both the 18v and 56V ranges.

I've been Makita since day 1, and they have an awesome range. A few flops, and a few notable absences, but you get the feeling they are constantly innovating and releasing new gear. No regrets.

I have enjoyed my AEG tools and lucky enough to get the good tools as they came out - multi, drills, circular saw, blower (garden) etc and they are bullet proof. The batteries are not so good. Just outlast the warranty. Now that I have said it, I hope the tools continue to last and remain reliable. I also like the additions to the garden range - trim saw, hedge trimmer etc. I was looking at buying the torch and although it’s an upgrade to the one you showed, the service and/or knowledge of the tools in Bunnings is hopeless. Hence I jumped on line and found your clip. Appreciate your perspective and broad experience with AEG.

I was Ryobi, then needed a framing nailer and AEG had a great deal with a redemption of a Brad nailer. I then proceeded to buy a circ saw, grinder and recip saw then I found out they were made by Techtronic Industries (ryobi) and it all makes sense now. I am also on the hunt for my next option, Makita and Dewalt are leaders, Milwaukee has the range and innovation, but is made by techtronic industries, so is just red ryobi.

Just because they they are both owned by TTI doesn't mean they are the same quality ... That is like saying Stanley and Black & Decker are the same as DeWalt ... because they are the same company... which they are not... They are made at different factories and to different standards and quality. Though Ryobi, AEG and Milwaukee owned by TTI they are made at different factories to different standards are are targeted at different markets; Ryobi: Target your DIYer weekend warrior. AEG: Prosumer serious DIY and many professionals trades use the brand. Milwaukee: Professional trade. Many company use to have different colours of the tools ie; Bosch Blue and Green range, same with Makita one is their professional range the targeted for the DIY weekend warrior... and it would have cheaper parts, or less grease or oil in the bearings, not as many features... not quite built to the same standard etc so the can sell it cheaper for the DIYer etc now they corporations buy up other companies to cover their market, ie; TTI with Ryobi, AEG and Milwaukee have cover all 3 markets...

In the US had em for years they offer LSA lifetime service agreement for us it's good with the batteries as long as you don't abuse the batteies dye they'll give you news ones for life use to be only if they came in a kit now I think everything is LSA ready except for the few tools that are made by Delta for Ridgid we are finally getting outdoor power equipment rebranded from AEG to Ridgid for the us market

Hope the AEG Aus / NZ management team is looking at this. Very valid point about range and discontinuing of tools (especially the good ones) and also the 12V range. Also takes ages for the Ridgid tools in the US to come here. Being sandwiched between Milwaukee and Ryobi doesn't help them, as the TTI management doesn't like AEG to be better than Milwaukee. Great to see them expanding to TKD ( in Australia) and their onsite teams are great.

I got the 9 piece kit with 2 batterys, charger and a bonus tool for just over 2 grand a few years ago.. the new drills are really, really good on par with Makita in fact there is a video test on KZfaq of the drill beating makita lxt in every category. Im really happy with all of the tools in the kit EXCEPT the skill saw. Its heavy, needlessly bulky especially the handle, and its actually really weak. I used makita for 8 years company provided, when i left i had to get my own and the 5 piece makita kit was more expensive than the 9+ bonus kit from aeg. Makita have them beat on range though thats for sure but still No regrets

That AEG Omni was such a great tool, pity they have discontinued it, also have to agree about that vacuum - it was terrible. The problem with AEG is that it was always stuck in the middle of TTIs other brands Milwaukee and Ryobi and had to have performance between the other brands ranges, you could see where they could make small changes to tools but then it would over shadow the Milwaukee gear. After looking at some of the current lineup I can see what people are saying about the prices, they are very close to what you would pay for Bosch now.

interesting... I'm about ( x years) behind you Sam, just starting on my DIY adventure. I've got a handful of tools - Makita Angle Grinder, couple of Ryobi sanders and other things, a Bosch (green 12v) drill - but recently I've needed better and newer power tools.... I'm a bit of a geek and so researched the shit out of it before I made my decision on the brand / battery platform ... and... I went AEG - because..... a) Ryobi has range but not the grunt or longevity (in talking to the Ryobi / AEG Sales rep) b) Milwaukee and Makita were too expensive c) deWalt was completely dissed by some pro tradie friends of mine as a jumped up Stanley.... and i didn't see anything better in the Bosch 18v with the reviews i read, and in fact the reviews (mostly USA) rate Ridgid highly... So i went AEG because the battery platform has enough variation for what I need right now.... building decks, cutting and fixing timber under raised decking, I want to build some steps too.... So i bought the box with the Fusion 165mm circular saw, the impact driver and the hammer drill (220nm and 90nm) - all brushless.... spent the weekend using them and I have to say the quality is great and they do the job for me 100%. already planning a few more..... i guess time will tell if the range is good and the longevity is there. thanks for the review - from AKL!

AEG isn't an overseas brand of Rigid. Rigid is an American brand that rebrands AEG under licence using AEG's colour scheme. They have their own Rigid brand tools with a red colour scheme. Outside of the north American markets it is AEG.

Nice review. Just a note for Australia, we can also get AEG 18v and 58v ranges from tool shops here aswell. Also can order from AEG and they'll drive out to deliver the stuff. Bunnings is stocking less here though which sucks.

Oh and brand wise I've got 4 brands here in 18v and corded, and slowly supplementing the aeg 58v with ego garden tools (dual blade mowers). As you have found the range isn't large enough and a few things can be found better from other brands. My metal working stuff is generally bosch and wood working is dewalt. I still have a single ryobi tool (a 12 year old drill) that i use more than my makita or dewalt drills because the ryobi 18v never dies. Use it in the middle of a storm and it's being saturated and it still keeps on chugging along.

Ive been with AEG 18v for well over 10 years. Got Drill driver, rotary hammer, impact driver, grinder, recripro saw, the better tourch, wipper snipper, and chain saw. Ive had to replace all of them at least once and gone through at least 20 batteries. They used to be at a good price point of value and quality while they were building their customer base but they are clearly in the harvest stage of the product here in Australia where Bunnings is the only place where you can buy from. Their Battery pricing particularly gives me the shits. The problem with all these Battery power tool brands is the way they are brought and sold by the same big players who sell a plethora of different consumer goods and change their marketing strategies to fleece you way to often. Im going full Makita over the next year and gunna sell all the AEG stuff.

You talk about Rigid having such a great range, but Rigid, Ryobi, AEG & Milwaukee power tools (along with other brands) are made in Hong Kong (China anyway) by Techtronic Industries but I think you'll find not all Rigid tools like your hand tools, come under the power tool manufacturing. Maybe I'm wrong

Can you be clear about what AEG tools you were using? there are 3 different tool lines for different grade tools, that are targetted for different levels of use. Handyman grade is their non brushless (Comparable with Ryobi, Milwaukee M12), Professional grade is Force (Comparable with Milwaukee M18), Construction grade is Fusion (Comparable with Makita XLR, Dewalt XR, Festools) If you try to use their non brushless (cheapest of their range) to do anything besides handyman or home enthusiast, they will struggle. Buy the right tools for the job you need to use it for.

Another late comment here. Bunnings are not doing AEG any favours. When the original batteries on my 14.4V batt/hammer drill died after 13 months ofdiy duties, they didn't want to know despite the Consumer Guarantee Act. Fortunately when i contacted to NZ service agent to ask them to look at it they admitted a defect with the original batteries and replaced them both with larger capacity ones under warranty. Why couldnt Bunnings have done that? Would have been no skin off their nose. That drill is still going fine although the 14.4V platform didn't last 5 minutes.

Bit of a late commenter but hopefully some people see this. I've been using AEG for a long time now but only recently (a year ago) bought a full 18v kit and they are now turning into absolute garbage. Every chuck I've used on an aeg drill is garbage, their batteries already randomly fall out after less than a year of mild use, I've had led lights just stop working, battery terminals wearing through, gearboxes breaking amongst a bunch of other design flaws. Remember this is less than a year's use. DO NOT BUY AEG TO SAVE A COUPLE OF DOLLARS.

I’m a huge AEG fan, have over 25skins and 10 batteries though when I I look at what rigid US gets and AEG Europe I am so disappointed in AEG Australia. The news from them is far and few between, never know when anything is coming or if at all. After 12 months I couldn’t be happier with the tools I have though I’m starting to regret going AEG due to lack of range and lack of news on upcoming stuff. I was actively encouraging people to go AEG now I tell them don’t bother, it’s a Fad and you’ll get over it.

AEG are the best value for money they are very similar built to Milwaukee, they ome from the same factory.. Compared to all the other brands they are cheap you can get double compared to amount of tools you get from any of the othe rbig brands. The only thing that I have an issue with is their range. Other than that they have the most aggressive promotions and giveaways absolutely crazy
