Notice, when Sarris is shooting up the bridge, Guy is the only one NOT shot... Also, here's a quote from Patrick Stewart: "I had originally not wanted to see [Galaxy Quest] because I heard that it was making fun of Star Trek and then Jonathan Frakes rang me up and said ‘You must not miss this movie! See it on a Saturday night in a full theatre.’ And I did and of course I found it was brilliant. Brilliant. No one laughed louder or longer in the cinema than I did, but the idea that the ship was saved and all of our heroes in that movie were saved simply by the fact that there were fans who did understand the scientific principles on which the ship worked was absolutely wonderful. And it was both funny and also touching in that it paid tribute to the dedication of these fans.'

Weaver actually isn't just repeating the computer. She does it out of habit, but she doesn't really have to. However, since the Thermians didn't understand how pathetic her role on the show was, what we actually see happen in the movie is that the computer won't really accept commands from anyone BUT her. Every time Tim tries to ask it something, it just ignores him. It only responds to HER requests and inquiries. Because that was the Thermians' interpretation of her job on the show. They thought she was repeating the computer because she was the one in charge of the computer...not because the producers just made something up as an excuse to get a hot chick on the show. She just does the repeating bit because she's used to it...it's a deeply ingrained habit. But she's actually quite important if they want to get anything done, because they can't fully use the computer without her. I wish they'd shown more examples, but it works as it is.

I hold Rickman's performance in this movie as a great example of acting, specifically for how he delivers three variations of his character's tag line. There's the one from the original show, which is as cheesy as you'd expect from an old sci-fi show. There's the one from the store opening, which just drips with apathy and derision. And then there's the final delivery, which handles with such gravitas that it rips your heart out. Phenomenal.

It's worth remembering that in the 70s/80's, heck even up to about the 2010's, there was only one fandom in existence: Trekkies. Nobody else was dressing up as their favorite characters, going to conventions, writing fanfic (distributed as fanzines back then) or any of the things that tons of now do today. And this was way back when nerds were really looked down on by the rest of society, so it took some bravery. Hell, SNL even had a sketch where William Shatner lays into them for caring too much about an old TV show. The fact that they were able to reboot it into a film franchise so many years after it ended (reboots weren't popular back then), and then use that franchise to launch more television shows so that it continues to this day, is remarkable, and it's 100% because Trekkies basically invented fandom as we know it. The guy who played Mathezar (Enrico Colantoni) had been auditioning for the role and it wasn't going great, so he said "let me try one more thing, it might be kind of crazy" and right then and there basically invented everything about how Thermians act. All the other actors playing Thermians were told by the director, "just do whatever Enrico's doing." Speaking of space comedies with loaded casts, you should check out "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy" some time.

Fun Facts: the entire bridge set was built on gimbals, so it really did tilt & shake during certain scenes. Sam Rockwell's scream was not scripted. if you watch carefully, Sigourney Weaver nearly jumps out of her skin in surprise. Kudos on noticing the fact that Tech Sargent Chen was stoned the entire movie. Most folks miss thatl Weaver had a nice reference to Aliens: "Ducts! Why is it always ducts!?" I'll skip all the references, but the whole costume thing was real. Female crew had to wear those miniskirts on the original series, and on Voyager Jeri Ryan played Seven of Six, who was usually dressed in skin tight catsuits. The reason Gwen's bra was visible has to do with a hilarious deleted scene that was a little too adult for the more kid-friendly rating. The other deleted scenes are also good. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b8hkpph0y7aoZI0.html

Like the the main female character essentially just being there for fanservice while stating the obvious, (just like Dianna Troi started off as on TNG because Gene Roddenberry was bit of a pervert), the ego of the lead, an actor who put a lot of effort into the character he was playing but came to resent it due to the overexcited fans hounding him. and a very clearly non-Asian guy playing someone named Chen. The shows this film parody's/celebrates may have been lauded for their progressive and dramatic stories but that doesn't mean they didn't stumble in the execution at times.

The bathroom bit actually happened to William Shatner. Alan Rickman didn't want to do this because he didn't like outter space Sci-Fi, but when he read the script he couldn't resist.

Obviously the script was really good. How else could they have gotten Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman and even Tim Allen? Justin Long was unknown, Sam Rockwell practically unknown. You also see a young Rainn Wilson here. I think the cast was having a blast making this movie. They were really committed to their roles.

The doc is nearly as good as the film also, if you have not yet look up Alan Rickman tea slow motion. Its gold.

If you like Alan and haven't seen Dogma, its a must. Also I hope you guys do Moon Knight.

It took me a full minute to realize bearded guy is probably Ryker. Edit: just finished watching your reaction and just saying that it’s cool to see people appreciate the movie and what it was doing.

It was originally rated R and it got cut down to a PG to make it more family friendly for its Christmas release. If you look closely at Sigourneys mouth when she sees the chompers she clearly says "Fuck that" but it got dubbed over it. Also Sigourneys uniform gets unzipped because one of the cut scenes was her trying to seduce one of Sarris' men

It would've done way better as an R.

@@d3l3tes00n Shame the studio didn't agree with that sentiment.

@@crappleindusuries I think if it came out now, it'd be popular.. especially as an R. I've yet to see anyone who doesn't enjoy it.

I’m sure you know this but the documentary on galaxy quest gives the movie and all involved the makers and the actors complete salutes to the whole sci fi genres. You’ve got to watch this if you consider yourselves geeks.the Star Trek community give props to everybody in this movie and it’s movie making abilities. They loved it.

A most excellent reaction to a most excellent movie.

Love your reaction! I agree with Jessa that this movie is great as an all ages type movie but I LOVE the way it comes across with the "hidden" adult moments. Gwen's "screw this" and Fred being high are things that - if you know, you know. 😊

Fun fact: Tony Shalhoub’s character basically spends the entire movie stoned.
