You couldn't transport or store as much product, so you would have to make up for that with the fun factor or the ability to charge more. It definitely would amaze some of the folks there, but would they be willing to pay what it's worth?

Great idea but how much more do you have to sell to recoup the growing medium and growbag costs? Although you could give them the option of paying more for the whole thing or regular price and you cut the plant in front of them.

Probably regular price and cut in front of them would go better all around.

That's where I thought this was going. Fresh cut in front of the customer! Or you could sell the whole thing but you would be selling to a different target market than just selling the leaves.

Larry, I've searched through lots of your videos and still have a question. How high in a grow bag can we expect the water to wick? Obviously a 3 foot tall potato tower would not work, but what would be a reasonable expectation? By the way, I'm just now setting up my very first kiddie pool system and thankful for your inspiration.

GERAT IDEA!!! Do you know if your grow bags will work down here in central florida? (for lettuce) We can’t get tomatoes to grow for us at all. Maybe we are choosing the wrong variety.
@Hippiecat67
@Hippiecat67 6 жыл бұрын
We use shade cloth over our tomatoes to keep the sun from cooking them on the vine. Look for tomatoes that can take the heat. Cherry , Roma , Better girl, Celebrity and a few more that I can't remember right now. Go to a plant seller and ask what does good in your area. Not home depot or lowes because most of the people that work in the garden centers don't know much about plants, they just work there for the money and don't care.

We use to live in south, south Florida and always grew tomatoes and lettuce. Check with Tomato Growers in Fort Myers, FL. Larger tomatoes will not grow in the summer because of the heat. Cherry and grape tomatoes always did very good for us in the summer. One of the best resources is the IFAS program offered by the University of Florida-they have extension offices in all counties. They are a huge help when it comes to growing fruits and veggies in Florida!

How much more do you charge because of missing second cuts, soil cost, etc? Have you found that people are willing to pay the premium? Do you keep bags and these so they can choose? Just curious what you've seen work.

Chris P you could cut the lettuce in front of them or sell the Grow bag and plant then they can eat lettuce fresh for weeks definitely a huge benefit

Man! Jeeeeez.... You just made me feel dumb. What a GREAT idea! Sell the LIVE plants with a 'care card' for just a bit more and start selling out after the first week. ALL that harvesting and packaging expense just disappears. Again, GREAT idea.

It is not legal to sell live plants without a licsense in some states. Big fines.
@larrylhall
@larrylhall 6 жыл бұрын
neil glover most states are referring to ornamental and landscape plants however check with your local laws. You still have the opportunity to cut the lettuce head off in front of the customer so that they still get a much fresher product and they know when it was harvested!

I've tried it at my markets and most people would just rather have pre harvested bags because they are too lazy to harvest their own (even though it's the easiest thing in the world) and also, most people would kill a fake plant lol, their thumbs arent green. these reasons are why they buy stuff in the first place ha ha ha. silly people.

If you want your stand to "pop" you need an easy to setup tier system. Check out www.shirleyssimpleshelving.com it works as a stand or tabletop display and most importantly no tools assembly (setup in seconds) and 100% made in the USA.

That’s not cost-effective I’d be surprised if you made a profit. When I cut my lettuce the day before market that customer can keep the lettuce in the fridge for up to two weeks. Plus I bet the customers will probably just kill The plant from not watering it.
