Barry now prospering, new houses being built where the scrapyard was, large ASDA supermarket and a new road onto the Island. New beach huts and very clean and tidy beach. Vale of Glamorgan doing well to promote the area

When I visited the scrapyard in 1975 and again in 1976 there were still several "Modernisation Plan" mainline diesels there, albeit in very poor condition. I photographed N.B. D6122. These, like Dai's wagons were relatively easy to cut and it is tragic now that these early diesels were not saved. At the very least, they might have been outwardly restored and made good "scenery" on a heritage line.

The good old days playing down barry Scrapyard starting fires in the old steam trains bringing them back to life .
TBH It emotionally hurts me to see Steam Locomotives scrapped.

So is it true the owner only cut up wagons not the steamers
@theotherrailway83257 жыл бұрын
The owner cut steamers when he needed to but kept the remaining ones till people buy them. Tons were saved from scrap
@MsMariGaming7 жыл бұрын
+TheOtherRailway I think that happened when he ran out of the wagons

Goods Van Productions In 1980 the last two steamers were cut up. A 9F. &. a 45xx. 213 locos were saved. He preferred to cut up wagons as it was easier and more economical on cutting gases. A steamer is a lot of hard work to cut up
@helensipeli32417 жыл бұрын
they could of used a steam train locomotive not a diesel electric locomotive because if they used a steam train so the scraped ones didn't have to look at one of the locomotives that put them to their Misery.

Please, please, please, if your going to put your videos on KZfaq, try to film without constantly swinging the camera around and zooming in and out. It is not enjoyable! Many thanks and kind regards.
