Join us on this amazing experience which was another highlighted of our road trip to Tennessee, this vlog was filmed on November 11, 2022. We tour inside the Forbidden Caverns in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. They are located at 455 Blowing Cave Road, Sevierville, TN and is one of America's most amazing caves. It provides the visitor with an entertaining and educational 1 hour walking tour past sparkling formations, towering natural chimneys, numerous grottos, and a crystal clear stream that were formed thousands of years ago. The trails are well lighted with handrails at all necessary points.
The Forbidden Caverns were also the hiding spot for the Moonshiners. In the 1800s, the daring men who decided to produce whiskey outside the bounds of the law became known as “Moonshiners”. The name “Moonshine” is derived from the fact that the illicit alcohol was often secretly distilled during the night, in the mountains, under the light of the moon.
Making Moonshine became an important revenue stream for many farmers in the Smoky Mountain area. Extra corn (transformed into whiskey) was more valuable, simpler to move, and easier to sell and trade, a “liquid currency” of sorts! Farmers used the extra cash they made from selling Moonshine to provide for their families, pay their bills, and start new businesses. The Forbidden Caverns was one of the favorite spots for Moonshiners because of its remote location and reliable clean water supply (an underground lake). We got to see a replica of what the Moonshiners used during our tour of the Forbidden Caverns.
The ticket prices are $20 per adult, children 5-12 are $12 and children 4 and under are free. These prices are nothing compared to the amazing and unforgettable experience you will have. Enjoy our vlog! :)
