TNM's Binu Karunakaran tracked the journey of a migrant labourer from Odisha, Gaura Naik, working as a mason in Kochi, as he boarded a train from Ernakulam Town Railway Station on May 11 to his home village in Ganjam district. Odisha is witnessing simultaneous polls to the Lok Sabha and state assembly. But Gaura had other reasons too for his travel. The rains were coming and he wanted to attend to his farm. Gaura had been working in Kerala and the earnings he made helped him marry off two daughters and also construct a house but his heart remains tied to his roots in Hinjalikuda panchayat of Surada in Odisha. His journey on an unreserved compartment of the Kanyakumari-Dibrugarh Vivek Express, one of the longest train routes in India, was gruelling. This video captures the essence of his journey to participate in the democratic process and the dreams and aspirations of the migrant workers for better jobs back home and end to migration.

Great coverage! Hats off to well spoken locals of Surada block. More power to them. Odisha has everything except jobs for local ppl. You will find ppl from North India and Andhra Pradesh working in Odisha industries but local ppl are forced to migrate. Govt should look over this matter very seriously.

The speciality of Kerala is being a Hindu one worships at Majjid, Gurudwara or Church while Muslims worship everywhere barring Majjid and Christians are all busy in Temples. So that state is so much literate that they mostly get confused in Kerala and hence to come out of the confusion move to other states and countries to get their Intellect, behave normally. .
