This is by far the best video on whole youtube, period. All this new and unbelievable footage, placed so perfectly together that far exceedes any kind of "compilation". Not to take away anything from those videos, but this just captures the real, nonschalant spirit of grB. But I have one question, I hope some of you will have an answer. I was wondering what was the last stage that remained the fastest from group b era, and with what car? Nowhere did I managed to stumble upon a solid answer, and is valuable info. Bye all :)
@Marvdogger26 жыл бұрын
You sir are a gentleman and a scholar and your comment shall be pinned at the top for all to see!! Too answer your question. Finland is often described as the fastest rally in the world championship - and rightly so. However, the fastest average speed in an individual special stage was recorded in 1983 in Argentina. It took Stig Blomqvist just 25 minutes 48 seconds to complete the 81.5 kilometres of the ‘Fray Louis Beltran-Valle Azul’ special stage. That’s equivalent to an average speed of 189.53 km/h! That’s around 30 km/h below the potential top speed of his Audi quattro. The most fascinating thing of all is that Blomqvist didn’t even inspect the special stage beforehand. Due to lack of time, he drove using the notes he borrowed from his team colleague Hannu Mikkola. I think the fastest Group B car when it came down to just top speed was the Toyota Celica TCT when it did the Safari and Ivory coast's rallys. The stages are do long you could afford to have top speed over acceleration.
@grimm6jack6 жыл бұрын
In terms of acceleration the Lancia S4 was the quickest.

Agreed somehow you have constructed the video in a way that captures the era. Ff to minute 14 (don't you dare lol) and catch Marku Allen saying go like hell! turn up volume to max ....and hang on..
@s1mmelOne5 жыл бұрын
If you are talking about the era and not the rallys itself, I'd say that the Hillclimb of Pikes Peak in the USA was the last action of those awesome cars. Walter Röhrl drove up that "hill" in 10.47.08 minutes. The whole road is paved now and the record time up to date is 7:57,148 minutes. To me a legendary record and a car that was a firespitting monster driven on the brink of death by true geniuses. This video is in German but you can see the Audio S1 quattro E2 and a Peugeot in action pumping up to the moutain top. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mp6efsuZsrDYppc.html

The Group B 1986 lineup was absolutely legendary. Such a variety of cars. But what makes Group B truly special is what it COULD have been. Had Group B lasted another year before the events that claimed it took place, not only would the Ford RS200 build more of a name for itself, but Toyota would've entered the 222D, Porsche the 959, Peugeot the 405, Audi and Ferrari were running new prototypes, and the Mazda RX-7 rotary would've been further tweaked as well.
@Marvdogger25 жыл бұрын
Peugeot had already done enough work for a third evolution of its T16 and the Delta S4 would have had a year under its belt and the reliability problems Ironed out. 1987 would have been a great year.

@Andersng15 жыл бұрын
@@Diesel8290 No, modern rally cars have surprisingly little technology in them, but it wasn't always like that. Up until the mid 2000's WRC cars had few regulations regarding high-tech driving aids. Most cars had ABS, TC, active diffs and active dampers etc. From 2010 up until 2015 Rally cars were mostly mechanical. Since then a few changes in the rules has allowed certain things such as active center-differential and electronic gear shifting (paddle shift).

God, I got goosebumps watching this. I'm American, and nobody over here has ever heard of Group B, much less rally racing as a whole. I nearly had to go for some "me time" every time the 037 or the Delta poured on the sauce through a corner. It was great to see Walter Rohrl on camera too, as I have nothing but respect for the man. To hell with Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty. Rorhl to me is the greatest of drivers, and was a very modest man. I'm also unusual here, as I am obviously a HUGE Lancia fan. I'd have an 037 or Delta Integrale over a Ferrari any day of the week.

I've always been a road/track type of guy that has always been around track race cars, like my fathers drag car at the track. I didn't know rally was my passion until I went on a drive with my father (me driving) in our rhino ATV (fucking high as shit but whatever) on a very narrow trail with sand/mud/water/dirt/and rocks. I wanted to see what it was like going fast and doing four-wheel drifts off road at high speeds with jumps and just crazy scenario in general, so I floored it (cringe, didn't know another way of explaining it) the jumps and drops and satisfying controlled slides is what got me most, and got me wondering about the rally scene and ended up here. Thank you for making this video.

@@ILeelL Horrifically accurate, considering the "great again" is citing an era in which safety was a terrible joke and not an actual priority in any way. Also, modern WRC is a million times faster than Group B ever could be (for one, drivers don't spend that much time worrying about staying straight and not killing anyone), and the cars themselves probably share as much with their road-going counterparts as the Group B monstrosities did (safety aside, being a road car is kinda contrary to what a race car is).

Just found this post. Thank you so much a brilliant piece of work that brings back so many awesome memories of the RAC rally and the group B’s. I’ve spent many nights and days in Kielder setting up and marshalling stages for these guys and they were some of the best times. Top highlights have to be Malcom Wilson testing one of the first RS2000 on the Centurion rally, sitting on Michelle Moutons knee while doing time checks after a kielder stage and seeing Tony Pond putting the 6R4 through a 90 left on sheet ice in the middle of the night in Griezdale ..oh and never forget the sound of all those engines - and there is so much more to remember.
