Nirmalendu Chowdhury has done a lot of work in Bangla and Assamese lokgeeti in his lifetime. He was introduced to this world under the guidance of Abdul Majid and Abdur Rahim in Bangladesh. He learnt Rabindrasangeet from Ashokbijoy Raha in Shantiniketan. In Kolkata he started learning from Shri Suresh Chakraborty. He gets introduced to Hemanga Biswas after joining the Communist Party of India. He had left his mark not only in the country but also in the abroad. He won a gold medal for performing at a Lokgeeti event in Warsaw. He had performed in Moscow, Prague and many more. Nobo Robi Kiron is taking an initiative to pay their respects to this outstanding artist.
বাংলা ও আসাম এর লোকগীতি নিয়ে জীবদ্দশায় প্রচুর কাজ করে গেছেন নির্মলেন্দু চৌধুরী। বাংলার লোকগীতির দুই দিকপাল আব্দুল মজিদ ও আব্দুর রহিম এর কাছে বাংলাদেশ এ তাঁর লোকগীতিতে হাতেখড়ি। শান্তিনিকেতন এ অশোকবিজয় রাহার কাছে শেখেন রবীন্দ্রসংগীত। কলকাতায় এসে তালিম নেন শ্রী সুরেশ চক্রবর্তীর কাছে। কমিউনিস্ট পার্টির এক অন্যতম সদস্য হওয়ার জন্য হেমাঙ্গ বিশ্বাসের সঙ্গে পরিচয় হয় তাঁর।গানও গান হেমাঙ্গ বিশ্বাসের কথায়। দেশের বাইরে বিদেশেও তিনি পরিচিত নাম ছিলেন। Warsaw তে একটি আন্তর্জাতিক লোকগীতি সম্মেলনে গান গেয়ে সোনার মেডেল পান তিনি।মস্কো, প্রাগ ইত্যাদি শহরেও তিনি অনুষ্ঠান করেছেন। একাধারে সুরকার, গীতিকার এবং গায়ক সেই প্রতিভাবান মানুষটিকে শ্রদ্ধা জানাতে নব রবি কিরণের উদ্যোগে এই মাটির সুরের গানগুলি নিয়ে এসেছেন নবীন শিল্পীরা।
