I like how some of the cast members were really just blown away at how powerfully Cynthia Erivo sang this. She looks small but she's got a big voice. Good on them all for doing this, it was a really heart warming tribute.

Cynthia went to my secondary school. I used to help with stage production/make up. They would do 2/3night shows and she was amazing in every performance. She's just WOW!!!

Jennifer Hudson didn’t impress me what so ever, not saying she doesn’t have a voice because she does, she’s amazing, but she didn’t do it for me, the girl in yellow, she brought me to tears and brings out some serious emotions, the way she hit those notes, gives me goose bumps...Jennifer Hudson didn’t even know the song she needed a card to read the lyrics from, and she needed to add so much extra, the minute she started singing it went flat, she didn’t sing from the heart, the song doesn’t touch her soul, and you can tell, she didn’t sing purple rain, she just sang to show her vocal range.... I wanna see the girl in yellow sing the whole song through so I can cry

Wow this was so moving. That young girl who started singing at the beginning is a voice to be reckoned with. She has one of the best voices I have ever heard. She blew me away. And Jennifer is the bomb! Thank you for organizing this who thing and sharing with us such a wonderful tribute!!!

Towards the 4 minute mark Jennifer started feeling that thing and the rest is history the anointing on not just her but cynthia as well is ridiculous. Jennifer better be on the set list for the Prince tribute at the next award show or I will be hella upset

This first girl did her thing. She sings real good. They were smart to let her start out and then let J Hud come in. J Hud's voice is a force to be reckoned with.

Until seeing this tribute, I have been in shock. I am at the age where I grew up listening and watching Prince and Michael Jackson when he was part of the Jackson 5. I am also 57 years old. Until this moment watching this tribute, I have not been able to cry. Prince meant a lot symbolically to me for so many reasons. Thank you Jennifer and cast of The Color Purple. RIP Prince, those of us who were always your fans wish you a safe journey home. May the Lord forgive you for anything He finds you did lewd and raunchy while down here, (like those chaps you wore one time with your butt cheeks showing) and understand you were a free spirit here and will no doubt continue to be one UP There!

I have watched this video on numerous occasions and no matter how many times I watch it I keep getting chills. I wish they would do a studio recording of this song. I knew Jennifer had. a power house voice but Cynthia ErIvio matched her bar for bar. That lady can saaang!!!!!!
