Tim Hauser the man who originated Manhattan Transfer passed away last week at age 72. I'm a big fan of the group's smooth harmonies and swing. This medley features just some of their great music.
1) Choo Choo Ch' Boogie
2) Birdland
3) Route 66
4) Chanson D'Amour
5) SOS
6) Java Jive
7) Boy From New York City
8) The Shaker Song
9) Operator
10) Ray's Rockhouse

Nobody sings Chanson d amour like Janis. Beautiful voice. The Manhattan Transfer is the BEST! Always will be. So sorry Tim is gone. I was listening to them when lots of kids my age were into hard rock. I LOVE The MT. Always wanted to see them in person. Love to meet Janis, she's still beautiful. Lots of guys had crushes on her. 😁 still do.

Saw them here in San Diego either in 77 or 78, shortly after Cheryl came on board. They were great. Best group ever in every line up. Tim Hauser was a genius, and this group proves it every time they sing a note, with or without Tim. Rest well Tim / El Dorado Cadillac you are missed greatly.

I was working painting the floor of a soundstage for an Electric Light Orchestra video shoot and Manhattan Transfer was on the soundstage next door rehearsing for a tour. That night they gave a show for the record execs and their managers and I just sat in the back digging every sound they made. It was great. That was 1980..

Saw the Manhattan Transfer about 1980 at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, they were amazing in person. About 20 years ago Tim had a weekly radio show on Santa Monica public radio station KCRW, on which he played some of the hippest music you could find anywhere on the radio, along with his personal anecdotes. I'll sure miss his elegance and eloquence.

RIP Mr. Hauser your Masterpiece is in the best of hands. I had the pleasure of seeing of guys live 40 yrs. ago here in San Diego. Can't wait to see you 4 again some day, with the legends like Bird you sang about. It will be a hell a show, and regardless of whatever legendary geniuses share the stage with you, the show will be stolen and kept for the rest eternity by you, Janis, Alan, and Cheryl Manhattan Transfer. Rest well great sir.

If I have a 2nd life I would dream of singing in this group. The Manhattan Transfer is the best 4 part vocal group of all time in my opinion. I still listen and probably will continue to enjoy these perfectly in tune, difficult harmonies. You are all gifts and I'm very sorry you lost Tim.

Rosanette, I do agree that they're the best in their field. I saw them at the Clearwater Jazz Festival in the early 2000's - they were terrific! I still play them often and am so sorry about the loss of Tim Hauser. But, it's o.k. - he's up there with so many other greats that we've lost in recent years. I'm planning on seeing them when I make the great journey to heaven.

Man, what a life - singing with one of the greatest vocal groups of all time and making records that will easily stand time's test. Got to see him with the MT in Singapore a couple of years back - brilliant gig. Brilliant pre-gig workshop too for a wannabee but aging Bass vocalist like me. Glad to hear the MT will continue, but one of the greats has passed. Thank you Tim Hauser for some fantastic harmonies. Tone on!

Thank you oldiesfan1968. I enjoyed this very much. I was aboard the Jazz Cruise of 2014 in January of that year mainly because Manhattan Transfer was to perform several times during that cruise as it traveled from Lauderdale threw the Caribbean and back. What a GREAT TIME we had. I was lucky enough to have spotted Tim Hauser several times during the cruise 'off duty' and struck up a few conversations with him, (Great Guy) he was willing to talk. I told him I lived at Buckeye Lake (Ohio) very close to Newark, OH where Jon Hendricks had grown up, so we had a little conversation about Jon, and how he had been involved with Manhattan Transfer, and had performed the Jazz vocal Scat on their recording of "Rays Rock House' and how Jon was in the famous Vocal Jazz Trio from the 40s and 50s, ' Lambert, Hendricks & Ross ' that had invented the Jazz Tecnic of " Vocalese" that was used later by Manhattan Transfer and the title of one of their Albums. Tim was a fine man and loved to talk. I will always remember the conversations we had and the several performances Manhattan Transfer performed during that cruise. It is one of my favorite memories. RIP Tim.

I am a big fan of Manhattan Transfer. I found out about them after listening to take 6 first album and I knew that sounded familiar I wasn't sure what it was not think the song they were singing Back Then was you make me smile again after that point on I heard all the old stuff and then the new stuff Twilight Zone Nightingale sang in Berkeley Square spice of life and all the other great songs mystery so I am clearly after this is it take 6 I got it has continually to groove off the transfer sound there's nothing like if there's nothing is ever going to replace this is just a joy to have been caught up in the world of harmonious music

There is nothing like it and nothing coming. The Transfer were so good, we didn't really understand. We still do not. And, Bird, Duke, Rahsaan, so many, recede as some of us mourn. But, with modern methods of technology, we have something, and it is good.

OMG I am so jealous of you! Me and my mother, back when I was 16 yrs old, managed to secure front row seats to the group, and I had such a crush on Mr. Hauser. I must have stared at him, smiling, for a lengthy time, but suddenly he turned and looked me right in the eyes. Stared at me for a split second and gave me an epic wink... I am an old 47 now, but I will treasure that memory in my heart forever.... God Bless You Mr. Hauser ! See you again, on the other side.

He, Janis and Fiona (the wardrobe mistress back in the Carnegie Hall time) were all so very gracious to a starry-eyed fan. I was fortunate to be friends (and still am) with the opening act that night, Stormin' Norman and Suzy - so I got to go backstage before the show and meet all of them. You are right - the memories keep me warm even now - and that was back in the late '70s. I am SO glad that you had such a wonderful night and your own good memories!
