Feel better Amy, but please don’t think the doctor was being dramatic about getting IV antibiotics for a kidney infection because they can go quickly from a simple pyelonephritis to urosepsis to full blown septic shock rather quickly. I just got discharged from the hospital this afternoon for a kidney infection that was well on it’s way to full blown sepsis.

Just to add, I have gastroparesis also, but before I was diagnosed I was given forcival capsules and I can remember how massive they were, more like a suppository than a tablet really. I can remember when I could only manage to eat a very small evening meal and I would still have the sensation of being full right up until the middle of the afternoon of the next day, so for a long while, I thought that I was coping, as long as I only ate this small meal, just once a day, sometimes I would be unwell after, but usually as long as I stuck to the same kind of thing, and amount I would be ok. But I began to get very poorly, ulcers and sores around my mouth, was found to have severe malnutrition, as it’s impossible to get all the nutrition , vitamins and minerals from what I was having in that small meal.

Am so glad that you got checked out. I was visiting my Sister in Texas, and while out there, I began to feel a little back pain, at first, I thought maybe I had pulled a muscle or something, as I had no other symptoms, usually when I have had an infection before, I have found that it has burned when passing water. After a couple of days the back pain had got much much worse, and I began to get sweats and chills and began to feel very unwell, so my Sister ran me to the local emergency room.....bloods taken and urine tested, they said that the infection had gone right up into my kidneys, which is why, I did not feel the usual burning sensation, I was given a bag of intravenous antibiotics to kick start the treatment and 2 other lots of antibiotics and some other medication, which I must say began to work straight away, I had never had such a severe infection as this, and I think that as I am prone to infections, due to a low immune system, combined with being in a very hot humid climate, like Texas, I should have drank a lot more than I did drink, before the infection, I think that I was probably drinking, the same amount, as I usually would have drank, when back in England. So please make sure that you try and drink plenty when your in Australia

Feel better, Amy!! Praying that those antibiotics kick in and you don’t have to deal with the hospital. Seems like the last thing you need right now!!

The doctor was right in saying if it doesn’t improve in the next 24-48 hrs. I ended up with urosepsis from a kidney infection and in septic shock. If your temp increases go to A&E ASAP!

I currently have a severe kidney infection and was prescribed antibiotics at the hospital. Unfortunately even with my insurance, they are still way too expensive 😢. So I'm just drinking lots of cranberry juice and water. That's the only thing I can do

Hey hun I feel ur pain. I was taken to hospital with severe Pylonephyritis on the 1st of October had urosepsis with temps of 40°c hallucinating and projectile vomiting. I did the same as you...i had kidney pain for weeks and my catheter wasn't draining much at all but I kept convincing myself I was fine. I ended up ventilated in ITU under surgical cons as my CT showed that my kidney was swollen so much with pus pockets that it could rupture. I had 21 days of IV triple treatment antibiotics. I spent a further 5 days in HDU and then moved to surgical ward. I never thought even having CKD that things could become life threatening or to the point of surgery and my family being told I could lose my kidney but it did. I am home now but my left kidney still has pus pockets around it, I am doing 4 catheter flushes a day to flush out my bladder as still have WBC (neutrophils) casts that are coming from my kidney so they need to be flushed out to prevent further infection/damage. I just wanted to say I know that ppl with chronic illness and everyday pain are marters and we try plod through and manage our symptoms. I never thought I would end up in ITU facing more surgery fighting sepsis again. If the pain doesn't clear up and ur fevers increase get checked out. Hoping the oral antib's do the job tho.
