Meet Andy Isolano, NYFD Firefighter, Survivor & Hero of 9/11 Terrorist Attack.
Early in his life, Andy Isolano competed against the best of the best during his fire academy training. He worked hard enough to earn a position in one of the Manhattan fire departments. For the next few years, Andy loved his work and experienced many incredible tribulations. However, on September 11, 2001, Andy and many other first responders responded to the most unimaginable call. Andy and his department responded to the call of the attack on the twin towers and arrived on the scene just as the first tower collapsed. During that horrific tragedy, Andy lost 13 of his closest friends and witnessed many deaths right before his eyes. After that day, Andy spent months looking for his everyone and anyone he could find in the rubble, working tirelessly day in and day out. After a few months, Andy had sustained too must damage to his lungs that the fire department ended up medically retiring him in November of 2001.
Following the continual tragedies following the gruesome attack on our country, Andy suffered from the burden of grief and trauma that he endured for far too long. On this episode, Andy walks us through his struggles of grief and trauma but ultimately uses his experiences to provide hope and purpose for people who may be going through a similar journey. Presently, Andy speaks often of that day to ensure that no one ever forgets the horrific events that claimed the lives of many and that the lives that were lost are continually honored for the rest of time.

I'm a 67 year old, female U.S. Navy Cold War veteran. I have PTSD/MST (military sexual trauma). I am a Native New Yorker but I live in Northern Virginia about 5 miles from The Pentagon. I have many issues with being around strangers, particularly males, any where. I'm hyper vigilant and always on guard. Listening to you Andy, helped me a great deal, in particular, your approach to your spirituality. I too was raised a Roman Catholic and I do not care for any type of organized religion. I believe my spirituality, is my own, you helped me feel more comfortable, with my beliefs, thank you. You also made me think about how I react, to the world, outside my safe home. I will wave, the next time, someone gives me the finger on I-95:) I have listened and watched many, many, entirely too many 9/11 and Post 9/11 videos and podcasts and this one, you Andy touched me, where others just made me cry and be more depressed. I Thank You, for helping me, think about changing my approach to the outside world.

If others would feel this way, the world would be a much better place. You have been an inspiration to me, and I pray that others are inspired to do better as well.

Long time Stumph follower, 36 year Florida FF. Great/tough episode. Oversaw the medic training across the bay, was fortunate to find creative ways to write so those army medics kept coming back. Great way to spread HIS message. Be safe!

He is definitely a hero to the family of that man he pulled out from the rubble. Even though he couldn’t save his life, it’s a huge gift to the family to be able to have his remains returned to them.

Sounds like the proper way to handle grief is to compartmentalize it

Hell is real. God didn't do this. Satan did this but it only brought God closer to His creation. That's how stupid satan is I hate that stigma of men not crying
