I cant wait to see Sho Nuff just doing shake downs at super low boost. I think its awesome to show people how little power it actually takes to go really fast with a purpose built chassis. Hopefully Brent will share that part of it.

Herman here from Cherry Turbos. You are absolutely correct about the flange. Two things occur in that drain. Oil departing via the force of gravity and crankcase vapors and wind and heat fighting against it. The oil will become it's own cork and force oil to exit past the "seals" if there is not enough room for both the oil and crankcase pressure. I put the word seals in quotes because they aren't seals and they don't seal. Their primary function is to stop as much boost and exhaust pressure from entering the bearing housing in the turbo as possible. They are chrome steel piston ring-like baffles. I'd recommend at least .600" I.D. for the drain at all points between the flange on the turbo and the oil pan.

Looks like that turbo could even do with a -12 fitting! From what I've seen and heard from a ton of turbo experts, most of the time a turbo smoking is from insufficient drain. Especially on brand new turbos. Shon'Nuff it's gonna be beastly!

Great progress all around! Those older lathes are hard to beat and will last multiple lifetimes, killer that you got to put it to good use on ShoNuff!

I’m glad you guys are finally finishing Brent’s car. I feel like his friends from the south should’ve came up and helped Brent get his car ready for sick week. He is ALWAYS the first one on the floor helping everyone else fix their cars. Changing Clutches threw the night… his original goal was sick week. Would’ve been nice if The Bearded Cry baby sent Brent some help. Brent was there for weeks building the smart car.

You can pull the cage apart on that turbo and port the drain from the inside so the oil has a nice smooth transition 👍👍👍👍

With those cheap drain flanges I tend to run a 5/8 reamer through them which helps. Porting it afterwards helps further.

Am I the only one who saw the miata "roll bar", and thought the owner of that car is driving a mouse trap? I'm glad the PFI team were being safe with the build. Definitely wise. If you are the owner of this car. I'm not casting shade really. But, you absolutely should upgrade your roll bar please. At least put rear support bars in. Nobody should get hurt because they thought they were safer than they really are.
