I clicked on this video with the intention of skimming through it super quick just to see what the keyboard looked like in action, but I ended up watching the whole thing. I was pretty engaged by the way you broke everything down and took us through every step of the process; from looking up the product, doing a bit of research, to the buying and eventually testing of it. Great video and you're very well spoken.

You can always get rechargeable batteries for something like this. Two in the keyboard, two in the charger. And when the time comes, just swap 'em...

Interesting. But… for me there is only ONE computer keyboard, that rules them all from a great height - IBM Keyboard Model M 1391401. Comes in a blue or white sticker. Need a PS/2 to USB adaptor too. Cherry switches, like the blue, are a poor imitation once you know. Unicomp still make these, they are a new alternative. Not cheap.

You are right, my model M is from 1988. Absolutely dreamy, its my daily driver. I should add that the identical buckling spring switches also appeared on a variety of IBM typewriters like the 2500 series wheelriters, so it really is a typewriter keyboard!

Agreed. I have the Unicomp Mini M, it's my daily driver at work. Nothing comes close to buckling springs!

That advertisement is funny. Vintage "feel" when they're probably using blue switch clones. Anyway, wonderful video as always

awesome. So I love the Qwerkywriter mechanical for myself but what is a good compromise in price vs performance for someone who loves vintage typewriters and learning to type / write. She absolutely loves typing my gaming keyboard to compare. Ducky One 2 Mini w/ MX Brown . So many knock off's out there.

When you got into the comparison beyween the Yunzii and the qwerty, I sometimes had difficulty following which keyboard you were talking about. It is great that you did this review. Thanks! Daniel

I don't think I would get this one. But I am still on the hunt for a typewriter keyboard so if you have any other keyboards to try out I would love to see them.

Great review! Just curious, and while in the headspace of typewriter-simulating tech, have you found any typewriter simulators that are worth a damn? Meaning programs that allow for the freewriting experience (no backspacing) with an option to save your work? I've found one called "Winston," but it's no longer supported by the Mac app store or available online. Maybe looking for "the best of both worlds" is just me asking for disappointment. 😄

I do have a video on this! It's a little older, but I tried a few- kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rtiJqbF03bjNYY0.html I think the most accurate of them to a typewriter experience was Overtype

They actually have 3 versions now… the 3rd one is the same as this one, except it’s much longer cause it has a Number keypad at the side 😃😃

I'm looking to get this keyboard but I am used to AZERTY keyboards, Is there a way to exchange the keycaps on this keyboard?

That wouldn't alter how the board is programmed to type. There are makers of AZERTY boards! Qwertywriter is one

Have you by any chance tried copy-pasting using the keyboard? The CTRL + V shortcut doesn’t seem to work. Perhaps you’ve figured out another keyboard shortcut?

Awesome video. One question, though. The pairing instructions say you should always use channel 1 (Fn+1) when pairing with a laptop. What if I want to constantly switch between two laptops? I'd always have to re-pair with the one currently in use? That's insane! :D
@JustMyTypewriter
@JustMyTypewriter 4 ай бұрын
I believe you can pair with a second channel by connecting through function 2

@@JustMyTypewriter Yeah, thanks. It did work actually, but the manufacturer statement that you MUST use FN+1 when pairing with a laptop or PC got me confused. I guess the case is "A korean a bit lost in translation" here :D

Enjoyable and interesting, Sarah. I would never use the Amazon open box option after they sent me a fresh pasta processor that arrived in bits with assembly instructions in Italian! No quibble refund. Have you ever made a video regarding different keyboard layouts and becoming accustomed to them … ie, QWERTZ or AZERTY or even, dare I say it, DVORAK? I have typewriters which even though they are QWERTY have other anomalies such as numerals on Shift and ‘m’ on third instead of bottom row.

I bought one of these a few weeks ago and I think it's going back. I just tried it for the second or third time and it wouldn't do anything, wouldn't connect to my table, tried re-connecting it and it flashed, but didn't connect. :(

On the subject of the "European aesthetic" typewriters to me feel very old Europe, as much as ink and quill, stick candles and leather books ^_^ It feels easy for me to forget typewriters were in common usage up until the 1980s I think the big point that makes them feel European is that they were mostly designed for Latin character, and as far as I know, there weren't typewriters in any Indian languages, or Chinese, or Korean etc. Chinese and Japanese I know continued using printing presses
@JustMyTypewriter
@JustMyTypewriter Жыл бұрын
There are typewriters actually made for the Chinese symbol system! They don't look like a traditional typewriter, but they do exist!

@@JustMyTypewriter I didn't know! I guess since they were so different, these Latin letter typewriter gained a European feel. That's really interesting!

My keyboard will not convert to Korean letters. I have no problems pairing the keyboard to my laptop. I have tried everything to get it to work. It allowed me to switch to Korean letters when I first purchased it then it just stopped. I am lost.
