Hi Mark, I've watched the follow up as well where you build your additional stop as suggested by your friend at Knox Engineering - I subd there. Very neat bit of kit. Easy to add other 'stops' to it as well. What is really good about this kit of course is that it leaves the table surface free. BobUK.

To a very small degree I have done this from time to time. The links are sometimes under the videos. I did this with the mill fix, belt grinder and the square column drill press. The CAD drawings are a lot of work. I have thought about putting them on a web store and use a shareware type model. Free to download and tip me for my efforts if you like the drawings.

This is a cool design, I've seen a variety of them over the years but yours allows a thin part to be stopped. Still haven't made one for myself, not sure what style I'm going for yet.
@WinkysWorkshop

The only negative I've seen to far is that it is slightly higher than the vise jaw. You might get away with using 3/8" x 3/4" stock but I was worried it might warp when clamped to the vise. I love the square end of the wider stop and I have already used it a bunch.

I love my mill now that I addressed the round column issue, a misaligned lead screw and a quill lock that would not hold. With a lathe, mill, welder and grinder you and do amazing things.

@@WinkysWorkshop In grade school shop the first time I made a screw driver on the lathe I knew I wanted to be a machinist. I have access to a small belt drive lathe made in the 50's but as for a mill all I have is a large bench top drill press with a cross slide vise with adjustable gibs. Not all that accurate but gets me by for most things.

Great idea, great design, quick to install. However the amount of work, the number of parts needed makes me satisfied with the primitive alternatives I've got. But, in the need of a project, it's well worth going for. My Toolmakers vise has M5 screw holes that gives opportunitets for vise stops.
@WinkysWorkshop
@WinkysWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
You are correct... there are ways around making the stop. Even something that locked into a t slot would work great.

Great design! Mine is a slotted vertical, base bolted to table. Threaded rod with 2 nuts to set stop. Yours allows thinner work inside the vise. Better! Could you have made the bar longer to extend both ways from the vise and just leave it mounted all the time? Nice job!

Yeah... the longer bar would work for sure. Good thinking.

Thank you for another helpful video. I have been going over designs for a stop myself. I like this one. Question: would it have been beneficial to make the sliding plate spaced away from the fixed jaw the thickness of a standard parallel? Then the stop could be used when work is resting on parallel. I really enjoy your videos and ingenuity. Regards from PA.

Yes, absolutely I made another stop like this in a second video The advantage of this one is the square end but you can use whatever stop you need.
