The only German Shepherds who are scary are the ones who are not trained correctly or have not socialized enough. Some people just don’t know how to handle German Shepherds. ❤️

Well. I mean. I still wouldn't go onto their property unless invited. But properly socialised and trained GSDs can usually be safely introduced to new people.

I love German shepherds, especially my own but am cautious around others until we get 2 know each other.A well behaved,smart dog 2 have as a guard dog 🐕 and pet.

Chihuahuas are way more aggressive than pitbulls, shephards, dobermans and Rottweilers combined! I totally agree with no bad dogs, just bad owners. Usually the bad owners also have bad kids. Just my observation

My GS had a gentle disposition to everyone but could intuitively sense a potentially dangerous person. He would always position himself between me and someone he didn't recognize. He thought joggers were a game to chase, fun for him terrifying for the jogger. When in public always on a leash he stayed close and never taut the leash. Wonderful dog, 45 years later I still miss him. RIP Sinbad. Due to job constraints could not get another to properly care for. Soon to retire and will definitely get another GSD.

My 2nd GSD, Cher, who was a rescue, loved both dogs & people but also knew when to defend me. I was on a "last out" at 23.45, on crutches post a knee op & spotted a man sat across the road. I knew instinctively that he was going to follow me. Out of the 3 choices I had I took the only 1 where I was out of sight of him, which was a route heading for open country before an entry back to my home, & legged it as best as I could, I was right, he must have run after me but when he was only a few feet away I shouted "what do you want", he started to make excuses but Cher was having none of it and went for him!! He very quickly decided to leave rapidly!! I mean what sort of man follows a woman on crutches late at night into a field?!!!! The amazing thing is I'd only rescued Cher 2 weeks before but she knew I was in danger and automatically dealt with the problem. It was the only time I ever saw her behave like that in the 8 years that I had the honour of her company. Lost her at the grand age of 15, still miss her loads. I could well have owed her my life......

My GSD is a rescue who was badly abused. As my service dog he is now the sweetest, most friendly dog. Super popular wherever i go, i must factor in an extra hour when i go shopping for all the people who want to say hello & often reminisce about childhood GSD's.

So he is a support dog not a true service dog correct ? True service dogs do Not interact with the public . They are working when they are out and have their vest on . Do not confuse service dog with support dogs . They are completely different . A support dog is more casual , a service dog is not at all .

Dear Gerd, he is a true assistance dog - he is trained to detect the chemical change before I go into spinal spasm & warn me - can be very dangerous for me, trained to bring phone etc. I agree that the rule generally is no interaction but most people who have a guide or assistance dog do not have a dog training background - I do since the 1970's. He visits children in hospital & I also use him to educate people on a. safe interactions with dogs b. as a disability educator the guidelines on dealing with guide & assistance dogs among other disability & access issues. In fact as soon as I stop moving he drops right down next to me as trained. Being chill & affable is very important so that he never stresses out in new surroundings, crowded spaces etc. May I suggest Gerd that you made rather egregious assumptions.

it's all about socializing. Take him everywhere and he won't have a mean bone in his body. My GSD didn't.

I survived a 120 lb male GS, big teddy boy, miss him. 7 months rescued a 2 yo female GS. She does let me know if strangers come on my property. Otherwise a sweet affectionate girl, loyal. Great manners at home and out and about. Love them

If a Newbie to the GSD breed start with a Female as the first is just a suggestion. I have had 5 all females easier to introduce into the family unit. ALL will be protective to the Family unit males not so tolerant of mistakes. Females seem to IMO fit in better a male wants to be "In Charge",....so to speak.

In six years of volunteering at a shelter, and fifteen working at a clinic visited regularly by therapy dogs, I have NEVER met a scary German Shepherd.

I have owned five. each has been a joy to own. People have no idea. but I tell people they are not a starter dogs, especially when they are smarter then you. My life is better for having such wonderful animals in my life.

My German Shepherd is like Zeus. He will not even attack a fly. Still everyone is afraid of him and passers by frequently ask to get him out of the way. It is annoying

My Last Princess had a Job, meet the school bus, when my Daughter moved up to Hight school Her job was to meet the school bus the Parents were more afraid than then Kids Mom/Dad that is Princess......She Guards us....

My family LOVES German Shepherds, they're our favourite breed. Well...everyone except my older brother. He got bit on the butt as a child by a GSD and he's terrified of any dog ever since, even cute little fluffy mops. We put that down to trauma etc rather than the specific breed of dog.

They are NOT an aggressive breed at all! My brothers two gsds are the most loveable loyal and protective cuddle bugs I’ve ever met. Of course they prefer to stay near me over my brother when I’m around lol but loyal and loveable to a fault.

You have an American Shepherd. Not a GSD. A real GSD will never exceed 85lbs for a male.

My boy is a big sweetheart and I have mixed feelings about the reactions to him. Most people love him but there are some who freak out and run away. The people who love him have taste because he is obviously beautiful and the people who are scared of him are...not my problem!

I had a shepherd and she was beautiful! She was highly protective even though she had never been trained to protect . It just comes natural for them. She was never aggressive she would just stand in front of me looking intimidating when she thought there was a threat to me. I had her for 15 yrs and she went over the rainbow bridge.

We had a Shepherd. When we were away he was confined to the basement. One day we were gone longer than normal. He opened the door to the garage, which opened in and was on a closer. He then started to disassemble the garage door. He had the locking rods off in an attempt to get out and do his business. He didn't make it, but he made a valiant attempt. Can't be mad about that.

I was working in a house one time. Customer not home. Key under mat and work order said dog is friendly. When I get to the front door standing just inside is an epic German shepherd. Huge. I was like oh man. Dunno bout this. Got the key out from under the mat and opened the door slightly and he had gone and gotten one of those ball rope things. I was like, yeah he’s good lol.

I miss my German Shepherd. She was so loving and gentle with everyone, especially kids. She loved going places and getting pets. Had a Rott like that as well.

It depends all the dogs purpose in life. If he is a working dog, he can be very aggressive. If he’s a pet, he can be very loving and fun! You can make almost any dog mean. You can make almost any dog loving.

I love them! When I was an infant, my parents had a German Shepherd and a Dachshund together and they both loved and guarded my sister and I. Not intimidating.

Most of the guys I work with own them. They are always friendly, and I play with them whenever they are brought in to work. The standing joke is that they recognize a fellow German, lol.

I had a German Shepherd and he was wonderful! He loved kids. They would jump on him, occasionally even step on him by mistake and he never even growled. Smarter than hell also. Learned to open and close doors by himself! Loved our cats too. The cats never learned to be afraid of dogs and would often back large dogs up if they came into the yard.

Both are beautiful sweet babies 😍… I happened to see a pinch/choke collar underneath his leader.😮😢… something I truly find heartbreaking because of the fact they can cause pain and have been linked to fearful anxiety and mental issues, I understand the breed very well and was blessed with such amazing love they share with their family, my Nanook was extremely intelligent as well as stubborn but never out of control or anything that would require her being “painfully corrected” by the use of those “reminders of whom is controlling”. Obviously you love these babies and they are very very special !

Socializing German Shepherds is an absolute must. My Ruger dog LOVES everyone if you are capable or he thinks you are capable of throwing a ball for him, especially children.

I was scared because of the public opinion and image but few years my friend introduced to his German shepherd and she was so lovely and playful Been in love with German shepherds since then So beautiful they are and so playful and loyal

Best breed ever. I am so fascinated with this breed. I must admit I am a bit of a loner so my girl has picked up on that and is very gaurded and leery of just about every one. I should have made the effort to socialize her better, if only for her benefit.

Yes, my third Rescue "Bear" was so "dangerous", he would lay on his belly to play with the mini dachshund from next door! They were best buddies! When the neighbors moved, he whined for days missing his little friend.

We have had several dogs over the years, including part-pitbull/part-dalmatian, collies, chows, poodles, and more. Our big German Shepherd was the calmest and kindest of them all. He was a big love bug.
