A different video this week and one I dithered over whether I should share such a personal matter. But as you'll see, I have an opportunity to raise awareness of a serious issue as a result of what's happening to me and I feel a sense of obligation to do so.

Hi Matt - I am 52 (and also a Man of Kent!). I was diagnosed with blood cancer nearly 8 years ago. Has spurred me on to do a lot more travel and I have benefited greatly from your KZfaq channel - thank you for your wisdom! Once I was over the hump of diagnosis, things started to gradually improve and my cancer and I now happily co-habit. I wish you very well indeed and hope to bump into you one day in the lounge (the airport lounge that is - in case you’re worried I’m going to turn up in your house…)

Congratulations on your early diagnosis. I've been on active surveillance for ten years. I'm 66 now and don't even think about it anymore.

Thanks - that's good to hear actually.... It sounds bonkers to "do nothing" for 10 years but there's a reason why you're doing nothing, plus the monitoring actions are not exactly passive!

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis Matt, but full props for using it as a positive message for seeking help! My Dad was diagnosed just before Christmas, still contained but quite advanced so he's having his prostate removed. Like I keep reminding him, prognosis for prostate cancer is one of the best, so I hope it doesn't cause too much difficulty for you, even if it's horrible to know you have the 'big C'!

Thanks. Taking it out seems to be the first option considered these days. They seem able to retain a lot of the nerves surrounding the organ these days which is really helpful for a strong recovery. Good luck to your Dad.

I was congratulated by a friend in 2006 for getting the best cancer: prostate cancer. He meant it was the easiest to treat and he was right. I am cancer free now since 2007. My best wishes to you for a successful outcome mate. I think you will do fine.

Thanks so much. I didn't include it in this video but I'm Gleason 3+4 so not the very best possible (which I believe would be 3+3) but its pretty close!

Thanks for sharing this, Matt - I’m glad you took the plunge and caught it early. I hope it will stay dormant for many years. We have a friend in the same position as you, recently diagnosed and starting active surveillance. It’s been a stressful time for him too. Always get a second opinion and diagnosis. I recently got diagnosed with skin cancer and was given the option of two radical procedures. Instead I managed to get some ointment on prescription after really having to push my GP and it's resolved the issue.
