Great video … Like everyone says … beautiful countryside! We are so spoiled with the roads and bike paths we have in America. Not just the road conditions, but the width of roadside bike lanes and the majority of bike paths.

Overly generalized. I see few actual bike paths. No actual marked bike paths. No protected bike lanes. Recreational ones at best. Widths Ok when they exist. For cycling I think it's probably way better over there in England. Heck you can't even ride a road (highway) between cities here. Too dangerous.

@@derekjolly3680 I have to agree with you on this. I'm curious where sanoroo lives, because here in Boise it's pretty much how you've described it. We have one "bike path" and that's a shared greenbelt path along the river. And any time after about 9am it's packed with more pedestrians than cyclists. Then we have all the miles of singletrack in the hills, but everything else is roads. When I watch these UK cycling videos on YT, I am constantly tempted to relocate there just for the riding.

Welcome to my locality. I was in Knighton yesterday. I live about 8 miles north of Clun and in Powys. There are some cracking hills between Clun and Knighton on the 488, but I don't blame you for taking the easier route. It's lovely scenery to cycle round, and we're so lucky to live here. Hope you enjoyed your stay. If you come back anytime soon, drop me a pm through strava, and we'll have a ride out.

Quite the change in road surfaces at the border! If I miss 5 days, I can definitely feel it in my chest. Feels like my heart is working too hard and too loud. Hope you enjoyed your stay and new place to cycle. I lived on an escarpment. If you wanted to go anywhere you have to go downhill and keep in mind you’d have a long climb at end of the ride. Put a damper on riding at times.

Leonard, thank you for the nice video. I visited that area a few years back so it helped me reminisce a bit. Just one small point of clarification, when quoting the amount of climb, it may be useful to distinguish between vertical ascent and the distance traveled. This will make it easier to visualise what you're going through. Once again, thanks.

Nice I like border crossings, especially if they are reduced to just signs like between England and Wales. Some of my typical trips from home are involving Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands and during the larger summer trips I like to go to the Alps. I always enjoy to see what kind of use they make out of the old border and toll buildings that are often build directly on the border. I've seen kinder-gardens, restaurants, a smuggling-museum and family housing at borders where I had to stop and show my passport in the past.

As a matter of interest, what is your personal safety cut off point for high winds, Lenny? Never minding the irritation factor of it that is. I try to factor in gusts too and have some data on that if I can. I also factor in hills for down hills and the naturally higher speeds there. We have hills all over the place here, but one can route around them mostly. Today for instance we have Fresh wind speeds and gusts to 40 MPH. I'm very disinclined to ride today therefore, even with an e-bike handy.
@jollygoodvelo

@@jollygoodveloFor some reason I've been much more keen in the last year at having more to go on with the forecasts. Not just how does it look outside or how does it feel. Clunton and Clunbury, Clungunford and Clun, Are the quietest places Under the sun. In valleys of springs of rivers, By Ony and Teme and Clun, The country for easy livers, The quietest under the sun, We still had sorrows to lighten, One could not be always glad, And lads knew trouble at Knighton When I was a Knighton lad. By bridges that Thames runs under, In London, the town built ill, 'Tis sure small matter for wonder If sorrow is with one still. And if as a lad grows older The troubles he bears are more, He carries his griefs on a shoulder That handselled them long before. Where shall one halt to deliver This luggage I'd lief set down? Not Thames, not Teme is the river, Nor London nor Knighton the town: 'Tis a long way further than Knighton, A quieter place than Clun, Where doomsday may thunder and lighten And little 'twill matter to one. Lenny: Did you say "80 mile-an-hour" winds or "18 mile-an-hour" winds? One, not in metric as is your wont. and two, did you actually mean that high or just 18MPH? We've had borderline literally unsafe winds the last two days. Saturday on the road bike and today on the e-bike. Both days around 17-18 MPH with gusts much heavier. Had to kind of crab into the wind lots of the time, and hunker down on the low part of the bars much more than usual. Good rides for me when I'm obstinate and feeling like a nut. Much easier for me now than before last winter. That's definite. I'm much leaner than last summer.

Makes me laugh. "Creating routes" with this and that computerized bollocks. As opposed to figuring things out in the normal way by the seat of your pants? Like you ride up this road in a direction, and remember names mostly, and then go the other way, to go back to the town or the area you know better. They have lots of signs there. I know that. @derekjolly3680
@derekjolly3680 2 ай бұрын
@@jollygoodvelo I explained about that though. I'm not a cavemen either. I'm also not entirely a Luddite. I just feel that one, people have become obsessed with adding layers and layers of electronic or computerized crap to everything they do, and to nearly every thought they have, to the point that they can't function or think for themselves or even act remotely normal without it. Which is queer in part because it all tends to make people rather abnormal. It becomes a neurosis of a sort. Even someone who's a semi-tech junkie can notice the effects in others. Secondly as I certainly said before about my perspective with cycling, I see it (tech obsession) as violating the spirt of cycling whereby you ordinarily are breaking away from the trappings of confinement and modern habits, and the same four walls, to be out in the country as it were, to get fresh air, to clear your head, to get your exercise in, to view the world more normally, to put yourself back into some kind of a traditional healthy activity, etc. Why compromise that? I see people every dammed day who can't even walk their dogs for 15 minutes without staring at their ruddy cell phones constantly like pods! That's not anyway I want to live or approach life. I think also that people do not know how to draw a line and say, "This is as far as it goes." With me I can leave the stuff, or switch it off. I've even pulled back on some things, like cordless phones. I hated the mousy rings. I only have traditional corded phones now. So, that's how I feel, Lenny.

@@hamsterecology People can be thick, and also compulsive. Sometimes you have to pile it on to make a point, besides having to put it into context. Explaining a perspective is not being a loony. Insulting someone along those lines is pretty weak actually. Disagreeing, or simply not liking seeing something said, then calling them crazy for it. Poor tactics, yet common. Common in political discussions.
