Florida’s 1920s tourist destination is today’s destination for antique and vintage lovers! St. Petersburg’s annual Sunshine City Antique Show boasts such fun, fine and fabulous antique and vintage variety that we came back with this bonus episode to show more!
From Lucite to jewels, toys to tribes, take a spin with me through the grand 1926 Coliseum Ballroom, where Frank Sinatra and Count Basie once performed and Tampa Bay’s premier antique show now takes residence. This episode highlights specialty dealers from New York, New England, Canada, Michigan and the West Coast (that’s me!).
They show us real depth in collecting categories…great selections of true antique and vintage dolls, Steiff plush toys and Tonka Trucks are fun for nostalgia trippers. Bohemian handwork reveals its art deco loveliness, in forms ranging from basket lamps and vases to jewelry and tableware. Estate and costume jewelry from the last two centuries and the best Lucite purse collection I’ve experienced make this an eye popping episode.
What does a Burmese silver bowl featured by Sotheby’s have in common with a Seminole jacket (and a groovy plaid shirt)? Ponder that along with the mysteries posed by Big Little Books, and the unexpected appearance of Ronald Reagan at the show.
I hope my review of Sunshine City Antique Show and this truly special events center helps you learn more about antique and vintage items, St. Pete’s historic attractions, and the fun of attending a good antique show!
I’m excited to share my real world vintage encounters with the online community. I love sharing our passion and hope we will all help each other with our antique education.
Here’s some more of what I find:
Farm primitive pump, vintage store displays, Mexican vintage casual furniture, Native American basketry and stone tools, Snowbabies, vintage Santas, vintage Christmas, vintage dexterity puzzles, naughties nudies and bathing beauties, Vaseline glass, Chinese antiques, cameo glass, Peter Max Kentucky Derby print, Sydenstricker Glass, French art glass, American art glass, antique quilt, antique ewers, Pietra Dura

That makes me happy to hear! Older dealers insist that young people don't like this stuff, but that's just because they may not appreciate the same vintage things. I have lots of younger customers too!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE St.Pete!! We used to go there every year as kids on vacation. I remember going to Tarpon Springs, and seeing the Wiki Watchie Mermaids lol. Actually, I've been just about everywhere in Florida. In fact, I am planning a trip to Key West in february, so my fiance can see what real humidity is!! I think everyone should visit florida at least once in their life. I collect all things florida, and can't bring myself to sell any of it.....the main pitfall of many a dealer lol.

I'm sort of intimidated by antiques not knowing if something is just over priced or truly rare and worth the cost. You are very informative and making me want to explore my local antique stores to see if I can find a good deal! Thanks.

You can! My advice is start with what you like and just focus on a category or two. You’ll be surprised how fast your eye will train to pick out those things in a crowd. Then you’ll learn that area of collecting and spot the bargains

Mandy, George is a wonderful source for value. The more you watch, the more you’ll learn whether you’re being “taken” by the cost of something. There are some resellers who grossly overprice their finds. Not so with George. He’s honest and safe. 🤗

Love the plastic purses! The Chanel cuff are great too. So much fun. I was told by a local dealer, only toys from his era are saleable. I would rather have old and interesting items. How many toys do you need? I would rather own a piece of pottery worth less, but was used by a group of people or a family. You can hear the plate say l was Sally's favorite plate, and l was used everyday. You can buy what you like but l like homewares. It reminds me of my youth. Thanks George.🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺💜💜💜💜🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺💜💜💜💜🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺💜💜💜💜🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺💜💜💜💜🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺💜💜💜💜🌺

What a great video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. I have a clear evening bag of moms from the 50s, but I don’t think it’s real lucite. It is great to know that some Millennials appreciate antiques. My kids seem to have a less is more mentality.

I’m glad to have you join us! Even the non lucite bags from the 50s have some fun designs. Kids all think less is more when they’re young but they’ll settle down someday and appreciate things differently, I’d suggest getting the old stuff out and using it when they’re around so it starts to relate to their experiences with the family

Enjoyed your video. I would appreciate if you could tell us more of the prices in the future as I am just so interested. Love to hear the history on the antiques. I am new to all this which can be overwhelming but like anything I am trying to narrow down my main areas of interest. Jewelry & clothes are out. I like pottery but can't seem to find that anymore in thrift stores. They are probably all on that online Goodwill site which I think is a crime for what they REALLY do. for the disabled. Still trying to figure out other areas I want to focus on. You seem to know about EVERYTHING! Did you start just learning in just one area? I would love to travel all over the country like you do and see so much. Envious! Thank you!

Hi! It will take a few videos because I wasn’t concentrating on prices before but I’ll try to include some more of that info. I admit that I want people to appreciate and love the collections first and then talk price, you can buy and sell anything but this stuff is special beyond just making the deal.

My suggestion for your knowledge and collecting is start with what you like and what catches your eye-a style, an era, a color, something that makes you nostalgic or brings happy memories-and then you’ll be amazed how your eyes will soon train to pick those items out in a crowded antique booth or thrift store
