Alice, Greg and Allison Wolfe visit the famous Casa Azul, Frida Kahlo's home and now the Museo Frida Kahlo in the Coyoacán neighborhood of Mexico City.
La Casa Azul is the intimate universe of Frida Kahlo. In this beautiful residence, the artist lived most of her life; initially with her family and years later, with Diego Rivera. Likewise, interesting Mexican and foreign visitors stayed in this place, attracted by the captivating couple of artists.
Frida wanted to leave her home as a museum, to be enjoyed by her beloved Mexico. For this reason, after her death, Diego organized the Frida Kahlo Museum. The Museum’s administration was entrusted to the Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo Museum Trust at the Bank of Mexico, established by Rivera himself in 1957.
Since the Museum’s inauguration in July 1958, the Blue House exhibits the ambience that inspired Frida, as well as her personal belongings. Along with paintings by Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, also displayed are folk art pieces, pre-Columbian sculptures, photographs, documents, books and furniture. A relatively new addition is the the exhibition of Frida’s dresses and personal effects.

Feet, what do I need you for when I have wings to fly?" Frida Kahlo lost her leg to gangrene in 1953 after suffering for years from complications related to a horrible accident she experienced when she was just 18, but the artist's spirit was greater than any physical body could ever contain.

Diego ordered that the room not be opened until 50 years after his death. Not 15!

www.getty.edu/news/what-frida-kahlo-kept-in-her-bathroom/ The staff left the bathroom unopened for longer than Diego instructed out of an abundance of caution and respect for family members.

Wonderful, Kahlo's father was a German Jew was he not? I wonder if that part of her heritage had an influence on her?

Yes, he was. Certainly that must have affected her worldview as did her relatively privileged upbringing, but she never lost sight of the plight of the indigenous people of Mexico and the struggles of the working class.
