I live an hour away from this mall. A lot has changed in the last 3 years. Some stores are still there or moved, but some of the new stores do help give us something new to shop around and look at too. And with the Dave and Busters that’s open up on the top floor of the old Sears store, it really helped brought something fun again inside the mall. Like I was a preteen again when there used to be arcades in malls like I remembered. I come here almost every weekend off, and still feels like this mall will be standing with how much it still has compared to the ones left around Chattanooga like the Eastridge Mall, or the Northgate Mall that are struggling to keep up. It’s still my more preferred mall’s to shop and do things at and be happy to comeback to whenever I can.

That mall was built on a farm in nothing but fields. When it opened there was nothing around it in 1987.

I'm old enough to remember when this mall came along and crushed Eastgate and Northgate malls. Once I was old enough to drive, I was at HP every weekend. So many fond memories of just idly shopping. I miss the 80's/90's mall experience so much.

I agree, it just looks “okay” but it’s a good “okay”

Its nice to see this mall at least 80+ % full and Sears very quickly redeveloped! Very nice mall but didn't see any fountains!
@daehawk95854 жыл бұрын
It had one when it opened. Was where that kid play area is. Has gold brass square columns rising up and water bubbled out of some of them. They removed it by the mid 90s. You can see it on a YT video about the malls grand opening.

Yea it’s probably going to be one of the last malls left also I do not live super far away from there

20 miles away, there’s the Bradley Square Mall which still has a fountain. The mall itself is dead, unfortunately

That's a good looking mall, you can still see the 80's origins in the shape of the ceilings and skylights. I'm not sure about carpets though, it must be high maintenance.

Great video Hank! Forever21 had shuttered several months back, whilst Dave and Buster's as well as Dick's Sporting Goods has opened and stays fairly busy. Gap had also shuttered as of this year.. I visit this mall more than I visit other malls, and today before closing the parking lot facing the food court was full. It has it's good and it's slow days, but overall it is healthy.

I worked in Hamilton Place back in the early 1990's when this place was packed and hopping.

Nice mall, I kind of wished there were some bold colors though. Maybe navy blur instead of grey. I like the mixture of tile and what looks like hardwood and carpet.
@Daehawk2 жыл бұрын
It had bright color before this stupid 'brown' remodel. It also used to have pink and blue neon lighting running along the underside of the second story in the openings.

That intro looked like an 80s action movie or 90s Square game. Super cool. The mall looks nice, and pretty well travelled with plenty of venues. One thing I noticed right off the bat is an Escape Room area. This has happened is malls around me, particularly the Galleria in Buffalo, where they have Escape Rooms and indoor go-karts and Dave & Busters. Like the mall is a place less meant to shop and more to have experiences. Is this a more widespread trend than I thought? And is this a model malls in general are trying to follow?

In general as retailers have been shedding stores, I've been noticing more malls add unusual entertainment type places into malls. For example at Hawthorn Center in Vernon Hills, that mall added a mini-ice rink and a batting cage place not too long ago. And a couple years ago, Dave and Buster's opened there. More recently(a year or 2 back?), an AMC 12 screen theater opened there.

Not only does CBL own Hamilton Place they own 6 of the 8 shopping centers in that area. Of the two they don't own, one does well the other one is a joke and in a terrible location. For years they have controlled that whole section of town and had their puppets on the Chattanooga City Council and any decision made for that area as well as anything related to shopping/strip malls was pretty much based on what CBL wanted. For instance someone wanted to put an IHOP out that way and the CBL puppets all voted against it saying it would have too much impact on traffic. This despite the fact that the road is already congested. Thankfully the voters got enough of their garbage and relieved them of their duties a few years ago. That being said CBL still has a lot of power.

The Flex Seal/Phil Swift joke made me laugh a damn lot, for whatever reason! BTW, nice tour of this mall. And I agree while it isn't the nicest ever mall design, at least it isn't as bland as a lot of recent Simon renovations. Or even worser, the typical VERY awful Hull look.

We visited a few months ago and the mall seemed to be doing pretty well. It was quite a lively place.

I love that Dave & Buster signage saying 'Coming Soon "ISH"' with a predicted opening of early 2020. Did it actually open up before "IT" happened?

Sad to hear that CBL is entering bankruptcy. They were one of the better mall developers to work with in my experience.

I agree it looked better before the renovation. They made it too dark and brown. Horrible scheme. Preferred it a brighter white. Heck I even miss the old pink and blue neon. Miss the fountain too. They replaced it in the 90s with that kids play area.

Fairly sure Parisian was Pa-ri-sian (zhun) not Pa-ri-si-an. That was a great store. Not a big fan of all those twin/split department stores at HP.

You're right on its sound. Was my wife's favorite store. At 4'8" she could walk my 6 '0" 2 0 year old legs off back in the day. Id have to sit down near the Brighton area to wait on her. HEehe
