A visit to the Hepworth Gallery at Wakefield

I picked up a leaflet when I was at 20 21 Arts Centre. It's a guide to what's going on in the art world. An exhibition at Wakefield caught my eye. Sheila Hicks is a textile artist and this looks like something I might be interested in. So glad I went. Her large scale works are amazing. Come with me and have a look.

Well that was interesting - some interesting pieces. Thanks for the tour. I'm in London and should make the most of the free galleries here but life gets in the way.

I was in London a few years ago, for the galleries. I love Saatchi and Saatchi, and the Tate Modern. I doubt I will go again. Can't stand that pace of life.

I love all kinds of fabric Ilona , some exhibits I liked , others looked like my needlework box when all the contents are tangled up 🤣one or two reminded me of the Raggy Rugs my mum used to make from cut up clothing and blankets worked through a sacking base . No bedroom was complete without a Raggy Rug beside the bed before your feet touched that oh so cold Lino 👍

There are pictures on her web site which show that people are encouraged to lie on the exhibits. It looks a lot of fun.

Not keen on the place myself. Been once when it first opened. The outer building of the Hepworth looks like a shed/prefabs from the war time. Unfortunately this is our City :( But hey, we all have different tastes :)

From the outside it looks like a big block of concrete. Not very appealing if you don't have an interest in art. There is some art which I am not keen on. I pick and choose which works I want to see.

You were literally just round the corner from where I live 😀 The chantry chapel is over the road , And Wakefield cathedral 5 minutes up into town 👍

I was hoping to see a bit more of Wakefield, but when I stepped outside the traffic put me off. I didn't have a street map so I didn't know which way to go. All those press the button crossings and wait for the little green man put me off. I gave up and drove out of the place. I am used to wandering freely, don't want to be told when to cross the road. Maybe I should go back and try again. 😆

Thank you. I have had three pictures in a local art gallery for the last two months. There were prizes to be won, the judging was done by two people. I didn't win, but I think my pictures were better than some of those that did win. It's all down to taste and preference
