Really enjoy this and other walks around Melbourne, especially in the CBD with lots of trams. I was wondering, when you record your voice-over, do you record it live as you walk, or later in a sort of studio at home?
@Taitset
@Taitset 11 ай бұрын
Thanks, I really enjoy making these ones! The voiceover is done later, but it's unscripted and I try to record it naturally while watching though. It's also usually a while after the actual walk so some things still take me by surprise haha.

Awesome. I've done that exact walk. Only it was 1983 when I lived down there for a few months, and the trams were mostly, if not all, W class. St. Kilda is still instantly recognisable yet now totally different.

I just watched the video in full playing in the background while I was catching up on some work. Greatly enjoyed it. I've done a similar walk around St Kilda on a very similar route to this video, but there were details of things I never actually noticed until seeing it on this video..... so looks like another visit is in order!

oh man, you walked past so many buildings and places where I used to go very often and ones that I still go to often. I remember living on Grey St, going to school at St Kilda Park Primary, walking around Acland St, chucking Coke bottles with Mentos in them at the wall on the back of that Woolies Metro with my primary school friends (shh, don't tell anyone), going to the Espy for food, buying shit from that convenience store on Fitzroy St, sitting inside a pub drinking Fanta while the 2019 Pride March was happening outside and my mum was drinking and talking with a lesbian who was also drinking, and a shit ton of other great memories that this video brought back to me. unfortunately I would've been getting ready to go to school at Elwood College when you were recording this video so there's no way we would've crossed paths haha. great video though!

G'day Martin! Finally found time to watch this walk around St.Kilda, having already watched the other clip on the various tram routes. No, I'm not stuck in the never ending loop. Yes, I'm watching on a Friday (allegedly the first day of Spring) and brrrr! it's cold outside (the sun was up earlier). Might get better later in the day. Obviously, you decided on a spot of walking exercise before work on a particularly clear Winter's morning (if it was Fri.21st July, I can relate to it as I was enjoying a cooked breakfast beside a lake in Regional Victoria). St.Kilda on a sunny morning is a fascinating subject; most of the locals probably recovering from the night before, while your intention is to clear the head for a challenging work day ahead. While your focus was on the trams and some snippets of railway/tramway history (I can just remember the VR St.Kilda-Brighton tram - was 6 years old when my parents took me to visit family friends in 'notorious' Robe Street), there were many features along your walk that could have been commented on that would be of interest to visitors and locals alike. Examples include the art-deco original resort beach houses on the Esplanade at 11.04-11.10, the St.Kilda beach baths and the Espy Hotel. However I appreciate that you may have been caught short on production/editing and release deadlines for this one as you mention in a reply to another comment so please take this as a constructive comment for future voice over editing. The big positive is that your walks and ride clips have inspired me to get out and about a bit more now the warmer weather is approaching. So thank you and hope to catch up with you around the transport enthusiast scene sometime soon. Cheers from Michael.🙂🙂🙂

Lovely calm video. Tho i feel i should mention: it didnt show up in my sub feed. I only happened to see it on the home page and when i went directly to your channel. My guess is yt decided that 2 vids from the sane channel at the sane time wasn't a good thing to show people, so hid the longer one.

I was fortunate to come and visit Melbourne from Singapore for my uni exchange programme recently and was definitely really put off by the inaccessibility of the tram stops around St Kilda Junction even as a regular commuter. I still had fun memories of walking around the beach and Fitzroy Street, catching a bus to Brighton, and taking the 96 from the old St Kilda station to the city!

I drive trams in Brisbane, up the 250 meter stretch of track at the museum. I do often dream about how things would be if they weren't all burnt in 1969. Have you traveled to many other cities in Australia? How do you think they compare transit wise?
@Taitset
@Taitset 11 ай бұрын
I've been to all the major cities except Perth so far. While everywhere has strengths and weaknesses, I think Sydney has the best system overall. Melbourne is generally very good, but could easily be a lot better. Adelaide does alright for their size. I've only been to Brisbane a handful of times- I think the rail network is great, although they really need to improve off peak frequencies. And I will definitely try to make it to the tram museum next time I'm there!
